Pixar Spirit Week + Winter Rally

HEY ASB!

Spirit had our Pixar Spirit Week from 1/23 to 1/26, ending the week off with our Winter Rally on 1/27. We once again want to thank you guys all so much for helping us with this amazing week.

Spirit Week:

Here are the days in order:

Cozy Winter Wear Monday

Teacher Student Switch Tuesday

Wednesday’s We Wear Pink

Tie vs Tie Dye Thursday

Once again, we tried going for more tiktok-y spirit days rather than more conventional spirit days. We saw the highest participation on Cozy Winter Monday and Wednesday’s We Wear Pink, and the lowest participation for Teacher Student Switch Tuesday.

Points for Discussion:

  • Should we bring back daily backdrops? For fall rally, we thought it was too much work for something that didn’t get the engagement we were looking for

  • Although Teacher Student Switch day was aimed to get teachers more involved, it was still a bit hard to participate in. Should we continue having spirit days like this?

  • Should we bring back the daily recap reels for the next spirit week? We couldn't have them this spirit week because there were so many ASB events in January it would be too much spam

  • What other ways can we promo the spirit week and make the week just feel more special

Rally Setup/Rehearsal

We had rally setup for 4-8PM on Thursday 1/26. All backdrops were made in front of the ASB Den. For balloons, freshmen and seniors worked in the gym lobby and the juniors and sophomores worked in the ASB Classroom.

Points for Discussion:

  • Was the gym lobby a large inconvenience due to the rehearsal acts walking through the balloon making to get to the gym?

  • Were there any mass inconveniences/confusions with either balloon or backdrop making? (We heard that a some classes were very stressed out towards the end so feel free to talk about that)

  • How can we convince more people to come out to rally setup?

Rally Day

To wrap up the week, we had our Pixar-themed WINTER RALLY on 1/27. It took place in the gym during tutorial. As you all probably know, we really wanted to use slides to dive into the theme of “movies”, “pixar”, “watching a tv”, which ended up not happening due to the projector not working. This caused a huge delay at the beginning of the rally, causing us to cut out the coin wars pieing and some other segments. Besides that, everything else went extremely smoothly.

Points for Discussion:

  • Any general feedback? What went well? What didn’t go well?

  • Any ideas on how to make the class dance intros more special?

  • Was the rally boring due to a lack of games?

  • How clear were our mics? 2 mics were cutting out throughout the rally

  • Would students appreciate being able to take pictures in the gym during lunch? (similar to hoco where the backdrop would be up during lunch as well)

Thank you for all your feedback :)))

  • Spirit

  1. hi spirit!
first of all, I just wanted to thank you guys for pulling through during the rally and being able to show the rally video. it's unfortunate that we couldn't show the slides, because they looked great and would have been a really cool addition to the rally experience. i actually think the rally was more interesting since it was full of performances. in my opinion, seeing your friends perform in a rally is more interesting than seeing them play in rally games. hopefully tech can figure out the mic situation, but i think despite them cutting out people could mostly understand what you were saying. at the end of the day, i feel like a lot of the classes are just waiting for the performances and don't really mind if the lines are too hard to understand. finally, i definitely think the gym should be open for pictures during lunch, but that would probably extend cleanup to after school and you would have to deal with patrolling to make sure no food is brought in the gym. great job, and i'm looking forward to a strong finish with farewell rally!

  2. hii spirit,

great job on the rally!! it was really fun and all the performances were really amazing. i think the daily backdrops were nice from last rally, but i think that it's definitely ok to just do one big poster. i think teacher student switch day was definitely a cute idea, but i think for a lot of students it was kind of hard to participate in and sometimes it's also not that obvious to show it. i think the daily recap reels were nice to have, especially featuring what people wear i think gets people more excited about participating. other than that, you all did amazing thank you!

  3. HI SPIRIT!!!!!!!!
Great job with this spirit week! I definitely agree that teacher student switch day was harder to participate in, and I think it’s because students don’t know which teacher to dress up as and can’t match their style. As for the rally, clink was really sad when we got cut from pieing officers since we already had everything set up and ready to go. I wish there was a clear plan for what to do if we got cut, since we switched to brunch, and then changed it again to lunch for the pieing. Other than that, thank you for making this week so much fun! Looking forward to farewell rally!!!

  4. hi spirit!

i think something shreya mentioned during outro that is a really good idea is a fantastics-style backdrop with multiple sections -> 1 good poster better than toiling away at 4/5 that may not be worth the blood sweat n tears. i think the spirit days this time were a little more vague/challenging (except pink perhaps) -> i suggest spirit days that are visibly easy to understand, if that makes sense? recap reels are good, lets bring them back for farewell!

for setup, i felt the gym lobby was fine? it was not that bad having people come through imo but i know that varies from class to class. for the rally itself, SUPER WELL EXECUTED! i thought the only mishap was the projector (out of yalls control) and all the performances, lines, everything were all so amazing.

overall great job! looking forward to farewell :)

  5. hi spirit!!
super great job on winter rally!! In terms of backdrops, having one is definetely enough as it's excessive work to make a backdrop for each individual day. Personally, we found the gym lobby not to be the best place since people kept coming in and out and the place where the outlet was and where the balloons were acutally being tied onto the line had to be kept empty as a walkway making it a lot harder to make them. Also, there wasn't really anything to tie the lines to which made it harder as well. Rather than a confusion, I think an issue that 26 had was that most people who were at rally setup were the dancers and instead of helping out they were just getting in the way by hanging out in areas (esp the gym lobby) where co's and actual volunteers were trying to get work done which made the balloon arches really stressful in the end (we had around 30 min to make our last one -- shoutout to juniors and seniors for helping us!!). Although the auditorium is a longer walk, compared to the gym lobby, I think that auditorium is still better as with so many people in the gym lobby just hanging out and coming in and out, it was quite the mess. Generally for the spirit week and rally day I think everything went pretty well and it was enjoyable. I'd suggest having more solid and easier to follow days as the more specific the easier it is to know exactly what to wear. For the rally, despite the mics not working well, I actually didn't know about it until it was brought up in the outro!! Great job spirit!!

  7. hallo spirit!!
thank you for another banger rally!! winter rally is def an iconic lynbrook tradition and you guys definitely contributed to the legacy! here are a couple of reflection points:
    - spirit week: i think the recap videos are really cute! if you can't make them because of spam, i recommend takign pics and vids are including them in the rally slides/video. using the school spirit from the dress up days to power up/unlock something? that would be cool. working with rec to recognize most spirited students from each grade would be good too.
    - rally setup: the class fundraisers during rally setup are a smart idea because people are usually hungry during that time. to incentivize rally setup, it would be good to encourage CPs + PR to post on the IG accounts. posting a video of people working/blowing balloons + saying "come to rally setup rn!!" would give people a better way to visualize what it involves.
    - rally: i really liked that this rally was noncompetitive and performance based. this is really important because everyone was really supportive and there was no stress/tension about the quality of dances. hearing everyone cheer each other on felt super uniting and thanks for including that winter rally is a way to prep for idc fantastics!

overall winter rally was definitely a huge operation, especially starting planning right after fall rally! please get some rest and you should be proud of yourselves!
    best,

  8. Hey Spirit!

Amazing job, as always, with the most recent rally! It was so fun and exciting, and jam-packed with performances that were stunning to watch.
For the spirit week in particular, I enjoyed dressing up every day! I was especially excited for Wednesdays we wear Pink and Tie vs Tie Dye Thursday because they felt more accessible than others of the week. Personally, the switch with a teacher day was hard to accomplish because no one really knows the specific style of a teacher. My suggestion is that spirit put the days with the lowest entrance bar of participation towards the start of the week, and build up on difficulty as the week continues. That way, when we come back to school from the weekend, we can feel the spirit and see everyone dressed up.
During rally setup, I feel like Spirit could partner with the classes and increase food fundraisers because people get hungry during setup! I myself had a boba and 2 slices of pizza.
It was very unfortunate that the projector wasn’t working during the rally, which led to some segments being cut. But Spirit did an amazing job adapting and working with what they had which was awesome! I really appreciate Spirit for everything they do!
    Thanks Spirit!

  9. Hello!

First off, I really love what you guys have been doing this year with the creative slides, and it was a huge bummer that we didn't get to see the ones for this rally— please keep doing what you're doing! I think we could do a better job of promoting the dress up days a little better and making them more obvious. For example, cozy winter wear during the winter months doesn't really exude a ton of spirit since most students are showing up in sweaters/jackets anyway and might not know the difference. However, something like pajama day (where students can bring blankets, stuffed animals, sweats) still allows people to stay cozy while making it obvious that there is an event going on/they're participating in it.

  10. hi spirit!!

wrally was so much fun and im glad everything worked out for the most part in the end! even though we did not get to see the slides you guys put together, i love the idea of them and think they should be done for every rally. a way i think would give people an incentive to come to rally set up is offering points on the lynbrook app. after the rally i heard quite a few people asking how they can get points for friday since we werent able to show the qr code on the slides. i think the lynbrook spirit points are already a big incentive for people to show their spirit because of the hoodies that are being offered. as far as the backdrop and decorations go, i think people would appreciate having them up until lunch. this would also give co's more time to take pictures as well instead of having to clean up right away. this would probably make it easier on excusals as well if we clean up towards the end of lunch since some people do not have a 6th period. the performances were also so fun to watch and i love how wrally is centered around that. even though there were no games, it was just as amusing. great job and im so excited for farewell rally + spirit week!

  11. Hey spirit!!

I am loving all the themes you guys have with the rallies. The slideshow was such a perfect touch to the rally I’m so sorry that wasn’t able to work out. First off with the backdrops, if students aren't taking pics with it or that engaged with it then I don't think its worth bringing it back as its work thats going to waste. I think many of us assumed that students weren't participation in spirit days, however days like winter wear was super easy to "participate" as students naturally wear cozy clothes so in their mind they're already dressed up. I think the daily recap reels are very encouraging for students to dress up as students can see the various ways students are dressing up for events like this. Finally for rally setup, definitely have class host their fundraisers during that time because food can attract a lot of attention. Overall, awesome job on this rally and I can't wait for the farewell rally. :((((( :)))))))

i'd iike to say i absolutely loved this spirit week and rally theme.. i think that continuing to make these reels to see the students participating is a great pr strategy and helping to remind students to dress up. along with that, instead of a backdrop maybe we could consider making an instagram story graphic where people could add their own picture in and post (almost like the insta sticker, but a lil more visually appealing) idk which one is more work but i think this would be a pretty cool idea. otherwise great work on a VERY exciting rally..

  13. HEY SPIRIT!!
loved loved loved the rally and week as usual! 🥳

    as per your discussion points:
    spirit week:
    1. i think daily backdrops are a lot of work, and i like the idea of one big backdrop featuring all the days. however, i also think it would be nice to put up a backdrop, ESPECIALLY FOR RALLY DAYS. this backdrop could have the same clashing theme and sections representing each class's rally theme. it would be ideal to hang it up in the gym so students could take pictures after the rally. i think this would be more relevant and would attract more attention!
    2. i do agree that the teacher-student switch day was a bit difficult because (personally) my teachers didn't have specific dressing styles and wore general clothes (like me!). furthermore, i don't think many of them would have crop tops/ripped jeans and other styles of clothes that we generally wear. i do love the idea of including them in the week, but maybe finding other themes/ways would be better. an example could be having TWO themes/day (one for teachers and one for students). hopefully, this would want them to get involved more.
    3. daily recap reels are super fun, but do spam instagram a lot and take time to make. for the next spirit week, we could have ONE reel - a combination of all the spirit days - posted the THURSDAY evening before rally day as a "hype video". generally, it would be nice if we could represent different niches on campus and people who usually are not in the spotlight.
    4. no thoughts on this :(

    rally setup/rehearsal:
    1. i worked in the gym lobby for most of the setup, and it worked fine. the only downfall was that a lot of people would get distracted when a class was performing, and work would progress really slowly. i don't think this would be a problem for other rallies (not winter), but it was something different.
    2. again, as per #1, the work progress was extremely slow in the gym because many were getting distracted by the performers (honestly can't blame them it was fun to watch).
    3. i think it was a super fun idea to sell food and fundraise at rally setups! in the future, we could offer clubs spots and on a first-come-first-serve basis allow them to sell food/materials too. keep some spots (3) and whichever club signs up first can sell! that way clubs will promote rally setup to their members and (hopefully) more people show up to buy things and get some work done. :)

    rally day:
1/2/3. no feedback it was freaking awesome.
    4. it was a little hard to hear when someone was speaking because the audio was cutting out. additionally, while speaking there was a lot of cheering (which is great!!) but it was hard to hear what was going on. possibly for the next rally, you guys could cut down the script a little bit to enable some time for cheering and then talk afterward?
    5. LOL i just read this question (see first set of q#s)

love you guys lots and can't wait for the farewell rally! 💗💗

  14. hi spirit!
i loved the rally theme this time and the spirit days were amazing! In regards to the teacher switch day, I think that it was a bit hard for students to participate, so in the future, including days like this would be good if it was easily accessible. continuing reels would enhance the participation and hype people up for the rally day. Overall, the week was amazing and I hope we have more themes like this in the future <3

  15. Hi spirit!!
I really loved the theme of this rally (it was really well done!) and it's a shame that the slides weren't able to be projected :(
But on the other hand, here are just some things I noticed
    1) Daily backdrops aren't being used, but we should take advantage of how everyone takes pics after the rally if you guys want backdrops. Especially since people prefer picture backgrounds to just be Lynbrook or the quad on spirit days, I feel like it might be more worth it to put up the backdrops similar to how it was at the Fantastics rally-- in the gym, with all the themes + streamers. More people take pictures after rallies in the gym, it saves PR a lot of time + paper (sustainability!), and might be used more.
    2) Students working on balloon arches in the gym lobby weren't too big of a blockway, and I think it's a great place for them to work to both save space in the den and spread everything out. It would also definitely be worth it to have classes do fundraisers during rally setup time, like the boba fundraiser from before. People might be more willing to come if it means supporting their class and food.
    3) Could not tell the mics were cutting out!! You guys handled it really really well :)
    4) Getting teachers involved was a really sweet idea, and I did see a lot of cute teacher-student interactions because of this day. From my point of view this spirit day is worth having and it's balanced out pretty well with more accessible days like pink out day (which was super fun!!)

Overall amazing job (as always) and I'm so so so excited to see what you guys do for farewell rally!

  16. Hey Spirit! Great job with the spirit week and the rally! To answer some of your discussion points, I think teacher-student switch day was a really creative idea and it was funny because students were taking photos with their teachers and posting them. I think it is definitely cool to have days like this as this gets more engagement from the teachers, but of course you are sacrificing participation as not everyone is willing to go through the trouble. My opinion is that you guys can keep doing similar things but limit it to probably one day per spirit week.

Onto the recap videos, I really enjoyed them in first semester and I thought they were so so creative! Since April is not as hectic in terms of ASB events, I think you guys should definitely bring them back for Farewell.

    Looking forward to it!

  17. hii spirit! great job on this spirit week/rally :)) To answer some discussion questions:

    Rally:
    1. I think there should be backdrops, but it doesn't need to be daily. Rather, one backdrop that encompasses all the days is enough.
    2. I agree that the student/teacher spirit day was pretty hard to participate in. However, I think spirit weeks can be more of a mix of easy and difficult days to target people who want to go full out.
    Rally day:
    1. The rally definitely was not boring. All the class dances make up for the lack of games. Overall, I think that's what makes winter rally so special compared to some of the other rallies in the school year.
    2. The mic problem wasn't bad. In fact, I didn't even notice there was a problem... LOL (spirit professionalism >>)

Overall, I loved participating in this spirit week and rally!

AMAZING JOB w winter rally!! here is my feedback from a CP perspective: everything was communicated really well with us, all the deadlines, restrictions, rehearsal times, etc were very clear so thank u for staying transparent and communicative w us. i think the lack of games wasn't a huge issue since the dances were very entertaining. additionally i do think there was less stress on the COs as well as our choreo since it wasn't competitive so that's something to think about for next year. can't wait for next year!

  19. Hey Spirit!

Great job on this spirit week and rally. I do think that the student-teacher spirit day was more difficult since it was harder to identify who was dressing up as what. I think its a good idea to have more teacher participation in spirit weeks but I think that the days themselves should be different. I also think that daily backdrops are too much work than they are worth and a universal backdrop is more effective. Overall great job!

I loved spirit week so much! It was definitely one of my favorites. I think one thing spirit could do is incorporate the choreographers more during rally. I want to give choreographers more recognition and also I think its more entertaining that way. Maybe make a mini script incorporating them would be nice!

  21. Hello Spirit,
Great job with the rally. I love being a part of the rallying and performing as well as being an audience member. It is quite a shame that the slideshow didn’t quite work for this event. I thought that I would be having more freebies or physical things that people can bring around. This would work in the same way as dressing up for the spirit day as if you see someone with a physical object just as if you see someone dress up for a spirit day, you become curious and want to talk/ask about it. This would help for promotion as well as creating more involvement with students. Also, I think that anything that involves the teachers more with the processes, etc is a great idea. As Ms. Kirsh has stated in the past, teachers love participating in events such as these.

  22. Hey spirit !!!!!!!!!

    To the discussion questions:
    - One backdrop for all days is fine, people will still take photos with them on each day. I feel like making anew one can increase participation in photo taking in front of te backdrop but its not that much more and I just think that I's not worth you guys and Pr's time.
-In the future, simpler spirit days will get the most participation. harder ones like student teacher swap had low participation outside of asb because it was the hardest. there are only so many teachers so they can't all swap with the students. Pink out was the best day and days like that will be most efficient if the purpose is to get max participation
    - To minimize spam, you guys can try a reel summarizing mon-thurs released on thursday night before the rally to hype people up.
    - The rally itself was great and the rehearsals were clean! Great job spirit

  23. Hi Spirit!! Good job on the event!!

Should we bring back daily backdrops?
Consider the effort required to make them and the level of engagement they generate. If it doesn't seem worth the effort, it might be better to focus on other ways to promote the spirit week.
Should we continue having spirit days like this?
Consider the level of participation and whether it's worth it. If it seems like students and teachers are having a hard time participating, it might be better to come up with more inclusive spirit days.
Should we bring back the daily recap reels for the next spirit week?
Consider the level of engagement they generate and whether they would be well-received by the student body. If so, it might be worth bringing them back.
What other ways can we promote the spirit week and make the week feel more special?
Maybe utilizing social media, creating posters, and having more interactive activities during lunchtime.
How can we convince more people to come out to rally setup?
Consider creating incentives for students to come out, such as providing snacks or giving extra credit to classes that have more students attend.
Any general feedback on the Winter Rally? What went well? What didn’t go well?
Asking for feedback from students and teachers could be useful to identify areas of improvement and what worked well.
Any ideas on how to make the class dance intros more special?
Consider brainstorming creative ideas for the intros, such as incorporating the Pixar theme or having students perform a unique dance.
Was the rally boring due to a lack of games?
    No, the rally was great!
How clear were our mics? 2 mics were cutting out throughout the rally.
    I could hear well!

amazing job on the rally!!!! it was so much fun and you guys pulled through even with technical difficulties. for teacher student switch day, i think it was a super cute idea, but a little hard to participate. for the rally setup, unfortunately i wasn't able to go due to a massive test the next day, but i think providing snack and food is definitely a good way to get people to go. for the class dance intros, i think it'd be cute if you guys played a short video with small clips of their dance to get everyone hyped for the class dances. the rally definitely wasn't boring at all because it was so much fun watching and cheering on the other classes while they danced. as i said before, you guys handled the technical difficulties very well, and honestly, i didn't really notice your mics cutting out. great job!!!!

great job on winter rally, it was so much fun! regarding the backdrops, i think it was a good idea not to do daily backdrops. even though having a new backdrop everyday is really cute, you guys have so much else going on that week and i think conserving your energy for higher engagement activities is more important. regarding rally activities, i think it was fine that there weren't any games because the performances that all the student group put on were really good and entertaining. i don't think students need lunch to take photos since it makes clean up a lot more complicated and 15 minutes is generally enough time.

  26. Heyy Spirit! Amazing job on winter rally + spirit week! I thought the spirit days were really creative and engaging and I saw a lot of people participating in them so amazing job! I also thought the rally itself was really engaging with all the class dances and that your scripts were really well written and creative! I think for the spirit days, maybe in the future you guys want to consider not having a backdrop, as it blew away a lot and I'm sure you guys spent a lot of time on it so maybe in the future you can conserve that time and spend it on something else. Overall, amazing job!

  27. Hello Spirit!

Good job with the rally. I had a ton of fun at the rally, and it was overall a really fun event. I don't think we should have daily backdrops as those are a lot of work and most students do not take pictures with them. I do however, like the reels and I think that it's a fun way to encourage people to do spirit days. Finally, I think rally games are what makes a rally feel complete. I get that winter rally is different and is meant to showcase performances, but I think that in future rallies we should consider including at least one game.

    Great work!

  28. Hey Spirit!

You all rocked it during this Spirit Week and rally. I have to admit, though, the student-teacher spirit day was a bit challenging. It was tough to figure out who was dressed up as what since the identification was a bit tricky. Having said that, I'm totally on board with increasing teacher participation in future spirit weeks. However, I feel like we could mix things up by having different theme days for the students and teachers. It would add more variety and excitement to the overall experience.

I think daily ones might be a bit too demanding compared to their impact. Maybe we can consider using a universal backdrop that works for all the spirit days. It would save us some effort and still create an awesome visual effect.

    Thanks, Sagar.

  29. hi spirit! this spirit week was so much fun, you guys did a really great job. to answer some of your questions:

    1. i think it's completely fine not to have daily backdrops and just have the single overarching one. this way you conserve your efforts, materials, and students that want to participate can still do so.

    2. a better way to frame student teacher switch day could be "dress like a teacher" and "dress like a student" day. the concept of having a teacher take on a single student's style and vice versa is pretty inaccessible and only allows one student/teacher pair to participate fully. instead, by having a "dress like a teacher/student" day, the prompt is more broad and allows more people to participate.

    3. i like the reels, and i think bringing the recap reels back could be lots of fun. i know it could be a lot of spam, but you might consider utilizing the asbspirit account rather than the lynbrookasb one.

    amazing job, as always

  30. hi spirit-

Winter rally and idol is my second most anticipated lynbrook event (after hoco). I love the emphasis on the performance aspect of the entire week, but this also means it is very difficult to pull off without lots and lots of planning. To have the rally go as smooth as possible, I would recommend having multiple runthroughs with tech and coordinating a ton with the class dancers and other performing groups. I'm not sure if you guys have a handbook for this rally to give out to the many groups involved in this rally, but if not, I would highly recommend creating one.

  31. hello spirit!!!!
amazing spirit week and rally!!! i think everything was really well planned and enjoyable for the student body. I don't personally think it is worth it to do the daily backdrops, and that having just one big backdrop for the whole week is perfect, as I think students are content without having changing backdrops. I think a potential way to convince more people to attend rally setup is by maybe recognizing the people who go to rally setup (ex. feature them on lynbrook asb story). Overall, great job!!!!
