Vike Pound Shirts
hey asb!
before we start out, big shoutout to everyone who helped out with this massive project! quick recap of the components:
1. sales: parallel with online and in-person in at the den. online started friday before and ended monday after and in-person sales were monday-friday (9/12-9/16)
2. round 2 sales: done in an attempt to meet the quota, gained around 70 sales, same selling system as first round
3. purchasing: emailed with paul from pete's, took a while to sort everything out, but ordered vike pounds in time for thanksgiving
4. distribution: carrie, ed, and ali sorted the shirts over thanksgiving weekend, and pr set all the shirts up for a tue-fri distribution during lunch (alongside volunteers). we created an alphanumeric system so that volunteers could easily find shirts!
more deets from outro :)
questions:
1. is it worth going to freshman classes? is it worth making physical posters and flyers? did the social media promotion feel sufficient?
2. did $20 feel okay compared to last year's $15? we want to keep the price appealing but we cannot keep losing money - how do we strike that balance
3. thoughts on starting end of school/summer so that sales and promo can start ASAP, hence shirts will be distributed in time for hoco (that's how it was 19-20)
+other itching ideas/notes you'd like to put
thank you all so much again!
love,
pr
hi pr!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on finishing Vikepound sales! I think that going to freshman classes is worth it. By going to classes, you can advertise the shirts and also briefly talk about what the shirts are for -- many freshman were confused about what they were for. Making physical posters is definetely worth it too (not a lot is needed, just a way to let people know sales are going on). $20 felt just fine -- same price as our class tshirts. Starting earlier for Vikepounds is a nice idea since shirts will also come earlier and people can wear it earlier in the school year. Also, this eliminates the issue of selling at the same time as freshman class apparel (some people only choose to get one out of the vikepounds or the class merch). Anyways, super great job pr!!

helo pr,
ReplyDeletesuper super great job on vikepound sales! here's some feedback & suggestions:
1) i think having the online and in-person sales end at different times was confusing for several people, as they either didn't know that there were different deadlines / or got the deadlines mixed up
2) starting earlier in the year is fine, but i can't see why there would be an appeal to distribute shirts before hoco. (since each class has their own class colors anyway, and the juniors have probably alrdy gotten their vikepounds from past years alrdy)
3) last note- having a clearer selling & distribution process for middle college students would have been much more inclusive to those students that might not be on campus during lunch

Hello PR!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with Vikepound Sales this year! As a volunteer, it was really intriguing to see the variety of unique names people chose to put on their Vikepound. It’s such a crucial part of Lynbrook culture, and PR did amazing with it. I do believe that it is worth it to visit some freshman classes, as a lot of freshmen are unaware of the history of Vikepounds in Lynbrook, and this could greatly encourage them to buy one. I don’t think that PR needs to worry about getting the shirts before hoco, as everyone basically already has an idea of what they want to wear. Finally, 20 dollars is a good amount to charge for Vikepounds, but there has to be an adequate amount of advertising for people to want to spend that money. Overall, great job PR!

hi pr,
ReplyDeletevikepound distribution was very organized, great job with that. next year maybe think about reaching out to Mr. Bale for a video (or any other form of promotion) that explains the history of the shirt. I think going to freshman classes and explaining what a vikepound is will definitely be worth it. otherwise, promotion on instagram was very consistent and efficient. I don't you guys need to worry too much about prices, since the people who bought one last year are less likely to buy one this year, and most of the people dealing with the higher prices are freshman who didn't experience cheaper prices last year. great work!

hey pr!
ReplyDeletegreat job with vikepounds this year! the organization of the whole event was literally beautiful. i worked distribution and it was so straightforward, from the volunteer instructions to the working arrangement. here are my thoughts on your discussion questions:
1) i think social media promo was sufficient. i personally as well as my friends didn't really notice the flyers, but reaching out to freshmen was a really good idea.
2) i didn't even notice the price change so i think it was okay! $15 to $20 isn't too noticeable probably because people pay with $20 bills anyway, so that was a smart move!
3) starting sales earlier is definitely smarter so people have incentive and already built up spirit for the next year to start buying vikepounds early on. if the PR team for 23-24 is able to get situated early on, that's definitely something they should attempt doing.
amazing job with vikepounds this year pr:)

hey pr!!!
ReplyDeletegreat job with vikepound sales! i loved how organized this entire process was. as a volunteer it was really easy to find the shirts and mark it on the spreadsheet. onto the discussion points, i think going to freshmen classes is definitely worth the time. this would allow more freshmen, especially those who don't use social media that much, to know the entire point of vikepounds (what settings they are used in, etc) and all the general info about sales. as for starting vikepound sales the year before, i think it would be fine. however, vikepounds aren't really used for homecoming except for juniors + by then most sophomores and upperclassmen already have their vikepounds. overall, great job pr!!!

hi pr!!
ReplyDeletei loved the way you guys decided to do an extra round of sales, a lot more people had the chance to buy a vikepound. i think the $20 was a good amount but i wouldnt suggest going over this number. $15-20 is an acceptable amount so keeping it in this range would be ideal. i also liked ms kirsh's idea of investing in a reusable banner. it would catch peoples attention while selling and you guys also wouldnt have to make a new poster every year. selling in the upper quad also could have been helpful. i remember last year a good amount of people came up to our table and asked what it was which led them to buying a vikepound. the visibility in the upper quad helped us gain a lot of sales. im glad you guys were able to find an efficient way to distribute the shirts as that is always a struggle. great job with the event and congrats for reaching your quota!!

hi pr!!
ReplyDeletethanks for organizing vike pound sales!
a couple points:
- in terms of pricing, maybe you can offer a "discount" for asb holders or have some sort of price disparity? e.g. $15 for ASB card holders, $20 for non card holders. If we decide to do this for sure next year, we can include it in the list of perks for asb card holders when we promote asb cards as well.
- i do like the idea of starting earlier on in the school year. i wonder if we can have a table for vikepound sales during viking days? even if it's just a prelim round of sales that's more chill. i think that would garner a lot of attention because people have to pass through the fieldhouse anyways. i really hope next year can consider this!!
- in terms of promotions: i know we used vikepounds for a football game, but it would be cool if we designated a dressup day just for vikepounds. so there's one day of the week where EVERYONE, students and staff, wore vikepounds. i think that would be really cool to show school spirit can people can recognize how popular/important the shirt is. we can also take pics of people in their vikepounds and make a reel to recap that day.
overall y'all did an amazing job and thank you for moving the timeline ahead!! yall are #ontopofit!!

Hey PR!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the vikepounds! Here are my thoughts:
1. I think if you choose to go to freshman classrooms, you aim of the visit shouldn't be to give repeating info that they can find through a graphic online, because ultimately that is the best way that people will be alerted about your sales. I think it should be more tailored towards the significance of the vikepound and why they should by a vikepound along with their class merchanise. I thought what last year's PR did was super dope because they got Mistabale to explain the history behind the vikepound and that they are meant to be worn to sports games, etc.
2. $20 is fine; if you guys keep it at a negative margin more sales will lead to more money loss anyways.
3. I think there is some sense behind doing that and PR can aim to do it if they believe they can at the beginning of the school year, but I'd argue that it really isn't that important because the only day that people would wear their navy blue vikepounds is for junior day. (Unless you make vikepounds the theme for the hoco game)
Great job again!
-Jeff
Hey PR!
ReplyDeleteThis year's vikepound sales went super smoothly in my opinion! I think that for prices, it is very reasonable; it might be a change from last year so it might take time to get used to, but eventually, people will see it as the new normal. I think we could also look into discounting prices for ASB card holders while increasing prices for non ASB card holders so that there are more benefits in purchasing the ASB card. I think a great way for us to promo vikepounds could be making more student sections vikepound themed, and that way, people will feel as thought the vikepounds actually have a purpose! Overall, amazing job and I'm super impressed by the organization!
- Sophia :)
hey PR!!!
ReplyDeleteticket sales and distribution all went very smoothly. you were totally right when you said in class that vikepound this year was not the mob-raid-warzone it usually is. having online sales adjacent to in-person sales made working the table much more managable. also, having 4 people working distribution helped alleviate the amount of work each person had to do.
i think you could target the freshman even more! vikepound sales are mostly for them, so in addition to social media promo and posters, you might look into unconventional promo like having everyone in asb wear their vikepounds to school or draw pictures of vikepounds on freshman teachers' white boards.
great job PR!

hi pr,
ReplyDeletegreat job on vikepound sales and distributions!
I know in the past there have always been a lot of challenges with making vikepound distributions more organized, but I feel like you all did really well this time to make it go well. I think the idea of closing the den was also really good and should be implemented in the future.
I think to improve promotion, it'll be good to make a video for vikepound promotions that can be reused for each freshman class, or maybe just taking some footage from the PR video from a few years ago where Mr. Bale explained the history and meaning behind vikepounds.
Other than that, great job!
Hi PR!
ReplyDeleteGood job with sales! I feel like compared to previous years, this year was extra smooth. Something I would recommend that would be kind of cute for the coming years is for all of ASB to wear our vikepounds so that the underclassmen would know what the tradition looks like on upperclassmen.
-Erin :)
Hi PR,
ReplyDeleteSo so so impressed with how organized this process was!!!! The shirts were so easy to find and everything was labeled so well! I do think having both online and in person sales resolved the issue we had last year with the excessively long lines, so good job with that! I think $20 is a reasonable price for vikepounds and people didn’t seem to have an issue with it. Overall, great job!
-Chloe
Hey PR!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with Vikepound sales this year! I heard that the sales went by really smoothly. I think that in order for Freshmen to understand what Vikepounds are, it would be good for either Freshmen teachers to talk about them during their classes or have us go to freshmen 4th period classes and talk about them. I think that $20 works fine since I haven't really heard any complaints about it. Overall great job!

Hey PR!
ReplyDeleteExcellent job with Vikepounds this year, the organization was spectacular and just so proud of you guys for organizing all the clothes and distributing it successfully. I saw the volunteer handbook and the instructions were also very clear. I think having online and in person sales is really convenient especially for those that don't use cash or check as much. Like mentioned above, I like the idea of freshman teachers talking to their students about what a vikepound is. Although that was already said through the PR video, but hearing it from a teacher could be more informational and encouraging for freshman to buy. Overall I think you guys did amazing on vikepounds this year and amazing job!!!!

Hi PR,
ReplyDeleteI think that vikepounds did really well this year. I do think that its important to present to freshmen specifically as they are the target audience. I also think that if we could use Viking day to buy vikepounds that would be ideal, as people can have their merch far before homecoming. Really great work.

hi PR!
ReplyDeletegreat job on Vikepound sales! I definitely think it's worth going to Freshman classes, and doing even more promo on top of that, because promo is arguable the most important aspect of getting sales. It might be nice for asb and just upper classmen in general to wear their vikepounds to school a couple times leading up to sales, so underclassmen see that it's like an "essential" Lynbrook apparel. I can't wait to see how this grows next year :D
-Emma.
Hey PR!
ReplyDeleteAmazing job on Vikepound sales! I think that you guys did a phenomenal job! I think one thing for next year would be more targeted promo, maybe having the freshmen class officers post on the freshmen instagram the importance of Vikepounds and the place they have in Lynbrook culture! Also maybe you guys could do a short video on the Lynbrook ASB Instagram interviewing people about their Vikepound or even making a Vikepound hype video of sorts to get people excited. Overall, amazing job!
- Kimaya :)
hi pr!!
ReplyDeletegreat job on vikepound sales! the process was so organized and smooth! one recommendation i have is working with class officers/the underclassmen department to promote vikepounds. juniors can promote the shirts for rallies and underclassmen can explain the signficance of vikepounds to lynbrook history. these creative promotion techniques will take us far! thank u guys!
- esha
hello pr!
ReplyDeletereally good work on the vikepound sales. i was apart of the volunterring aspect, and once we moved online it felt very quick and efficient. it also seemed that organizing went pretty well?!?!? i liked the idea of getting some promotion from link crew leaders and think that the $20 is not a problem. earlier sales might be a little more convenient for some students but i believe it just depends on whether pr is up to it... great work!!
-colin
hi pr,
ReplyDeleteThe distributing process went really smoothly. The idea to section off shirts to tables was really smart. I think the shirts were in direct competition with the freshman class merch which was released around the same time. Last year when I was a freshman I was kind of under the impression that vikepounds were THE lynbrook shirt so i had to buy it. So possibly consider directly reaching out to freshman for example in mandatory class meeting at the start of the school year and tell them its THE lynbrook merch and you don't have it you're uncool so they can differentiate it from class merch. good luck!

Hi Pr,
ReplyDeleteGood job this year with distribution! I think you guys did a really good job with the logistics of such a large distribution project, which I know is one of the hardest distributions that ASB does every year. I was very impressed with how you utilized the tables to alphabetically organize the shirts, making it easy to get everything to the customer very easily. Since one of the main points of vike pounds is to make a profit for ASB projects, I think its perfectly fair to make the shirts $20. Everything was cheaper last year due to covid etc, but I think as we go towards normalcy its much fairer to raise prices if it means we don't bleed money.
~peter
Hey PR, great job with vikepound sales! It was very efficient from what I saw, and people were happy to receive their vikepounds. However, I was hearing a lot throughout the year that people thought the vikepounds weren't coming. I understand it takes a while to get them all, but I think it would be nice to have some updates in between so students who ordered aren't completely in the dark until they arrive. I think besides that, freshman visits would be helpful too for those who don't know about vikepounds, and the cost is fine as it is, but if we need to raise prices now since covid is over, that seems like a reasonable option as well. Great job PR!
ReplyDelete- zayan
HI PR! great job with vikepounds I know you guys put in a lot of hard work and it all paid off! I think bringing back the Bale "vikepound history" video would be great to help people who aren't familiar with the significance of the shirt. Also, I think that going to the freshmen literature classrooms would be a great idea since it is primarily freshmen who buy vikepounds every year. Anyways, great job and I am excited for what you guys have in store for us in the rest of the year.
ReplyDelete-Satvik
hi pr!
ReplyDeletethis year has to be one of the most organized vikepound distribution cycles we've ever seen, so props for that! one thing you guys might want to consider when doing the passing out might be to have seperate pickup locations (ie. freshmen are at the den, but upperclassmen go to the gym lobby) to disperse the crowd.
also, i know link crew would definitely welcome any sort of promotional material and you might even consider having upperclassmen come to the last 10ish minutes of orientation wearing their vikepound shirts so that freshmen can see what the term "vikepound" actually means. mr. bale is one of the link crew advisors and does really good vikepound promo on his own, so potentially working with him on that could be a good idea.
-allison
Hello Pr!,
ReplyDeleteI really like how you guys organized this year's vikepound distribution. Here are some answers to your guy's questions:
"is it worth going to freshman classes? is it worth making physical posters and flyers? did the social media promotion feel sufficient?" - I think it is worth it going to freshman classes. Just wear your vike pound and head over to talk/put up a graphic.
"did $20 feel okay compared to last year's $15? we want to keep the price appealing but we cannot keep losing money - how do we strike that balance" - I think 20 is a normal price. If people will buy these shirts because they want the shirt for events and pictures not because of price or etc. If anyone does mention that the price is dissuading them you could do something about it then, but I think people are understanding.
"thoughts on starting end of school/summer so that sales and promo can start ASAP, hence shirts will be distributed in time for hoco (that's how it was 19-20)" - I think that this is actually way better than how it is right now. I was actually thinking about why the vikepound distribution was so late this year. You could also try to sell a few at the end of this year to distribute early? You could have an early bird kind of pricing too.
