Lunar New Year
hi asb!
Thanks to everyone who helped with Lunar New Year this year! Here's a general recap:
1. Decs were up from 2/7-2/10
2. Decs included banners, teacher decs, lanterns
3. We had different activities during lunch in the quad from 2/8-2/10 with JNHS and NCHS
4. Activities ranged from origami, to calligraphy, and lanterns
We outroed already, but we'd love to hear your feedback on the following questions:
-Should we continue to celebrate Lunar New Year even if it has to be a week late?
-How should we improve this event to cater to more students?
-And any other suggestions you may have!
Love,
PR
Hi PR!!
ReplyDeleteI saw so many Lunar New Year decorations and I was even surprised that you guys were able to reach the farther classrooms esp the english wing. It added to the idea that it was Lunar New year and it avoided the factor of decs being stolen which I think worked out perfectly!! The activities were a perfect touch to the event as students are able to interact with the cultures from these countries which could possibly be something they would never have a chance to do at home. Although it was a week late, students were still very engaged. I think a better idea would be to do it the week before so all the decoration and activities lead up to Lunar New Year!! Awesome job on this event I loved it so so much! <33

hi pr!!
ReplyDeleteAs always you guys make and put up such incredible decorations!! I really liked seeing all the red banners/lanterns around school, especially the ones on doors and windows. I really love how you all are advocating for more cultural events, and I think it's a nice way to light up the school. I think it's okay to celebrate late, but it might be nice to have like days to dress up, and maybe doing something even larger scale like a cultural fashion show/performances/traditional dances, etc. Other than that, great job!!

hi pr!!!
ReplyDeletei love how you guys started to incorporate the celebration of cultural holidays. i dont think the date of the event matters too much as long as it is relatively close to the actual holiday. i liked walking around and seeing the decorations around campus. i think a lot of people were confused on what was going on in the quad that week along with singing valentines and bittergrams. i think for promo having another dress up day would be good so people can visually see what is going on. also it would be super cool to do something with all the crafts people made. i liked making a lantern with my friends but i didnt know what to do with it after. people can also have the option to just keep it for themselves if they would like. if possible, i also think it would be better to do it during a week when there are not a lot of other events going on. i remember there was one day there were a few tables in the upper quad and people were confused what was going on since it was lunar new year + bittergrams sales. overall, amazing job with the event!!

hi pr!
ReplyDeletethank you for putting on such a cute lunar new year event! it really lit up campus and i'm sure our students really appreciated this. here's a couple of points regarding the event:
- collaborating with the cultural clubs was a great idea and the clubs could help you guys promote the event as well. this increases turnout!!
- i would recommend booking a tent along with the tables because the tent is really visible and helps draw attention.
- the decs were really cute haha i really liked the chunlian in front of the den. it's great that you invovled the teachers as well!
- hiding red packets around campus as a lil scavenger hunt could be really fun and i really wish we did the cultural dress up day since dressing up for diwali was a hit.
thank you for celebrating diversity on campus xx

Hi PR!
ReplyDeleteI think decs are always a great way to spice up the school during holidays. I think it being a week late is ok since for most people, it's the thought that counts. I think making more decs, that would be easy for pictures would make it more "accessible" to the students. I think it's always great to do these decs, but maybe increasing the level of promo will get people more excited. Nice job guys!

hello pr,
ReplyDeletethis year the doors decs and the lanterns were a nice touch. if possible, next year try to buy more lanterns because one lantern for every quad planter looked a little sparse. if you guys could try to implement lighting pieces to make the campus look nicer at night, that would be great but at the same time it isn't too big of a deal if this isn't possible. the lunch activities were pretty successful and good job reaching out to clubs! definitely do this event next year even if it's late, i think people enjoyed this.

Hey PR!!
ReplyDeleteLoved the decs and lunchtime activities!! As to the timing, I think that it's not a huge deal as long as it's within 1-2 weeks of the actual date. Also to further promo the activites during lunch, some music such as traditional Chinese and Japanese music from NCHS and NJHS could be cool. Also, similar to what y'all did for Diwali earlier this school year with an info post about the culture and holiday, it'd be cool if you could do that for Lunar New Year to further educate the community while also "hyping" up the events and activites at lunch. Great job PR!!

Hey PR!
ReplyDeleteGreat event and I loved the lunchtime activities!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really liked the paper decorations in the teacher windows I thought they were really cute and a nice way to bring a more modern vibe into chinese new year decs. For the lunchtime activities, I think participation was rather lacking. To remedy this, yall can look into an awareness event like pocky in the quad. Including food in your activities can be a great way to increase participation. Other than that great event!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hello pr!!
ReplyDeletei really enjoyed seeing all the decs after school and during lunch!! it was cool to see some students participating in the events as lunch and i thought it was cool to see decorations through the teachers windows. i think that getting some clubs to help out on this event could be cool for both the students and the clubs. along with that, i personally feel the timing was not too big of an issue but it could feel more "festive" if we did it a bit earlier next year. oh also idk if im living under a rock but i think we could potentially advertise a bit more for the crafts at lunch.... other than that, great job pr!!

hii pr!
ReplyDeletethe activities in the quad were really fun throughout the week. i think that you guys should continue to celebrate Lunar New Years even if its a week late because people will still appreciate their culture being shared/learning other cultures. Some general feedback for the event is that I think you should use a tent when doing activities in the quad because it draws more attention. I remember one day (possibly the lantern day) when there wasn't a large crowd. Overall, great job!
-Nina
HI PR!!
ReplyDeleteThe decs were sososo cute (especially the little door signs that was such a perfect touch) and it was also such a good idea that this event worked with different clubs on campus :)
I personally believe we should have some kind of event surrounding lunar new year as it's such a big culture on campus. To cater to more students PR could try handing out popular cultural snacks similar to the idea shreya had for diwali.
All in all, great job on lunar new year!!!
<3 stephanie
hi pr! lunar new year decs were SO pretty and such an amazing way to celebrate the culture!
ReplyDeletethis should definitely be continued and keeping the partnership w clubs because it's so great to see asb acknowledging the various groups on campus. perhaps having more interactive decs (backdrop, dress up day, etc) could cater better to our student body.
overall amazing idea and execution, pr!
<3 anika
hi, pr!
ReplyDeleteto bounce off of nina's idea to use a tent, i think that having a standing tent throughout the week that we decorate could also be really cute (for example, hanging lanterns from the frames, etc). we've had a lot of discussion about quality over quantity, and i think a centralized "stand" where students can see decs, get information, and participate in activities will seem like a more fleshed out event.

Hey PR
ReplyDeleteI loved the lunar new year decs! Compared to the winter decs, I thought there was good improvement! One thing I would suggest is handing on different lunar new year zodiacs. Ex. bunny related decs to celebrate the year of the rabbit! Overall Great job, loved the activies, and good job on collaborating with other groups!
- Seren
Hey PR
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the Lunar New Year decs this year! I really liked that you implemented clubs with the celebration to boost involvement with Lynbrook. I think that is something that you guys should continue to do in the following years. As for decs I think that they were super pretty and the placement was a large improvement from previous decs events. Overall great job this year!
manit
HI PR!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on Lunar New Year decs and activities!!!!! I absolutely loved the activities and I thought they were really cute and creative. I think it would be really cool if people could make crafts and then add them to decs around the school. For example, have a string of lanterns that people made as crafts in the quad or something so students can display their creations. Overall, I absolutely loved it and thank you pr :)
-Chloe
Hey PR! Great job with Lunar New Year decs. The campus looked really nice for the time the decs were up. Similar to the holiday decs, I think that it's worth considering finding a more centralized place that everyone goes to and just focus all the effort and decs in there. Focusing on those major areas could make the campus transformation a lot more evident and impactful, which I think is better than spreading out. Quality over quantity, yk? Besides that I really liked the decs, great job!

hi pr!
ReplyDeletegreat job with lunar new year decs. the campus looked (and still looks) really festive thanks to you guys. i think lunar new years decs hit close to home for many students and it's a nice way to recognize their culture. as someone who went around hanging the decorations, i noticed that some teachers just didn't realize this event was going on and would've otherwise signed up for the decorations so maybe having an opt out system or doing more promo to the teachers would be good. i also loved how you guys involved the chinese and japanese clubs on campus, overall great job!
-emma
I just had to give you a huge shoutout for the amazing Lunar New Year decs this year. Seriously, you all did a fantastic job! I absolutely loved how you incorporated various clubs into the celebration. It really boosted involvement and showcased the incredible talent we have at Lynbrook. I strongly believe that continuing this trend in the following years would be a fantastic idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sagar.
hey pr!!!
ReplyDeletei had so much fun at the lunar new year origami event omg. incredible event. truly. to weigh in on your questions:
1. obviously celebrating during the week of is preferred, but it's definitely not a big deal at all if we celebrate a week late. i think most students are happy just to have the opportunity to do fun activities and celebrate culture!
2. incorporating more freebies would encourage more people to participate i think. you could consider giving away white rabbit candies, or little chocolate coins, etc. ppl love free stuff!
overall it was a super adorable event!!! i loved it <3

Hey PR!
ReplyDeleteI think it is definitely okay to celebrate lunar new year a little late. It is better to provide recognition later than not at all! I loved learning about another culture's tradition and thank you all for giving me that experience.
In the upcoming PR video, I would recommend adding a segment about Lunar New Year and maybe a short interview segment where you ask students their favorite traditions or something new they learned.
Thanks, Esha
Hey Pr,
ReplyDeleteAs always, congrats on an amazing event and a successful celebration of the cultures on Lynbrook Campus. I think this event was a good idea, and would love to see it continued in the future. Even if the event is a few days late, it’s the thought that counts, especially since Chinese lunar new year is multiple days long to begin with. I liked the addition of lunchtime activities in the quad because it made the event feel more interactive. A suggestion I have to have even more student interaction is to have students dress up like it was done with diwali decs, with the incentive of Lynbrook app points. I know lots of families have cultural clothing that we’d love to pull out for school. Once again, good job PR!
- Chelsea
Hey PR!
ReplyDeleteAmazing job on this event! I heard a lot of rave reviews about it and people seemed to enjoy it as an event overall! I know that people felt that their culture was really appreciated and were truly appreciative of this event. I think in the future as some other people have said, a dress up element would be really nice and a super fun way to further celebrate the culture. Overall, amazing job!
- Kimaya
Hey PR!
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you guys started pushing towards more cultural themed events this year to make Lynbrook feel more homely for everyone. I think it's no worries that it was late, but in the future it would definitely be best if you guys could work out a way to hold the event during LNY because the actual holiday gives you a ~15 day window.
I also agree with Alli in the sense that it makes a lot of sense for you guys to hold the event in a more centralized area, but make it bigger; ironically, it makes the event more noticeable than if it is spread out across campus.
Great job! Regards,
-Jeff
hi pr-
ReplyDeleteI think decs often feel left in the backseat and a bit pointless for the amount of work put in, but lunar new year decs had just the opposite effect. I immediately noticed the red banners around the asb den on the first day it was put up, and I really do think that it is such a nice and festive touch. This sort of decs also serves to open up culture to people outside of the community, something that is pretty special to Lynbrook. Collaborating with other relevant clubs was a smart move as it only pushed the community feel even further.
Hi PR!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on Lunar New year decs :) I couldn't be prouder of PR having so many more new events this year :) Personally, I was confused by the door decs since it didn't scream Chinese new year to me, but once I got to the ASB den it was evident that it was lunar new year decs! I would try to incorporate those long red strips to more doors since I think that screams lunar new year! I might also consider doing calligraphy in the beginning and taking some of those scrapped work pieces and taping those to doors!
- Sophia <3
Hello ASB PR!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on lunar new year decs! I think that the red strip decorations on the door was an amazing touch. The ones on the office were espicially noticeable, and I think that it was really visible to the student population, and I think people enjoyed that. I think that you should continue to celebrate Lunar New Year even if it is one week late, as it still celebrates the event and honors the event!
Overall, SPECTACULAR JOB

Lunar New Year
ReplyDeleteHello PR,
Fun event as always, and thanks for all the volunteer hours. I believe that events like these are very fun for students and make school days just ever so much more fun and bearable. I do have some recommendations though:
In order to cater to more students, I believe that having a larger station/just a larger physical presence would be a good idea, for example this would include having a canopy, despite it being cloudy out. Students are geared/programmed to see things like that and think that it is an important event or that it is a thing to do.
I would also recommend organizing seating and table arrangements in a way that all the events would work together for their events. For example, just having a seating arrangement in a square shape with four different booths on each side. This way it seems as if a large event is happening, and more traffic will flow. It would attract much more attention and would be much less confusing for students compared to the scattered table set up that they had this year.
- Ivan
HEY PR!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with Lunar New Year. You guys have done a really good job with these brand new events this year and the increase in decorations. I think it is really important to celebrate culture at school and encourage people to learn about new cultures and even feel empowered over their own culture. I also really like how we reached out to different asian cultural organizations around campus, and I hope to see more ASB x student group collabs next year. I really liked the lunch time activities you guys had in the quad but think that maybe we can get more tables to make the event feel more big and attract more people to the area. Once again, great job PR.
