Week of Welcome
Wus gud ASB!
Week of Welcome was during the first week of school from 8/22-8/26. We distributed goodies each day and here are the details.
Monday: Lemonade
Tuesday: Stickers + Giveaway
Wednesday: Music in the Quad
Thursday: Popcorn
Friday: Polaroids
Here are some things you might want to think about or touch upon:
Participation
Promotion
Noticibility of where things are passed out
Location of event
Prepping for food supplies in advance (lemonade and popcorn)
Potential student music request form prior to the event
Coordination of role for each day
Please let us know if you have any other suggestions for the event in general and what you would like to add or remove from the events by 9/2 (Friday)!!
Love,
Rec <33
Hey ASB Rec!
ReplyDeleteWeek of welcome was such a sweet event to welcome new students to Lynbrook and returning students back to our school! It’s been a while since we’ve had music in the quad and it reminded me of the good times at school. The vinyl stickers were cool and the popcorn smelled so good too. On the topic of participation, I noticed only 12 submissions for the vikepound giveaway :(. Since it was the first event, promotion of the event could have been improved to gauge more participants. Locating and coming to the ASB Den might have been a bit difficult for new students unfamiliar with the school, and the backdrop for the event was not in an ideal location (in front of the cafeteria would have been more noticeable). Overall, thank you guys for organizing Week of Welcome!
also bre I'm using data to publish this cuz school wifi blocks commenting on blogger for me :///

Claire
Hi Recog!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with WoW! It was such a nice way to start off the school year. I thought that all of the goodies were really good ideas and the backdrop for the polaroids was amazing as well (shouts to PR)! I felt like the way you planned out the items for each day was really smart as well, for example having popcorn on Thursday - a day where most ppl leave by lunch - took some pressure off you guys since popcorn is normally a very popular item. I think one thing that could've been improved was the promotion and overall awareness of the event, although it seems like this type of thing happens often with first events after a break. I remember on the first day when you guys set up the lemonade in the quad, no one really knew to come until the first few people lined up, and then everyone came later on. I don't know if this will fully solve the issue, but one thing y'all could do to solve this is possibly to include little parentheticals with the location of each event on your posters.
Again, great job on Week of Welcome and looking forward to what's up next!!

Hi Rec,
ReplyDeleteWeek of Welcome was really fun so thank you so much for all the work you all put into it! I think overall it was really good, especially days like Thursday where people can enjoy a bag of popcorn. Generally hosting events in the beginning is difficult because everyone is still getting situated with campus and ASB, but I think in the future it could be a little more large scale. For example, instead of doing just lemonade, you could also pass out other drinks (or maybe even sodas?), but totally understandable that it's hard to increase scale. Also, I definitely think opening a music request form would make music in the quad feel a little more personal and people will be excited about that. Other than that, great job!

Hi Rec!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your Week of Welcome! I had a great time drinking lemonade, picking out my stickers, and eating delicious popcorn. Something that Rec should consider for next year is to move into the quad or a more noticeable area for things like popcorn and stickers. A couple of freshmen were unaware that welcome week had happened, and I think part of the reason is because the den is in a less noticeable position. I think that Rec should also try to expand their promotion through morning announcements. Overall, great event and thank you Rec!

Hey rec!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing job on your Week of Welcome!! The popcorn and polaroids were such a good idea but I think that being somewhere more noticeable will definitely benefit more. I, myself, is guilty of completely forgetting about the Week of Welcome especially on days that I end school before lunch. I think advertisement for the event is definitely key, so don't be afraid to bother PR to make flyers or graphics. Overall, great event and can't wait for the more to come!

Hey Rec!
ReplyDeleteI really loved week of welcome! I think you guys did a great job and I really enjoyed participating in it! I think that the polaroids were my favorite part and I think they are a great element of Week of Welcome that you guys should keep for future years. I think that for the future you should shift the location of the table to the quad to increase visibility and increase the participation as well! I think that also some more Instagram promo in the form of posts or Instagram stories would also increase participation, especially with it being the first week of school other promo is much harder to do. Overall, amazing job!

ReplyDeleteWoW was amazing!! It was such an awesome way for us freshies to get accustomed to the high school environment, and become excited for future events! I think that doing it in the quad would be better, because people in the lunch line could see what was happening. Furthermore, if you do plan on moving to a different spot, it would be awesome if that could go up on Instagram! (for ex i had no idea where the polaroid station was so I didn't know where to go). I think the biggest hit was the popcorn, because as soon as people saw others carrying it, they immediately went to get some themselves. I especially liked the simplicity of the event, and how there was always something cool to look forward to. I would have def liked if we could have gotten some other goodie or thing other than MIQ but it was v fun regardless ;) I don't think we should further complicate events that are happening in the beginning of the school year, because we're still trying to get adjusted to things and don't really want to put much effort into things like this, so this was an awesome and great way to have fun!
Thank yall so much!! <333

Hey rec,
ReplyDeleteI want to start off by saying that Week of Welcome was a super fun yet more lowkey way to start off school, especially as a freshman! The little treats were all really nice and fun, and I personally enjoyed it. The only things I would suggest for the future is promoting the event a bit more and really getting the word out (might be a bit hard though considering it's the first event :)) along with placing the goodies station somewhere easier to find. Like on Friday for polaroids, my friends and I were looking around the area, trying to find where to take the pictures. But once we found it, the pictures turned out super cute and nice!!

Hi Rec!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for planning week of welcome! This is definitely something students enjoy and look forward to at the beginning of every school year. I especially loved the popcorn on Thursday and I thought it was really cute. I loved the variety of items you guys distributed this year. However, I think selecting one location to distribute items for every day of the week would be more helpful for students. This way, they always know where to go to find you guys instead of checking a different location each day. I really liked the lemonade, but maybe next time make more of it in advance. I remember that day was an extremely hot day and there was high demand for drinks… so like if you could refer to the weather in advance to estimate the numbers of people who would show up, it may help! Anyways, thank you for taking the time to start planning this event before the school year even started. I love you asb rec <33

HI WEC,
ReplyDeleteWoW was so good so great job with your guys' first event of the year!!! I know a lot of people already touched base with this, but the main issue I saw was the overall awareness of the event. The quad is a very busy place, and it is extremely hard to stick out unless you have something big and flashy. Using the tent and possibly other decorations could really help draw people to your stand. One instance where this worked perfectly was when we used the tent last year for the Animal Therapy Farm. I mean, it was already going to be a popular event, but the tent really drew attention to the area and made it seem like something special was going on. Overall, great job with WoW and I'm so excited for many more amazing events by the 2nd best commission (spirit #1 ofc 😈)

Hello Rec,
ReplyDeleteWeek of Welcome was really something special. It gave a very positive impression to new and old students alike, with something new and fresh each day, and was overall executed very well. The most glaring issue I could find was awareness; a large portion of people who I talked to didn't even know the event was happening at all. I believe more advertising/broadcasting on not just social media but also flyers/posters around the school and announcements would help immensely to amend that problem. Another thing to note would be location; clearly communicating is important, but another part to that is consistency, and it can quickly become confusing if there's a new location to go every day. In the future, sticking to one spot would make it much more effective. Overall, I thought it was very well done, especially during the rush of the beginning of the school year.

Hello Rec,
ReplyDeleteAmazing job with the Week Welcome. I couldn't find many problems with the current plan however there are I few things I would like to touch upon. First off would be awareness. While the current location of being in front of the Den isn't exactly the best, and yes moving the quad would definitely help with exposure, you might also want to advertise in classes or going into cooperation with teachers for the days. This will help the freshmen and other students who may not pass by the quad also have a chance at finding out about the week of welcome. Something else to help with week of welcome would be to increase the amount of things that are happening? Maybe you can put all food related items on a day or maybe all freebies on another. This will also make it so that you have to buy less of each. Another thing to touch upon would be purpose or theme? In my eyes, I feel like week of welcome is best to help integrate the freshmen and welcome back the upper-classmen. Perhaps for integrating the freshmen, you can have things related to this by either involving Link Crew or other student bodies? Regardless of all the minor issues, I think the event went really well, given that I also didn't really have time to attend most of it.

Wassup Rec!!
ReplyDeleteYa'll did an an amazing job with Week of Welcome. Here are a few of my suggestions:
1) Looking at it big picture, the Week of Welcome is directed towards welcoming students back onto campus, especially making a connection between Freshmen and ASB. Despite this, I feel like there could have been better targeting towards specifically the freshmen. This could be done through collaborating with the Lynbrook2026 Instagram account, notifying Link Crew to promote the event, etc...
2) I'm sure tons of people have mentioned this already (like TONS), but the location of the event is incredibly important to how much people have access to the event each day. Given that this event is targeted towards freshmen, there should have been a central, constant, and popular location for students to rely on everyday.
3) A far-fetched (maybe even absurd) idea- is it possible to have the ASB volunteers bring the freebies TO the students? (Instead of having the students come to ASB). Passing out freebies around campus while letting them know that this is an ASB-affiliated event will give students a good impression and easy access to the gifts. (This an include things like cardboard photo props for students, and passing out QR codes for them to download the Lynbrook app).
^^For the above keep in mind that I didn't attend several of the Week of Welcome days

HI REC!
ReplyDeleteSuch an amazing job with Week of Welcome. I like how there were a mix of foods and items throughout the week. Personally, I loved seeing people's insta stories with the week of welcome backdrop and the polaroids. This was mentioned several times above, but the location could probably be moved to the quad. If it's too hot, you guys could use one of those canopies/booths. As for promotion, maybe find some ways of creative promo that can happen daily during the event e.g. for polaroid day create a cardboard frame of a polaroid and tell people to pose with it, and then you guys can create an insta reel. (This is just a random example of having creative promo by the way). Overall though, great job and I'm looking forward to future rec events!

hi rec!
ReplyDeletecongrats on a successful week of welcome! everybody looked forward to the treats of the next day and it definitely got us all excited for a new school year. i think people especially enjoyed the lemonade since the weather was so hot so that's definitely something to keep for next year. music in the quad is also generally really enjoyed and potentially having more music in the quad days if possible would be a good idea since it elevates the general mood. overall awesome job and i can't wait to see this event again next year!

Hey Rec!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a successful week of welcome! I personally felt that the beginning of the week was amazing and created a really welcoming feeling with lemonade and all the freebies and music :) Like we talked about in class, the location of the event really mattered since I don't think many people knew where the popcorn was. One thing that we may consider doing is having morning announcements to remind people of the event going on and encourage them to come out! Something else we may consider is doing a small recap story on instagram everyday and hopefully people see it and get interested and want to come out the next day for the freebies or activity!
- Sophia :)
hi rec!
ReplyDeletethank you so much for planning week of welcome! this was such a sweet event that really starts off the year with a warm and caring environment, which is exactly what we want to convey to students. I think all of your freebie ideas were super nice, but a cool addition would be some sort of food item since people love free food. If there are healthly popsicles you guys can give out, I think it'd serve as a really nice freebie during the hot school day. I'm so sad I won't be able to see this even again next year, but I know you guys will kill it once again!
- Emma
hi rec!! great job on week of welcome <33 i think something you all can do is add another aspect to music in the quad; maybe a performance by other groups! or take suggestions from students! wednesday was a little confusing bc everyone expected a tangible object. overall great job !!
ReplyDelete- esha
Hey Rec!!
ReplyDeleteGood job on Week of Welcome. For some suggestions I think we should just always have it in the quad, its more noticeable and always give smth tangible just so its not confusing for students. If not you can do two days that are not tangible so its not weird and out of the blue to have one day thats not tangible.
