Spring Movie Night

Hey ASB!

Social just finished ASB Social! Here's a recap and ofc thank you to everyone who volunteered:

We learned:

  • Food: reduce overall prices and/or have larger signs underneath each table
  • Double check and confirm that facilities are updates and sent to the correct people
  • Remember to organize the tables/food items that same way they were placed in the project plan
  • We need to release more things at the same time (ex. PR vid goes out --> we should send a graphic out as well)

We did well:
  • People enjoyed it
  • Wings were pretty much sold out + volunteers for all shifts were efficent
  • Event ran smoothly
  • students seemed to enjoy the movie night
Here is the discussion question:
  • What are your thoughts on the pricing? Should we be adjusting prices during the event and do you think it was a good idea to change pricing when we thought it was needed?
Thanks for the feedback <#3

  1. Hi social!!
Great movie night that y'all were able to put on! As to the pricing, I think that generally the cost wasn't a huge issue. I personally thought that they were acutally reasonable. I'd instead suggest having "combo packs" with, for example, one bag of chips AND three candies, as I feel that that'd encourge students to purchase more. As to price changes in the event, I think it's fine to consider but it's definitely important to keep in mind that students may feel its unfair when one person bought it for a cheaper price just 10 minutes after another one. Also, more promo to bring money would be helpful as I feel that some people just weren't aware of what foods were being sold and the prices. And one last thing, in the future, I don't think there's a need for 3 people on popcorn during the event for one machine. Instead, during the setup there can be 3 to get things started, but having three people during the event was more than we needed imo. Great job social and I look forward to future events!!

i LOVED LOVED LOVED movie night! i actually worked the wings booth during the event and for the most part it worked out pretty well! i suggested the price change since i saw a lull in people buying wings, and i think it worked well at the end. i also think for pricing next time to price it in a way where students can buy by the unit - though it may be less profitable, it's more accessible!

this wasn't one of the points but i think next year we should definitely do a tech run through. we realized it's better to use a wired connection to the projector to reduce lag, and this was something we probably could have learned during a run through. for food pricing, maybe make the wings slightly cheaper since many students interested in them were discouraged by the price of 3 for 5. other than that, i think the event was not bad at all!

  4. hi social!!!!!!

movie night was so fun!! the movie choice was so cute and i loved the set up. although there were a lot more chairs than people, i think people appreciated having that option as sitting on the mats for too long can get a little uncomfortable. as far as food goes, i also do not think we should be changing the prices in the middle of the event. if needed, we can announce near the last 15-20 minutes of the event that prices have been reduced. i think the set up of the tables should be placed in a way that is more accessible. for example, the perishable items such as the wings should be at the front where everyone can see it. the candy/chips/soda/popcorn can be towards the end since those items can be saved if we do not sell out at the event. maybe you guys can also look into providing hot chocolate as a food item (free or paid) since it would fit the vibe. i remember it was pretty cold and a little rainy? so im sure people would enjoy having a warm drink. overall amazing job with movie night and i love how everything turned out!

  5. hi social,

I wasn't able to make it to the spring movie night, but I think that the movie choice was really good! I think that adjusting pricing during the even isn't always the best idea, because like Ms. Kirsh said it might not be very fair to those who bought the product for a higher price earlier in the event, so I think maybe in the future either buy less or sell for cheaper in general. Other than that great job! I heard it went really well.

  6. Hey social!

I didn't go to the movie night but i heard great things about it! For pricing, keeping the price consistent is good to keep people who already bought happy. Although in the end of the day, it is your duty to sell out and make sure we make a profit so lowering the price in the last 20 minutes is valid. For our fundraisers, we try to stick to the price until the very end when we hawk people down and beg them to buy it LOL but for you guys there should be enough people left in the cafe who are hungry to buy it at a lower price.

thanks for putting on such a fun event!! i really enjoyed movie night even though the movie made me bawl LMAOdjsnfaksjnfak. in terms of promotions, i think there could've been more hardcore promo about movie night, especially after the in-person promo not going to plan. however, this is definitely an unforeseen circumstance and some people didn't have internet access after the power outage. i think having paper fliers could increase the visibility of the event! also having a clear list of food items for sale on each graphic would be really helpful. again, it doesn't hurt to rub the promo in people's faces because they can forget!

this event was well executed and yall should be proud of yourselves!

good job on the movie night!! although there were some bumps along the way, i think yall still pulled through on putting on a fantastic event. i hope that next year, we use more reels for advertisement in general and think that it would be a great idea for you guys to do that as well. when working the wings stand, it seemed that everything went fairly smoothly and personally i like the idea of changing the price throughout to encourage more sales. but yeah... great work social!!

  9. hi sociall! spring movie night was SO fun and the movie choice was so good! the pricing of items was reasonable although i think we should reconsider selling candy or packaging it in bags for a set price because many people who came up to purchase kept trying to bargain the price of candy, and try to get one free since they are so small. adjusting the prices during events isn't smart since it sets a precedent that prices will always decrease at the end of asb events. we should instead try to just sell non-perishables so we can store them for future sales. great job social! the vibes were so good and i can't wait for next year!

spring movie night was super fun and cozy! i loved the food, movie, and overall vibe. i think the pricing for some items was a bit much when we started. for example, i believe it was $1/candy and $3/pack of 5 candy pieces. that is a pretty exorbitant amount considering the entire bag of candy was probably $20/120 pieces or so, and students could piece candy boxes 6x the size for only $2 at safeway. i think it was super smart to reduce the prices (as you did when the event started) - and $1/3 pieces seems like a fair amount to me! you could also sell candy + chips in a package deal (for ex: 1 bag of chips & 3 pieces of candy for $2, or 1 bag and 5 pieces for $3). i understand selling leftovers at the same prices so as to not inconvenience others who bought them at full price is good, but i also think that regardless of the inconvenience, the #1 goal should be to get "rid" of as much perishable food as possible and to not have any leftovers - whether this means reducing the price or giving food out for free to advisors/volunteers. overall, really great event and i loved it!!

  12. Hi Social!

It's great to hear that the event went well! Here are some discussion points based on your recap:

Pricing: It's good to see that people enjoyed the event, but it's always important to ensure that the prices are fair and reasonable for the items being sold. Adjusting prices during the event could be confusing for attendees and may lead to some dissatisfaction. It may be a good idea to have a pre-determined pricing strategy for future events to avoid any last-minute changes.

Table organization: Ensuring that tables are organized according to the project plan is crucial for the success of the event. Consider having a walkthrough with volunteers prior to the event to make sure everything is in the right place and set up properly.

Releasing content: Releasing multiple pieces of content at the same time could help generate more interest and excitement around the event. Consider staggering the release of content, such as videos and graphics, to keep people engaged and interested.

Thanks for the update and congratulations on a successful ASB Social!

Great to hear the event went well. I really liked the choice of movie this year and I think you should continue on the road of "oscar winners" and other classic movies as movie choices rather than just Disney movies. I think it's okay if you change the prices during the event to make sure that you sell out since it helps with sales and doesn't really hurt anybody. Overall incredible job this year!

  14. Hey Social

Glad that the event went well! I really liked the choice of the movie this year, if possible it would be nice to ask for the student suggestion for what movie they want during the planning process. Maybe just sending out a poll on the instagram account and provide some movie options for students to vote on. I think for some items the pricing should be in whole numbers, and for items that are too small like chips and soda, students aren't willing to buy it because of the small value with the big price. I think for these events definitely bring in the popular snacks like popcorn chicken or boba where you can charge for more. Overall incredible job this year!

  15. HI SOCIAL !!
Thank you for planning spring movie night! I was working the soda/chips station and I found that they didn’t sell that well. A lot of people thought these items were free, and were confused when only the popcorn was free. Maybe we can be more clear with this when we are promoting the event next time. Other than that, I loved the vibe and the movie choice. Great job social!

  16. Hi Social,

Unfortunately I was not able to go to this movie night, but looking at the notes you guys have made I have one suggestion to the discussion question. I think in order to gauge what would be an acceptable price, we should really just directly post a Q&A on an Instagram story to see what people who would most likely go to these movie nights (those following the Instagram page) would be ok with. Overall I heard it was a blast guys so good job.

  17. Hi social!!!

I loved the movie choice and I loved the foods available/the layout and I loved the vibes of everything so great job with movie night :))
I agree with the general majority going on that we should try not to change food pricings because it's unfair to the people who bought at the start of the event, but considering the situation and that the food was perishable I think adjusting the prices were fine.
I don't have much feedback to give as it was just a well rounded and cozy event! I would say that having some sort of voting poll for the movie choice in future years might be something to consider though! Great job social again!!

  18. Hello social, amazing job with movie night! Despite the technical issues, after it got started the movie night went on pretty well. I feel like the changing of food prices was not a good idea because then it just makes it bad for everyone who already bought the food. I think for these kinds of events where the focus is not the food but the event, the prices should be left lower than they normally would be, or else less people will buy them. I noticed lowering of prices happening a lot this year so it could be worth considering for events in the future. On top of this, pricing should just be better telegraphed in general, since a lot of people just didn't know that the popcorn was free. Great job with the event social!

great job on the spring movie night! i think the original food pricing was pretty good, since popcorn was offered for free and changing the price at the end might make people less motivated to buy food at future events. for perishables, it's kind of inevitable, but if there's a cushion in the budget, maybe consider giving extra food to staff and volunteers instead of lowering the price. otherwise, the even was super cozy and there were lots of good reviews. keep up the good work social!

loved spring movie night!! the original food pricing was good and that it should be kept throughout the entire event since lowering it is unfair to those who bought it earlier on with the full price. if the food is perishable, handing it out to the volunteers is a great idea to get rid of it. also, a lot of people kept coming up to the popcorn station and asking how much popcorn was, so i think the prices of the food need to be advertised better. overall though, spring movie night was a blast!

  21. Hey social,

This was an overall great event and I think the movie choice was excellent. I think maybe cutting the number of perishables sold might be smarter if your not completely sure it will sell out, because decreasing the price could leave people thinking its unfair.

    Thanks, Sagar.

  22. Hey Social!!

Movie Night was a total success and I had the best time. I would recommend having smaller items like sweet treats or small breads instead of more filling items like wings because most people come to movie night wanting popcorn rather than other meal like items. These heavier items may not sell well enough and end up leaving Social in debt.

Thanks for an amazing last movie night. This was my first event I planned in Social and it holds a special place in my heart <3 So happy to see Social continue to improve people's experiences.

    Best,

Congrats on yet another amazing event, this was so cozy and sweet. It really fits the vibe of a movie night at high school and I can’t wait for next year to do it all over again. Personally, I dont think there is a problem with reducing prices later on in the movie, because at that time ,the food is probably colder and would make sense for it to be slightly cheaper. And of course, the goal should always be getting rid of all perishable items, which is more important than turning a large profit. Good job social!

Amazing job with this movie night I really really enjoyed it (and cried to it too)! I think the food options, location, vibe, and just all the details overall were really amazing and well planned so amazing job on yet another successful event! I would say maybe one thing you guys can implement is creating polls on instagram to ask the student body what foods they want at the movie night just to get some more engagement from the community. Overall, amazing job social :)

  25. hi social-

Because of the nature of a movie night, it is an event that I feel like can be a hit or miss at lynbrook. Depending on the movie and turnout, the vibes could be completely different. I think spring movie night was a little underwhelming, but it felt generally fine- the movie started late but the choice was a hit, the turnout was okay, and the food was also okay. I don't know if there is much to expect for a movie night besides people showing up for the movie and watching it, but in terms of turnout I do think having more incentives could help. For example, having food items that are shown in the movie or a movie that is relevant to current events may help.

Great job on movie night! Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend but I wanted to give some input on changing prices mid event! I personally think that although it isn't favorable, it may sometimes be necessary. I would however also look into what money you have to potentially "lose" given that social now has a budget! I would make sure to not change the price drastically or frequently as it could create a cycle of people just waiting til the last minute to buy since they know that the price will go down. Only do it if it is absolutely necessary or once + make sure to announce it! Great job :)

super duper great job on the movie night :-) here's my feedback:
    1) WONDERFUL movie choice i luved watching it very much
    2) i think adjusting food prices is fine- their should be a priority / emphasis on selling out the food so social isn't taking a loss. instead of having food prices hang off from the tables (where it isn't really visible), food prices could have been written on the tables themselves // this also makes it easier to change the pricing later on

    overall super great event!

Absolutely amazing job on Spring Movie Night! I think that changing prices during the event is fine, as long as there is a noticeable difference in the product. For example, wings that have been sitting out for an hour will be colder so I think lowering prices for that is fine. However, for items that stay the same, such as candy, I think that keeping the prices the same would be more fair and wouldn't encourage students to not purchase things until the end to hope to get more items for their money.
    Overall, AMAZING JOB!

Though I was only at movie night for the last 10 minutes, I can talk a bit about movie nights in general and also the promotion going in. I think cozy events like this are really important, even as important as your larger events. The smaller events lead to more interactions with your friends, and those lead to more memories. So keep it up! In terms of promotion, I vaguely remember there being a lot of confusion over the location and the overall promo? I am unsure but lets make sure the promotion is really solid and we have some type of creative reel to accompany it. Overall, great job!
