Coin Wars

 Hey guys!

Firstly we want to thank you for participating or volunteering (or both) in Coin Wars! We could not have done it without you!

We would love if you could provide us some feedback on the event (or any other questions, comments, etc)!

Here are some points for discussion:

- Should we change the points system (ex. make dollars positive, coins negative, etc)

- Is pieing a good incentive? Would it be better for next year if we switched the incentive? Possibly if we pied teachers instead of CO's?

- Are there any different PR strategies we should have used to promote this event?

- Is hosting coin wars during rally week something we should continue?

Thank you for your feedback!

  1. hi clink (and alex li),
coin wars had a lot of engagement again this year. i think keeping bills negative is great since people tend to shift towards taking down other classes rather than benefitting their own, so they will donate more money towards the charities by using bills. it might be hard to find teachers to pie, since this is an event that happens every year and you may eventually have teachers being pied twice in the future. also, having the event during rally week is a bit hectic, especially this year with the rally running behind schedule. maybe host in a part of the year that's more quiet, just to have a small hype event to entertain students in between larger events. great job, and hopefully 24 wins next year!

  2. hi clank!!
like every year, coin wars was a really fun event for the classes. it's definitely unfortunate that the pieing couldn't take place during the rally, but i'm glad that you guys were able to adapt quickly. here are a few of my suggestions:
    1) in addition to pieing COs, teachers being pied could be a really cool incentive. if the pieing is still taking place at the rally, perhaps the spirited staff of the week could be pied? .//
    2) the points system is fine as it is; changing it next year might be confusing for students to keep track of
    3) i think the promo with the daily story results was fine; if teachers are getting pied they could also be a really good avenue of promotion to their students. it'd probably also be more efficient to make it mandatory for all class accounts to repost the ASB story

    again, super great job!

  3. hi clunk!
Great job with coin wars! As usual, it was super popular and came out to be a great battle of the classes! I don't see too much of an issue with the current points system, and I agree with Gio above that people find more pleasure in putting down other classes than donating to their own.

I also think that you should stick with class officers instead of teacher representatives, for a couple of reasons. The first is that I don't think people donate solely to see their class officers get pied. Of course it's a huge part of it, but I think what's more important is the spirit of the competition. My second point is that if you get certain teachers to represent each class, people may just donate because they want to see a certain teacher get pied, which takes away the "battle of the classes" portion. We tried a similar backpack drive event like this at Miller a couple years back, where Ms. Lam represented the 8th graders, but since so many people wanted to see Ms. Lam get pied, a lot of 6th and 7th graders donated to the 8th grade jar instead. Me personally, if was Mistabale is one of the candidates I'd forget about 2024 and only drop bank to see him at the rally :o

As a solution to above^, I think if you guys did "winning class gets COs pied, and as a school if we hit $x, then Ms. Jackson also gets pied!" or something along those lines, then I think we will definitely see a lot of people rushing to donate.

    looking forward to next year!

  4. hi clink!!

very happy that 23 won :)) great job on coin wars!! it's always a fun event to look forward to, and i think it was great event on top of all the winter rally festivities. i think it might be nice to try doing a positive point system but at the same time i think coin wars is based on the idea of coins being positive, so i'm not really sure how it would pan out. i think pieing is a good incentive, but i think it might be nice to somehow add another incentive, although it seems like class competition was enough of an incentive. maybe pieing the class officers and their advisors? or something that benefits the entire class like food or a discount? and i think hosting coin wars during rally week is nice because it gets everyone more hyped up for the rally.

  5. hi clink!!

amazing job planning coin wars and dealing with the hassle of counting coins every day. as mentioned in class today, i think it is a smart decision to just use coin star instead of manually counting coins every day. it will be a lot less work on clinks end and also be more accurate. as ms lawrence said, i dont think paying the fees that come along with depositing money can be avoided so this is probably the most efficient solution. i think the point system is good as it is right now. i feel like if you guys change it, it may be harder to keep track of and also be confusing for the student body. i think more incentives along with pieing could be smaller dares that co's or clink could do. ex. if a class gets 5,000 points the class vp's have to do a dance battle or if a class gets 10,000 points their cp has to do karaoke to a song. random dares that would incentive people to donate more to their class. i believe having mini goals will help people donate more because they have an amount they are trying to reach instead of just trying to beat all the other classes. thank you guys for hosting an amazing event!!

  6. hi clink!

loved coin wars this year! points system is good since coins are harder to source and if they were negative, there would be a lot more bills = more possibly rogue class warfare T-T i think in terms of pieing the classes can send out a form to vote on which teachers theyd like pied? pr seemed good (kudos to shreya!) and i think this tradition of having it with rally week is nice (as emma mentioned its nice having the cos get pied at the rally) good work!

Great job w/ coin wars and being able to raise so much money! In terms of the incentive, I think pieing CO's should still be kept, though having it at the rally itself would definetely make it a tradition and something that students look forward to (like Emma mentioned in class). On top of that, maybe getting a few teachers to be pied as well would be nice (if possible) as not all students know the co's and only those who know co's personally will find it as an incentive while for teachers more students hope to see them get pied. In terms of PR, there could be a larger push for the acutal charities and the purpose of the event to promote more friendly competition. Great job clink!!

  8. Hi Clink,

Good job with coin war this year. I actually do think it would be cool to switch it up a little bit next year, perhaps by either pieing someone else or maybe allowing the student body to vote for a couple of ideas. I also think its still a good idea to have coin wars during a spirit week since with the amount of energy around school pride at this time I think that it is the perfect time to get he max amount of charity.

  9. hi CLINK!!!
y'all did an amazing job at hosting coin wars!! adapting to not having enough time at the rally also worked out well. here's a couple of feedback points: make sure to promote that coin wars will CONTINUE during rally setup. i think some people were confused and clarifying it in a final reminder graphic would be good. this way, there will also be more turnout at rally setup. i think students would love watching COs get pied. i wonder if you can add another layer of incentive. if the overall amount raised hits a certain milestone, a teacher gets pied or the ASBOs does something silly/spicy ramen challenge. this would be in addition to the winning class's officers getting pied. this way, people wouldn't just be motivated to win for their class. in terms of promotion, encouraging COs to post on the class accounts could help as well.

  10. Hello!

To answer the first question about the point system, something that was suggested last year was the idea of creating "special" point days to incentivize people to donate. For example, you guys can make cash worth double the points on the last day, or make quarters worth twice as much etc. as a way to kind of stir the pot and create a sense of urgency/frenzy so that people are encouraged to donate more. Although the idea of pieing is good, I think pieing teachers would be more entertaining than pieing class officers, and you guys would save on supplies as well since it would probably only be one or two. Great job this year!!

  11. Hey Clink!!

I think the point system works out just fine as seen throughout the years. However I feel like the incentive for the winners could be changed. It might just be me but I think pieing someone is rather a bad thing than a good thing. Yes although the class is watching the officers get pied but that is just a reward/bad thing for the officers and not for the entire class. I believe there should be an incentive that applies toward the entire class, maybe like a large mural/backdrop posted up on the walls. I like the idea about pieing the teachers in addition to just the class officers as teachers really like being involved in student activities. Since coin wars lead to valentines club market and even club food day, is there a way for seniors to have a discount on buying things at these events. I think that it should still be a first come first serve basis depending on the clubs selling things or else the clubs might not be able to make a profit. Overall awesome job with this event!

i personally think that this event was a huge success and it was super exciting to see the point updates every day. as for pr, i feel that y'all did a really good job with that and attendance was pretty good? i think a more direct incentive for students would be great but honestly idk how possible that'd be. along with that, i really like the idea of "embarrassing" the officers at the rally and think it'd be cool if we could actually get this done every year. As for a replacement for pieing.... i'm not completely sure but i think teasing the officers in front of the school at rallies is super fun and super funny!! otherwise great work on the huge success clink!!

  13. hey clinkies!!
i think coin wars was a blast and we raised a lot of money. the point system worked well and i dont suggest flipping it around as jars would overflow with bills, and coins wouldn't make a dent in a class' earnings. pieing was nice, but it wasn't really a direct incentive for students - personally, i didn't want the co's pied/did think that them being pied was something to look forward to. i love jeffery's idea (above) of having specific teachers assigned to a grade, and grades that reach the goal amount can pie that teacher OR choose a teacher (from a list) to pie. i think this would be better than giving individual prizes/items to those donating because those who may not be financially stable enough to donate can have some fun too! having better incentives would make people more prone to donating AND telling their peers to donate = pr for free! what we can do next year is make a "hype" video that contains clips of students donating and very short interviews as to why they donated. this can be posted in the middle of the week to encourage other students. having points updated every night was a great idea and should definitely be continued! coin wars during rally week seemed fine as rally day was a good conclusion for it.

i think coin wars was a blast and the fact we raised money while having fun made it even better. I think the point system worked really well and that pieing was a really good incentive in the end. Maybe for future years, add a teacher for each grade. Instead of posters for promotion, I think it would work well to cut giant coins and hang them around campus as decor. Coin wars should definitely be good for the rally week, and the pieing should be done during the rally! Overall, great event and I can't wait for future ones.

    GREAT JOB on coin wars!
    1) I personally don't think it's necessary to change the point system as this system has been used for so long that it's become kind of like tradition at this point.
    2) The video you guys used to promo was really, really good and definitely helped a lot. Currently the charities that are donated to are chosen by class officers right? Maybe this option can be opened up to the class if possible-- this would add more of an incentive to donate.
    3) I believe students would prefer seeing class officers get pied as opposed to teachers, but honestly both are enjoyed by most people. It should definitely happen at the rally though so the hype is all there!

    Overall really well done!!

great job with coin wars! i really enjoyed seeing all the excitement from all the classes.
    for your discussion points:
    1) i feel like clink should continue making dollars negative because people tend to stray towards decreasing the money in other classes.
    2) pieing is a great incentive. if it's done in the rally every year, i think it definitely boosts excitement. of course, changing it up and pieing teachers is also a nice idea.
    3) for pr strategies, i'm not 100% sure what the exact pr strategies were. however, i think creating (or continue creating) a daily update in the coins is a way to boost participation.
    overall, such an amazing event!

amazing job w coin wars! everyone loved it and it resulted in so much money for charity<3 i know there were issues with competition during rally set up. i think as long as it isn't harmful a little competitive vibe around the table during the last few minutes is fun but if it did end up getting a bit out of control then it was good that clinkies were there to regulate. as for the pie-ing, definitely figuring out a way to pie during the rally (perhaps working with spirit a bit earlier to figure it out) would make it a lot more memorable. great job!

Great job with coin wars, it so much fun every year to participate! Personally, I think we should continue to have coin wars and winter rally together. I understand that it is a very stressful time and also difficult for Clink but from a student perspective, I think it is super fun because we can be a little competitive and helps students get into the mood of rally. I also think both events help promote each other so I personally would love to keep the two events closely together. If it really is too stressful, we could maybe do coin wars a week before and have the announcements come out during rally. That way its a string of events and still helps the two events promote each other.

  19. Hello Clink,
Amazing job with this event. Even now, months later, I can still remember the competitive spirit. Some recommendations, I think that granting a reward for the class could be a better incentive than pieing. In the first place, it is the spirit of competition and the lack of wanting to lose that mainly inspires students to participate in things like this. In this sense, it would be better to grant a reward to the winners. My idea of an award would not be something granted to the individual but granted to the class as a whole. A trophy, belt, or physical representation of their victory would be a good idea. Maybe a poster of a sort that is hung up in victory?

good job on this event!! i think the point system should still remain the same since most people are trying to decrease money in the other classes so if you change it, it might be more work for you guys when counting. i think pieing is definitely a good incentive. for promotion, creative promo is an option or a hype video, but also having winter rally the same week as coin wars helped with promotion too since people wanted to see the pieing happen during the rally which leads to the last point which is coin wars should happen on rally week. overall, the event was super successful and lots of fun!! great job<3

  21. Hey clink,

Coin wars was really fun and getting to see the seniors co's get pied was quite entertaining. (sophomore second finish 😈πŸ’ͺ!!!!!) I think the point system is fine as is. Something that clink can possibly look into next year is doing individual co team punishments like Tino has for their fall harvest drive or something. If there are tier prizes like ex 100 dollars and 2025 dyes their hair pink for 1 day then there will be more active participation because the people who donate get a reward quicker which then motivates them to donate more to reach a certain goal and get the punishment they want for their co team. Other than that I think coin wars was fine. A small detail that can be fixed is that the deadline to donate was thursday rally setup and that caused a lot of people to be diverted from actual rally setup. otherwise good job keep it up clink πŸ’―

  22. Hey Clink!!

PR strategies can always be improved to attract more participants to the event. Consider using social media platforms to promote the event and partnering with other school clubs or organizations to spread the word. Additionally, consider creating a catchy hashtag or slogan to use on promotional materials.

Hosting Coin Wars during rally week can be a good way to increase participation and excitement around the event. However, consider the workload and time constraints for both the organizers and participants during rally week. It may be worth exploring other times during the school year to host the event that do not conflict with other school activities.

  23. Hello clinkies, great job with coin wars! I really like the friendly competition brought about by coin wars and it really brings out a lot of class and school spirit in the student body, Having it on a spirit week had pros and cons, I think it felt more special of a week with everything going on but it also got a little congested schematically. Overall it may be better to find a different time of the year than rally week, but the event seemed to be a success and a lot of money was raised for good causes. It's also a very iconic event that I think a lot of people will always enjoy, and you guys did a great job with it this year. Actually, someone from a different school even told me about how they thought Lynbrook's Coin Wars sounded fun, so it's actually big even outside of our school. Anyway, that's all, bye!

great job on coin wars! i really love the message of this event as well as the student engagement. i think pairing this even with winter rally really adds to the hype, and pieing is a good incentive for the class. however, i think it's extremely important to prioritize the pieing as an event that happens during the rally, since cos are sacrificing their skin for the next week (lol) but more importantly it's important to make the class feel rewarded for the effort they put in. I really loved that we could choose the charity to donate to; i think choosing the Trevor Project for 2023 really motivated lots of students to donate since they felt connected with its message.

  25. Hey Clink,

Kudos on organizing an awesome Coin War this year! How about switching things up a bit and introducing some fresh twists? For example, instead of just pieing one person, we could expand the options and let the student body vote on a couple of exciting ideas.

Also, I strongly believe that hosting Coin Wars during Spirit Week is still a fantastic idea. The energy and enthusiasm surrounding school pride during that time are off the charts! It's the perfect opportunity to generate maximum participation and charitable contributions.

    Thanks, Sagar.

  26. hi hi clink,

to weigh in on some of your questions:
    - i like the points system as it is. i think the motivation to bring other classes down (using dollars) is stronger than the motivation to boost one's own class up (using coins), which would bring in more money for the charity.

    - i think pieing is fun, but definitely consider pieing teachers or someone a bit more known to the other classes, not just the winning one.

    - i think u might incorporate coins into your promo more... potentially leaving pennies around campus next to "COIN WARS" posters?
    great job clink!

  27. Hi Clinkkkk

Coin Wars is one of my favorite events because of its positive impacts on society. I'm so happy yall were able to create a beneficial change out of your work <33

To create an incentive for students to donate I would recommend getting pieing suggestions. Sometimes there are people outside of ASB that others want pied. If they agree to it, you may gain more participation as a result!

Thanks for a great coin wars and can't wait to see next years get even bigger and better.

  28. hi clink-

Coin wars is an event that I think is never bad but could be so good with just minor changes. I think using class competitiveness to your advantage is something to really lean into, as that is something that Lynbrook for sure does not lack. Finding a way to show the leaderboard and the amount every day is definitely something to keep, but even going further and having an additional incentive to win would generate even more competition = more money raised. For example this could be the winning class gets an advantage in a game in winter rally. Of course, at the end of the day, there is a bunch of money raised for some good cause either way, so it doesn't really matter who "wins".

  29. Hey Clink!

Great job on coin wars and I'm sure you guys are exhausted. I think that it definitely got very chaotic though I'm not sure if you guys had enough helping hands this time around. Moving it to a different week would definitely be beneficial since it wouldn't take away attention from the rally but it would also be good enough on its own. I think one way to incentivize people donating earlier would be to incentivize the winners of each day with extra points, that way, you aren't left with all the coins to count on the last day!

Amazing job with coin wars, it really has been one of my favorite events throughout high school and this year was just another reminder of that. I think that one thing we can do in the future is really lean into the motivations of the students. I feel like a lot more people are donating for the sake of winning rather than seeing the class officers get pied. I think it would be interested to implement some exclusive bonuses if you donate a certain amount of money. Maybe like Valentines Club Market, we can pie teachers! Anyways, great event and I am excited to hear about it next year.
