Spring Egg Hunt

HEY ASB!

PR had just finished our Spring Egg Hunt Event from 4/3 to 4/7! We hid eggs around campus and prompted students to go hunting for eggs in exchange for candy.

General Timeline: 3/27 - 3/31: fill eggs with candy 3/31 or 4/3: plant 200 eggs + 10 golden eggs 4/3 - 4/6: every morning plant 50 eggs + 5 golden eggs

Key points of the event:

- people were excited about the egg hunt and they liked the candy reward

- most eggs were found which made clean up easier

- many eggs were hunted in the beginning of the day before school

- started around 470 eggs, ended up with 170 eggs

- students come to school early to find eggs

- people would take the candy inside eggs and replant empty shells

Discussion question: - How do we prevent people from coming at 7:30 in the morning and finding all the eggs and then hiding them with notes that say “no candy sorry”? - How do we get more people to return eggs since many people threw them in the trash can?

  1. Hi PR,

I really enjoyed the spring egg hunt. Despite placing the eggs, I didn't really find any, which probably means that many other students were able to find the eggs first. I think that this event is really fun. I think that it's kind of ok if students come in early in the morning to get eggs, since it's so hard to regulate, it might be easier to place the eggs during 4th period and in other intervals throughout the day/week, so it limits the amount of eggs that people can get in one certain time period. Other than that, great job!

  2. hi pr!!

spring egg hunt was a lot of fun! i like how you guys increased the amount of eggs this year but i think you should just not expect to get your eggs back. realistically, people wont hold on to their eggs just to return them and will probably just return them if they are near the asb den. i think you guys could have more egg collection boxes scattered around campus so they are more accessible. another idea to make sure you guys more of the eggs back is to have people return them in exchange for a prize. you guys could have ~3 different colors of eggs that are hidden around campus and people have to return one of each color to get a prize. the prize can be like a handful of candy or donuts or something inexpensive. a concern we had last year with this is that people would not feel motivated to do this and return them just to get their prize. now that i think about it, i dont think this will be a problem. we witnessed how much people want candy since they came to school super early for it so i think you guys can make the egg hunt harder if that makes sense. you guys can also make certain color combinations of eggs be worth different prizes if you have more/less of one color. cant wait to see how this event turns out next year!

  3. hi, pr!

although this would take away the immediate reward, asking students to redeem their eggs at the asb den during brunch/lunch would be a really good way to make sure that students not only bring eggs back so that we don't lose them/have to buy more but also that we avoid all the the problems listed with tampering. something you guys could consider for the future if you want to venture out from just candy is to also include a pot of rewards like spring themed erasers/stress toys that students can find/redeem their eggs for (depending on which system you use) so that candy isn't the only option, though it seems popular enough.

  4. HI pr,
Overall this event seemed very successful, a lot of people I knew were excited to go egg hunting during brunch and lunch. I honestly don't know if there's any way to prevent all the freshmen who come to school really early to get eggs, we just gotta respect the grind I guess. The event does seem pretty competitive, not sure if that's the vibe you were going for or if you wanted a more chill type of egg hunting week. In the future maybe coming to school early to plant eggs creates more opportunities for those who want to hunt during brunch and lunch, but then again it makes the locations less secret. However, given the engagement with this event, definitely try again next year!

  5. hii PR!

spring egg hunt was such a cute and fun event. i enjoyed searching for them and volunteering to hid the eggs. for the discussion questions, i think you guys can place note slips in the egg along with candy to tell people to return the shells. or, you guys could have a note in the egg to tell them to go to the den to pick up their prize. on the other discussion point, i think it's definitely hard to regulate when kids are coming to school to get eggs. this is tough on pr's part, but you guys could consider coming to school at around 8:00 every morning to hide them. other than that though, loved the event!!

  6. HI PR!!!
I absolutely loved spring egg hunt! I think this is a really popular event among students and it’s just fun to look for eggs during easter time. I think we should put more boxes around campus for people to return their eggs, like maybe near the trash cans so that people choose to put them in the box instead of the trash can…Also maybe on days where we have 4th-period asb in the morning, you guys can hide eggs during breakout instead of in the morning so people can hunt for eggs during brunch/lunch. Other than that, I think spring egg hunt went really well. Great job pr!

  8. Hey PR!!

Great job with this years spring egg hunt. I think the trolling that occurred at 7:30 is unfortunately a consequence of putting them out the night before. I think we either would need to put them around the school early in the morning or even put them in view of the cameras to maybe catch whoever doing it. Its unfortunate that something like that happened. For the issue of people throwing away eggs, maybe we should either give them an incentive to bring it back like a hint to next times hiding spots or something like that.

  9. Hi PR!!!

I loved the spring egg hunt hehe it's such a nice way to add some excitement and a small cute thing to look out for throughout the school day! For returning eggs, although it's true that expecting most of the shells back is pretty ambitious, it'll definitely help to just have more shell collecting bins scattered around AND include a slip of paper in each egg saying to return them. I think someone mentioned trading in the egg shell for another prize which is also something PR can consider. Also this might be a cute idea to get some teachers in on (similar to trick or treating?) where some willing teachers can also hide eggs in their classroom. Would require more logistics but just an idea? Overall amazing job and i loved egg hunting this year!!!

  10. Hey PR,
Nice job with the spring egg hunt! Honestly, there isn't a very good way at preventing people from taking them early in the morning, but you could possibly look into refilling eggs during 4th period. This will prevent more people from taking eggs as most people are either in class or they just aren't at school since they don't have a fourth. To encourage more people to bring their eggs, having more boxes or areas for students to do so would be helpful. For example, you could have some near the back (math wing), one near the field house/boys locker room, quad, etc. Otherwise, great job!

  11. Hi PR! Great job with the egg hunt! I think the eggs were well dispersed, some were found instantly but others remained undiscovered for a very long time. I found the whole idea really fun and it really added an extra layer of excitement to the campus. I think it could have been telegraphed better, as a lot of people didn't know it was happening (creative promo maybe? since it is a pretty big event involving the entire campus). I also think it shouldn't be put up before school, since many people who live close by have the advantage over those who have a longer commute to school and that allowed them to get most of the eggs before anyone even got to school. Overall though, it was a fun event that went pretty well so great job!

  12. hello pr!!
great work on the spring egg hunt and adding some festivity around campus!! agreeing with others, i really believe we gotta work on advertising and utilizing reels to get creative promo. i think it could be cool if we just dispersed them throughout the day. Like giving asb students 5 eggs to hide each period and that could be something fun but honestly that issue will be a tough one to fix :/. finally i think that we should have a bigger bin saying like "EMPTY SHELLS HERE" so it's kind of more obvious. otherwise, great work pr!!

  13. hi pr!

great job on the spring egg hunt, kids always love free candy events. there's not too much that can be done about kids coming early, if anything that shows how much they love the event, but planting more eggs throughout the day (brunch, 4th, lunch) might help with the problem. in terms of egg shells, not that many people knew they needed to return them, maybe having more boxes in multiple places around the school would be helpful (and big signs advertising them)

  14. Hi PR,

I enjoyed hiding the eggs and seeing people cash them in. Great event! I think that we can honestly just let some people find eggs early. So long as there are enough eggs and they are somewhat well hidden, the egg hunt will likely proceed throughout the day. We can also put notes in the eggs to return them to the den so less shells get thrown away. Good work.

  15. Hey pr,

I think the idea overall is super fun and was done well. I dont know exactly how to stop the finding eggs early unles you could possibly put out volunteer hours for someone to go early to school and make sure no one is stealing them.

    Anyways, Thank you- sagar.

  16. Hey PR,
To avoid people finding the eggs earlier than you all intended, I recommend hiding the eggs during 4th period instead. If you all plan the exact locations of the eggs in advance, it could be a task accomplished in five minutes as various commissioners quickly place them around campus during breakout. Overall, this was a cute and enjoyable event!

  17. hey PR!

    some thoughts:
    - i think you could distribute eggs around that time (7:30 am) so that people cant come that early to get them. also promoting the fact that egg hunting starts at 8:30, not earlier!
    - i think you could distribute more egg shell trash cans around campus so that people are more inclined to dispose of the plastic shells correctly.

    yayyy thanks PR!

  18. Heyy PR!
I thought this was such a fun idea and I know people really got into the spirit of the event so amazing job! I would say one thing you guys can do is hide the eggs at night so that people can't see where you have hid them while you are hiding them and pick them up right after. Overall, amazing job!

  19. hi pr-

I like the spring egg hunt as it is a fun activity for students on campus to do with their friends, but the purpose of it might want to be reconsidered. It feels a bit out of the way to do so much manual labor for an event that no student truly cares about. There is no external motivation to look for the eggs (other than sugar), and I think it is worth reevaluating the core of this event. Maybe it can be combined with another asb event or having more elaborate rules to the hunt. When the time comes around to put on this event in the coming year, I encourage the project leaders to first set out a clear "why" to the event, or change the event to something else entirely.

  20. hey pr!

amazing job this year with the spring egg hunt! everybody loved it so much. here are some responses for your discussion questions:

    - i think publicly announcing that we do have security cameras around campus could help this issue, so in promo you can state the rules and include that if anything of the sort happens this year there'll be consequences
    - this may be tedious, but potentially adding papers in the eggs that remind people to return them to the den could force people to return them rather than trash or keep them

    great job prr!!

  21. Hey PR!

Great event :) I definitely noticed a lot more eggs than the past few years! Unfortunately, I don't think that there is anything we can specifically do to prevent people from finding the eggs early in the morning, however, we can ask teachers to hide 3-5 eggs in their classroom. Therefore, the eggs will be distributed more evenly and we can ensure that they don't start until 7:30. As for returning eggs, you could possibly change the system to be: turn in the egg shell at lunch to receive candy instead of putting candy in the egg. However, this could be a lot of work! Nice job!

  22. hey pee-are!

super duper great event! i was a first-hand witness to students running around the campus at 8am trying to find eggs LMAO
    here's my feedback:
    1) along with filling the eggs with candy, perhaps you could add a small paper slip in each egg that says "please return me to rm.___!" it might incentivize more kids to return these eggs
    2) im not sure you can physically prevent kids from coming in at 7:30 in the morning, if anything it just means that they're more excited about the event :'-)
overall super great job! i loved this event

  23. Hi PR!
I really don't think there is a way that we can fully prevent people from coming early to get eggs, as long as we set them out. However, I agree with Esha in the sense that on days where we have 4th period, we can set them out then. On the other days, we can continue to set them out in the afternoons because there's not much we can do.

On the bright side, I think that the fact that people are coming early just to get eggs shows how popular this event is, so keep this up!!

  24. Hey PR,

I just wanted to say thank you for putting on such an engaging and fun event! It was so fun to be on the lookout for eggs all the time, and I was so proud whenever I found one. So, congrats!
For the discussion questions, I don’t think there’s really any way to prevent people from waking up early and taking the eggs, but PR should pat themselves on the back for being able to pull Lynbrook students up that early! Lol. However, to remedy this issue a bit, PR could have a few designated volunteers to replenish the eggs throughout the day, maybe during passing period, or other times. I think the bin was a good idea, but to encourage more returned egg shells, I think you should have a little note inside each egg telling students to do so. Once again, great job with this event!

Great job with spring egg hunt this year. I knew you guys put your all into this when I genuinely couldnt find any eggs and also overheard people complaining about them being actually well hidden. I think to help with the issue of people throwing away the shells, we can say that they get one extra piece of candy if they return it to the den. Anyways great job guys
