Hoco Freebies & Homecoming Art Exhibit

Hiya ASB!

We just finished hoco freebies and hoco art exhibit and we would love to hear what you all have to say about it!!

As a quick review:

- gave away free lanyards, football stress balls, glowsticks, and stickers before the hoco game

- Set up and displayed class decs during the homecoming dance

Discussion points/Things that could be improved:

- a lot of the decs requested for Hoco art exhibit were either missing or damaged beyond repair

- ran out of football stress balls and lanyards much faster than stickers

- stickers were damaged en route and were delayed

- wind constantly knocked down decs and bricks did not work effectively

- instructions on how decs should be displayed were not very clear

- how can we distribute freebies more effectively (should we directly hand them out or have people come to us)?

- was the table placement effective (between bathroom and football field entrance)?

- should the flashing LED lights underneath the hoco decs be continued for next year?

thanks!!!

- clink

great job with hoco freebies and hoco art exhibit! For the Hoco Freebies, if budget allows you can get more stressballs and lanyards while getting less stickers. Something else to consider is if you guys want the stickers to also be given, you can consider giving football+a sticker or a lanyard+a sticker so that students have to get both rather than just one. For distribution I think having the table placed in between the entrance and bathroom was super effective since you need to pass by that area to get to the bleachers. To distribute more effectively, having people come to you guys should be fine since if they want a freebie they'd probably stop by as the table was hard to miss. For the art exhibit, maybe at the start (like early school year) just giving heads a heads up and some tips. For example, having special made slots inside the planters to hold bricks seemed to work pretty well based on other classes along with using cups inside the planters to make them stronger as a whole. The led lights should definetely be kept as its hard to see the decs without the lights and the lights add on to the general visual :)

the decs were such a pretty exhibit at hoco dance and i personally noticed people pointing them out & admiring them. i think it was a great idea & i liked the LED strips!

one thing i wanted to talk about was the storage of the decs. of course i know the classroom was probably the easiest place to store them, but it made movement in the classroom virtually impossible when social was trying to gather materials to set up for homecoming dance. maybe in the future, the decs could be moved out a few hours before homecoming dance setup. and then clink can help with setup! :D or maybe they could be stored in the cafeteria or the fieldhouse. also, yes clearer instructions in the future for specific placement would make the whole process more efficient.

as for damaged decs, there isn't much clink can do about that– don't worry about it, i would say. clink still managed to put up a really pretty exhibit with the undamaged ones.

    great job!

  3. hi clink-
the hoco freebies were super fun. one thing is that instead of just passing out the glow sticks, you guys could tell students what to actually do with them. i think a lot of students didn't know they were supposed to wear them (i spotted several glow sticks in the trash can on my way out).

for the hoco decs, i know several classes used handheld decs during their gauntlet or had several smaller cardboard accessories on their planters. it'd be cool if these smaller decs were stored and used at the hoco dance photo booth. otherwise, i loved the LED strips underneath the decs!

  4. HI ALEX LI AND CLINK

I actually missed hoco freebies so I don't have much to say about that. However you guys had some very creative and fun promo strategies for the event that were featured in the promo video.

Hoco art exhibit was a really good idea and the decs and lights looked nice during the dance. Next time maybe invest in longer lights or just more lights in general. One small strip in front of each classes decs didn't seem like enough, especially after the sun set. Maybe next time just lay out christmas or fairy type lights instead of using the ones that are meant to stick to walls, since sticking the lights to the turf was a little weird. I'm honestly not really sure what to do about wind, because bricks usually work pretty well. Otherwise, good stuff on both events.

  5. hello clink!

personally i was not able to get there in time to see the hoco freebies, but i think i did see some of my friends with them so that was pretty cool.

for the hoco decs and the showcase, i agree with many that yes they looked amazing, but also did see them constantly falling down. i'm not sure how "legal" this would be but potentially finding a way to hook the decs to the ground could be a good solution, otherwise i'm not too sure. as for storing them, i feel that if teachers are willing to store a dec or two in their classroom that could be cool as it could also act as "promotion" but honestly i'm not too sure. otherwise, yall did a great job!

  6. Hi Clink,

Great job on the hoco freebies and hoco art exhibit! I loved the hoco freebies, especially the squishy football I think it is really cute. The stickers were pretty cute as well. I also think that the hoco decs showcase was really nice, because each class spends so much time on the decs and it usually is only up for one day but the hoco art exhibit is a way for us to exhibit the decs for a longer time and give people more time to take pictures with them. I think its okay that some of the decs are damaged because it's usually just how it is since the weather and handling tends to break them down a little bit, but I think the best option is just to pick the ones that still look the best. Otherwise, you all did amazing!

love love LOVED hoco freebies and decs! i think the led lights were a really cool idea and in the future, maybe more COs could be requested to help with the decs instead of just one! i like the idea of picking the best decs, and maybe nail it down in the handbook that it's important to make holes or bricks in decs ahead of time

for freebies, i was volunteering during it so i'm not too sure how it went but i think the placement is fine given we've been doing it at the bleachers for years

promo-wise, loved the skit in the lil promo video :)

    good work!

  8. Hello clink,
Amazing job wit the freebies and art exhibit. There wasn't much I thought was wrong with the freebies, but maybe it would be better to hand them out after the game, as people were throwing the footballs all over the place. That ended up being pretty wasteful and a little disruptive to the audience and game (I think the stickers were nice, I have mine on my computer right now). The art exhibit was great as well, the showcase really captured the hard work, spirit, and talent that went into hoco. I believe there could be ways to preserve them against weather better, but besides that, everything was great.

  9. hey clink!!

the variety of hoco freebies was great and the students definitely enjoyed them!! i remember last year there were some clink people handing out the freebies and people felt more inclined to take them. you could start doing this once all the more popular items are gone so all the leftover items could be put to use. i feel like lanyards are always popular so investing in more of those next year (bc ik u guys just used leftover ones this year) would def be great. the location of freebies was good but maybe you could also consider during the somewhere closer to the ticket booth.

the art exhibit was so cool and i saw lots of people taking pictures with the decs so im sure they enjoyed being able to see them. it was super windy that night so the decs getting knocked down was pretty inevitable. maybe in the future we could set size restrictions on what decs could be presented to make sure they are up the entire time. on my end, the decs seemed fine for the most part so great job on that!!

  10. Hey clink!!

Great job on hoco art exhibit + freebies! The freebies were really cute and fun. I think the location was effective because everyone passed the bathroom area at one point to get to the stands. However, for distribution you guys could pass them out at the stands if there are a lot of extras for stickers. If there aren't many extras though, I think staying near the bathroom is good enough. For the hoco art exhibit, I thought the LED lights were super creative and should definitely continue for future years. Planters being nearly dead at the end of the week is not very preventable. Maybe just pick out the best looking ones and use a lot of blue tape to make last minute fixes. Other than that, great job!!

  11. hey clink and chelsea guooo!!

hoco art exhibit was such a big hit, and i saw pictures of people posing with their class's numbers everywhere. the led lights were such a cute addition, and made the place glow!! i think planters being damaged is something out of your control, but maybe giving co's more time to fix and repair them would be better. furthermore, possibly having someone assigned to keep an eye on the decs (while still enjoying the dance) could be good, so they could do damage-control if needed. i wasn't able to be there for the hoco freebies, but the lanyards looked really lit, so probably ordering more would be smart for the future! also, having a few different designs for the stickers might make them more enticing for people. (ex: picture of viking ship/boat + one of the viking head mascot)
    overall, great job!!

loved how there was something for everyone with the hoco freebies this year! all of the items were a hit, and i know you guys had extra stickers but people seem to generally enjoy them, so i would not worry :)

one thing you guys might want to think about for future freebies is items that people can wear/display during the game. for example, the glow in the dark sticks were great at night but some other things that might showcase spirit in the stands might include: light up wands, noisemakers, etc.

    sincerely,

  13. Hey clink!! Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend the dance so I couldn’t see how the decorations looked during the dance. For setting the decs up, I think you guys should start a bit earlier than the set up of the homecoming dance, just so al the decs get out of the way for social to set up their dance. In addition to that, I think there should be clear instructions on how to set up the decs such as where it should be place, how to insert the brick inside the decs, etc. As for the freebies table, I think it was a relatively good spot to pass things out because people would have to walk through that area in order to get to the stadiums. Overall, good job on both events I really wish I was able to experience it in person.

  15. HI CLINK

First of all, great job with the freebies and art exhibit! I know many students who enjoyed it and got something from the event.

For the freebies, it would be best to bulk on the lanyards next year as high school kids love lanyards… and maybe branching out to more sticker designs as high school kids also love cute stickers. Next year, we should consider passing out the hoco freebies with the court brochures and it’ll be a nice organized place for students to grab n go.

I loved the decs at the homecoming dance the lights really tied everything together. People were taking pictures in front of their decs and it was really cute. Although the wind knocked a few decs over, the bricks that were added helped a lot with not murdering the majority of the decs. Next year, dividing the volunteers and assigning each group to a single class will make setup more efficient.

    GREAT JOB!

great job with freebies and art exhibit!! many students enjoyed the lanyards so i think you guys could definitely order more of the lanyards and cut down on the stickers if you want to keep the same budget. for giving out the freebies, i think setting up a booth next to the bathroom was a good idea since many people pass by there. for the hoco art exhibit, i thought the led lights were a super creative and cute idea. maybe next time have set up way earlier so cos have time to repair the decs and may it more presentable. overall you guys did amazing !!

  17. Hi Clink!

Thank you for putting on this event and giving more showtime to all our beautiful decs. Seeing people take pictures with our decs at the homecoming dance made me really happy. I honestly think the decs set up went very well even with only 1 or 2 COs; everything was set up on time and looked really nice. As for the confusion with the placement of decs, perhaps COs can draw a small diagram and send it to Clink before time, or Clink can ask permission to take creative liberties with it. I think most COs won't care how the decs are placed, they’re just really happy that the decs get to be seen again. Thank you again, and great job Clink!

  18. Hi Clink!

Thank you for all of your hard work! I really love this small tradition of freebees that we have every year for the football game, and I think in the coming years we can take advantage of it even more in promotions. I know that Lynbrook students really love their free things and a lot of people I knew could've gone to the football game but simply needed a reason to.

freebies were so cute this year! a lot of my friends at the game thought it was a really cute idea. i think in future years we can promote a bit more. we released a graphic but people were either determined to come or determined not to and didn't know about the freebies. those who did come really enjoyed the freebies, especially the glowsticks. i was asked by multiple people to continue glowsticks at asb events!

  20. Hey Clink!

The way that freebies at the football game was run this year was definitely a success! The location of the table made it a good spot to not block traffic, but was also visible enough to be seen by a lot of students. I think that it is good for students to come up to the table instead of you guys walking around, that way only students who want the freebies gets them, so that there could be enough for everyone who wants them! In general, the bigger, more unique, and more useful items are most desired! Great job!

  21. Hi CIink!!

The football freebies were such a nice touch and I really enjoyed the glowsticks too. Maybe in the future we can promote the freebies more so people know about it and can maybe increase attendance to the games. As for distributing freebies (this is just an idea) but what about doing tshirt launchers? not sure if that is allowed, but it could be fun!

  23. hey clink,

hoco freebies were fun and a lot of people liked it. I also appreciate hoco art exhibit giving hoco decs a another chance to be appreciated. I think something you guys can do next year is put the decs in the cafeteria where most people are so that people see them more. The decs were just out there in the quad and looked pretty spaced out. But other than that good job on your event!

  24. Hey clink!

Personally I thought the hoco freebies were amazing and fun! I was very happy getting the freebies and i know a lot of other people who loved it too! One thing I liked was the location of the freebies. It was a great spot that didnt crowd the entrance but also is able to be seen by all students and parents. I think it was perfect and would love it if you would do that same spot again next year!

  25. HI CLINK!

I really loved the freebies this year. You guys should definitely look into getting more of the lanyards because I got to the game 15 min after it officially started and all the lanyards were gone. But I LOVED the footballs, and I know a lot of my friends did as well. But there was a huge mess, so maybe potentially think about handing out distracting items like footballs at the end of the game? Anyways, super excited for your guys next event!

  26. Hello CLink,

Thanks for organizing the hoco freebies event. I have a few comments addressing the different issues mentioned in the post. First off, "a lot of the decs requested for Hoco art exhibit were either missing or damaged beyond repair". I believe that the problem with this is both miscommunication and a lack of proper storage space. You should in the future store these objects in the Field House or Gym or in the case they aren't able to placed there, have the class officers take them back and bring them back. This will also solve the issue of not knowing how to display the decs as the class officers should know how to display them. On the topic of the next issue, "ran out of football stress balls and lanyards much faster than stickers", you could discuss how popular each item will be before hand and if need be create a public poll for ASB for the general public to vote on beforehand. Also, in the case of this point, "wind constantly knocked down decs and bricks did not work effectively", you could either choose a location like the gym to display decorations or place decorations in a manner in which they can be proped against a wall or object.
