Halloween Blogger
What’s goodie ASB,
As you may know, we celebrated Halloween here at Lynbrook on 10/31. Spirit hosted Staff-Trick-Or-Treating during brunch for the student body to snack on some tasty candy (besides Twizzlers). We would love to hear any feedback you guys had on the event.
Here are some discussion points:
How was the candy distribution process (if you volunteered to help spirit distribute)?
Were there any issues with the lines for classrooms?
What is the best way to deal with extra candy? (For reference, we communicated with participating staff members the day before that if they have extra candy, they can bring it to the den for asb students to pass it out during lunch)
Should we try getting a broader selection of candy? (It was easier to buy in bulk with a certain limit on the types of candy)
As always, thank you guys for taking the time out of your day to fill out this blogger. Get ready for Fall rally!!!
Sincerely,
Satvik + Spirit
hey spirit,
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the trick-or-treat event during brunch, personally I enjoyed it and the friends that I went around with seemed to enjoy it too!! For candy distribution, everything was fairly straightforward. One thing to keep in mind for the future is planning for the teachers that don't teach/have a 4th period. I was assigned to one of them and keeping those teachers in mind and how those candies want to be distributed could be great. For the lines, I don't think there were any issues. There were some clumps in front of classrooms but that's impossible to avoid with so many students. I think that the selection/type of candy was great this year -- I know people and friends who were talking about how you guys were able to provide "actually good candy". Once again, great job!!

Hi Spirit,
ReplyDeleteThe candy distribution process went really well, however I'm not sure if the groups of teachers were intentional or not. Maybe next time you can assign certain wings to volunteers to distribute candy to, which would make the process a lot faster. I didn't notice any issues with classroom lines, and many stopped to talk to some of the teachers (which I guess did hold up lines a bit). I think your candy selection was pretty good, and honestly you could just give extras out wherever, since you are giving them out for free anyways. I'm excited for fall rally!

Hey Spirit!
ReplyDeleteHalloween trick-or-treating was incredibly fun! I enjoyed the process of running around and collecting candy and it made the whole Halloween atmosphere all the better. I think candy distribution went pretty well, with barely any hiccups. One thing that spirit could consider doing is emailing all the teachers without a 4th period beforehand to ensure that they will be in the classroom during distribution. If they can't be in their classroom, then Spirit can arrange a special time or maybe drop off candy in the morning before school. In terms of lines, I think they went by pretty fast and I didn't think there was any problem in getting enough candy. In terms of extra candy, I think that teachers could consider giving out more than just one piece towards the end of brunch if they don't think they will run out. To answer the final discussion point, I personally think the selection of candy was great! (Except for the twizzlers :))) There was a good variety of chocolate and candy, and I appreciate the "good candy" like skittles and airheads. Overall, it was a great event and super successful! Good job Spirit!

hi spirit!!
ReplyDeletei really enjoyed trick or treating at classrooms with my friends and i think the way the classrooms were spread out was perfect. as i was walking around, there was no clump of people at a certain building because all the participating teacher classrooms were pretty spread out. i also like how u guys moved this from lunch to brunch. at first i thought teachers would have a lot of extra candy/students wouldnt have that much time but it ended up being a good amount of time. i know a lot of teachers ran out of candy within the brunch period. when i was distributing candy there were 3 bags for one teacher and only 1 bag for another teacher. i know this was probably accidental but specifying that volunteers should make sure each teacher has 2 bags (or however many) before handing them out would help. i think the type of candy that was purchased was great. those variety packs have pretty much all the candy that's considered "good" and people definitely enjoyed it. its also probably easier on your guys budget to buy in bulk instead of separate packs. people will still enjoy the candy handed to them for free so having the aspect of convenience of buying in bulk for you guys is most likely best. overall, i didn't see many major problems, congrats for a successful halloween event!!

hi spirit!!
ReplyDeletegreat job on halloween, i personally had a lot of fun going around to different classrooms and trick or treating. i think there was some swarming when it came to everyone trying to get candy, so i'm not sure it was somewhat overwhelming for the teachers but i found that it's easier if there's multiple teachers passing out candy at the same place, so maybe in the future there can be like a buddy system(?) with neighboring teachers so that it's less of just one person handing out candy to a bunch of people. i also think that some teachers were actually running a bit low on candy so perhaps getting more in the future? i think a broader selection of candy would be nice, but if its more cost effective to limit the types of candy i think it's ok to keep it like how it was this year. other than that great job!! i saw a lot of people dressing up and going around and it was just a nice way for everyone to have fun!

ReplyDeletegreat great job with halloween, i had lots of fun going with my friends to classrooms to trick or treat. there was definitely some more "popular" classes that had a lot of people but it eventually all worked out. I think it's better to just buy in bulk of an assortment of candy since every student may not like the one candy that we buy lots of. overall, great event as usual and i can't wait for fall rally!

ReplyDeletegreat job with halloween trick or treating! thank you for continuing this tradition of engaging the teachers. i'm sure they enjoyed giving candy to students as well. about your question on the extra candy, i recommend taking the extras and walking around campus to hand them out. i know we did end up handing them out in front of the den but walking around makes a big difference. i had a bag of extra candy and i just gave it to random students in the quad. most of them were happy that they were offered candy! i think this also establishes a more personal connection between the student body and asb as well.
in terms of candy selection, i think the variety was great so i dont think there was an issue there. overall this was a nice & chill event and you did an amazing job!

Hey Spirit!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for making Halloween at school so much fun. As someone who is too scared to go trick-or-treating at night, having the chance to get candy at school is really nice and makes me feel super festive. I feel like the amount of candy was just right, and there wasn’t a big problem with reaching the farther classrooms, but something that might help students know where to trick-or-treat is to post maps outside each teacher’s classroom, so they can see where to go next after getting candy. Great job Spirit!

hey spirit!!!
ReplyDeletei helped with the candy distribution process, and overall it went smoothly! at first, amy and i didn't realize that each class was supposed to get two bags ๐ but once we figured that out, everything went well.
i really think people enjoyed getting candy. it definitely helped with campus morale, as i saw students grabbing their friends and running to different classes to get candy. i also think it was a good idea to distribute leftover candy in the lunch line, in case students were occupied during brunch and weren't able to go trick-or-treating.
candy selection was great. no complaints!
love, kyrsten
hi satvik n spirit!
ReplyDeletecongrats on a slay halloween event! as someone who distributed candy, i thought it was nice that they were random pairs as i got to have fun silly small asbonding talk w chelsea, and it was interesting to see that classes were doing :3 i didn't personally trick or treat so i'm not sure how lines were, but getting candy to more teachers in the future would surely ameliorate any line issues! i think a lot of people like free candy, so just getting any extra back to one place is good. speaking of the candy, it was a good selection! good work overall :)

Hey spirit!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on Halloween this year! I think it is really nice to be able to get candy at school. As for the candy distribution process, me and Stella distributed to some English teachers and every single one of them had a timed essay going on so it was a little awkward, but I think there is nothing you could do about that. Other than that, the distribution went smoothly and with minimal disruptions. I think the variety of candy was great this year, and it would be a smart financial decision to continue buying in bulk. Overall, great job!

Hellooooo spirit!
ReplyDeleteAwesome job on Halloween trick or treat this year! You guys did a really good job bringing in the halloween spirit on campus. It was also nice to hear how teachers enjoyed passing out the candy for the students. Like Alex, mentioned above there were teachers who had timed essays while we were passing out candies so I was wondering if passing it out during brunch would be more efficient? Or maybe have it sorted out by department in alphabetical order in the office, so when teachers come to work in the morning they can just pick it up? From Ms. Kirsh's perspective the extra candy doesn't seem to be much of a problem but if there is, we can ask the teachers to give it to the office and have basket of candies for students that stop by the office. Finally for candy selection, I think buying it in bulk would be the best and most cost efficient way. There was also a good range of candy from chocolate to gummies so not much to worry on that!! Once again, great job and so excited for more spirit events!!

hello spirit!!
ReplyDeletegreat job on the halloween trick or treat. from what i heard and saw from my friends, it was a BIG success. i'm not sure if theres a way to avoid this but maybe handing candy out a day before could avoid the issue of handing out the candy to the teachers without a fourth period. otherwise it sounds like candy selection was good and it went smoothly. i also think that tossing the leftover candy at lunch was smart and very fun :)... good work satvik and spirit!!!!!

Hey Spirit!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the Trick or Treating event. Like Ms Kirsh said I really liked how this event involved both students and teachers and was really fun for everyone involved. For passing out candy I think that if you guys could split up the classrooms for each volunteer a little better it would prevent people like Carrie and I from having to run across campus to deliver the candy. Also one of the teachers that we had to give candy to did not have a fourth and so we spent quite a while trying to find her but were unable to. To fix this I think it would be nice to have something on the teacher signup form that asked if they had a fourth and where they would be at the time. Anyways great job on the event and I'm excited for the next event!

Hey Spirit!
ReplyDeleteI think that this event was awesome and went great! I think that overall the lines for the classrooms were not to excessively long based on what I saw, and the process seemed to be very smooth! I think next year a neat thing would be maybe to have people record going to say at least 3 classes and record it on the Lynbrook app, and they can earn any extra candy left over from distribution. Overall, amazing job!

hi spirit! (hi graple)
ReplyDeleteawesome job on the halloween trick or treating! people were really involved in getting candy and i think this also encouraged people to dress up to school. teachers were also extremely involved, especially mr pallone! potentially consider investing in proper halloween bags for teachers to give our candy from. it may be a bit more environmentally friendly and will also be more themed. amazing work spirit!

ReplyDeleteunfortunately i wasnt at school on the day of halloween but im sure it was so much fun being able to go from classroom to classroom getting candy. i think the distribution process went really smooth, but one thing to keep in mind is not every teacher has a 4th. manit and i ran into a problem where the teacher didn't have a fourth so we werent able to give them their candy. overall though great job!! i heard a lot of people saying it was so much fun.

Hi spirit!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with Halloween trick-or-treating! I think the candy distribution process went really well, but the communication could have been clearer. We weren’t aware that each teacher got 2 bags of candy, and there was only one bag that was labeled with the wrong teacher’s name. I also really liked the variety of candy you guys had this year. I didn’t see any long lines in front of classrooms that blocked the walkways so I don’t think that was an issue. Other than that, students seemed to have a lot of fun during brunch so good job!

hi spirit!!
ReplyDeleteamazing job with halloween trick or treating! i saw so many people who dressed up and went to teachers for candy. on the discussion point about lines, there were definitely some teachers who had longer lines than others but i don't think it was that big of a problem because everyone still ended up getting their candy. on candy selection, i think buying in bulk for assortment candy is probably the best idea. its hard to make sure everyone's candy preferences are accounted for so thats the easiest way to buy + still have variety. overall such a fun event!!

HI SPIRIT!
ReplyDeleteThe Halloween trick or treating was so much fun and I heard a lot of great things about it! The candy distribution process was overall very smooth and straightforward besides a teacher's name that was accidentally labelled onto 2 bags. The extra bag was passed out to ASB members and that wrapped things up pretty well. Maybe in the future the candy can just be passed around during lunch or teachers can keep them for their students through the rest of the year. I believe we also used candy for IDC exchange welcome goodie bags, so using the extras on those instead of buying more candy might be a good use of extras as well. I personally think the candy selection was very solid and would not change it if the price works out, but an idea presented in class where a select group of classes have better/plus sized candy bars was also really good and maybe can be considered for future years! Overall I loved the event and it brought such a fun and lowkey memory to many people :)

Hey Spirit!
ReplyDeleteI really liked the brunch trick or treating this year! I think one way to reduce excess candy would be to give the teachers in more populated wings more candy, while other teachers receive less! I feel as though there is always something to do with the extra candy, like giving it to rec to use, giving it to other teachers, giving some to our Special Ed students, and much more! Candy has a long shelf life so we can always use it somewhere! I felt as though the candy assortment this year was great, and buying in bulk is cheaper! Great job :)
- Sophia :)
Hey spirit
ReplyDeleteThis event was so good; thanks for making lynbrook so fun and festive! As for the excess candy, we later distribute it to the ASB classroom, but we can save it and give it for other events (as long as it doesn't expire) PR was thinking about doing egghunts for easter, and it would be nice to have extra candy to distrubute then. Great job!
Claire
Hi Spirit!
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to halloween spirit at Lynbrook! However, I did not come to school for this day this year, so I don't personally know how it went. I did hear a lot of good things about this event, and I know that a lot of my friends had fun trick-or-treating. Keep up the good work!
-Erin :)
hi Spirit!
ReplyDeleteMe and sagar had a blast trick or treating during brunch. I think the candy selection was really solid and it was a fun experience overall. I don't really know if we have the budget, but more candy would have probably improve the experience for those who didn't start at the beginning of brunch. Other than that, I think it was a really solid event.
- Shyon
hey spirit,
ReplyDeletetrick of treating was definitely a big thing last year with people running to get candy haha and this year was no exception. the participation was insane, good job! I think you guys can consider assigning a teacher to a candy instead of evenly distributing candy so people have to run around campus looking for the teacher with he candy they like. I have no complaints about the candy choice and all the candy was very tasty ๐
-hao
hi spirit !!
ReplyDeletei thought the candy selection this year was actually really good. if you wanted to make this event more interactive, offering giant candy bars or more "luxury" candies (ferreros, etc) for people who trick or treated from each classroom (have teachers sign a stamp card, submissions to app for proof) could make the event more engaging. as for extra candy, i'm sure it will always find a home. if you want to keep it within spirit, perhaps as a prize for the volunteers for different rally games? i know teachers would definitely appreciate it as well.

Hello Spirit,
ReplyDeleteI sadly wasn't able to go trick or treating but I do have some suggestions for the for discussion points:
"What is the best way to deal with extra candy? (For reference, we communicated with participating staff members the day before that if they have extra candy, they can bring it to the den for asb students to pass it out during lunch)" - An odd suggestion would be to donate to nearby schools like miller or hyde. Another suggestion would be to hand them out at the lunch the day after or to them to teachers if there really is that many.
"Should we try getting a broader selection of candy? (It was easier to buy in bulk with a certain limit on the types of candy)" - I think it is best it the case of candy is buy in bulk of popular candies. A easy way to find popularity would be to put, for example, four options on a poll and have like 4-5 slides. Generalize categories by like chocolate bars, hard candy, etc. And just buy in bulk the top two that won.
