Student vs Teacher Charity Basketball Game (SVTCBG)
HEY ASB :)))))
Thank you so much to our amazing volunteers for helping and also to all the people who came out and watched the game!
We would love to hear your feedback on how the game went, promotion, donations/shoutouts, planning, and any other ideas you’d like to share with us!
Some information:
For promotion, we had a physical flier that was printed on wednesday, and distributed on wednesday and thursday.
We had one informational post that came out the Friday before the game, one story spam template on Wednesday the week of, and a hype video (big thank you to Mr. Bale, the goat) that came out the day before the game. Thank you to Shreya Somani (our idol) as well for grinding out all the PR!
We had a donation table in the gym, and every time somebody donated, the commentators gave them a shout out
We raised 104 dollars!
We had 11 students and 11 teachers playing during the game
The game started a few minutes later than anticipated, since we realized that our referee was out sick
That meant that the game had a 12 minute first half, we had a 2 minute halftime and a 5 minute power round for the second half.
Some questions to consider:
Is it worth it to keep this a charity event or should we just have it for the student experience next year?
Is there anything that we should have changed with the promotion schedule?
Should we open the teams up to people outside of the basketball team?
The reason we didn’t have non-basketball team people on this team was because people on the basketball team were already insured and had all paperwork filled out to be able to participate in a sport.
Hey Clink!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the SVTCBG!! I personally enjoyed the event so much and watching students and teachers get excited was amazing. For promotion, I think that it was fine other than maybe considering posting fliers a little bit earlier just so everyone around school knows about it? Also, you could consider using the social blackboard to promo the game even more (although it was already great attendance). In the future, if the game is pushed back, I would recommend checking the time and shortening each "half" so that the two halves are around the same time with 2 min halftime in between rather than keeping the first half long and speeding through the second. Also, in the future it could definitely be helpful to say something as to the lines of "this is your last chance to donate..." at the end of the games, as Alex and I went around in the end and quite some people donated some final bills. Great job Clink!!

ReplyDeleteamazing job on the student vs. teacher charity basketball game, I personally really enjoyed it and it was super entertaining. I think that having it be a charity event might be a little confusing, just because I think that the basketball game was emphasized more than the charity event, so I think in the future it might be better to just keep it separate, since people enjoy the game just by itself. other than that, great job!

Hey Clink!
ReplyDeletethe turnout to the event was amazing! the idea was really novel and it seems like it appealed to a lot of the student body. I think clink could have raised more if you guys sold something as a fundraiser. Students dont really feel compelled to donate and you guys mentioned, many students donated without a shoutout. I think in the future, selling food like mochidonuts for a high profit margin in the lobby when they are coming out will be a much better way to raise money. As seen in club food day, lynbrook students love to buy food and with such a big turnout, the amount of people who walked by would have garunteed a sell-out. Overall great event!

hello clink!!!!
ReplyDeletethis event was truly amazing. i love basketball and it was super fun to see both the players and the teachers battle it out. i'm not sure how effective the fliers were but i think the lil video mr bale made was super funny and its stuff like that, that will help bring students out. i think trying to sell something (for high profit) at the event would be helpful to raise more money. agreeing with others, i think you guys emphasized the basketball aspect and it being a charity event kind of got drowned out. i honestly think that something that could be fixed is more consistent timing cuz it did get a little confusing at the end. I truly loved the commentating and everything about this event so great work clink!!

hi clink,
ReplyDeletethis was honestly a really cool and hype event. despite people maybe forgetting it was for charity, I think the audience had a great time. in the future maybe make this an after school event so the game isnt rushed during lunch. that way the quarters can be longer, players and coaches can take their time, and there's more time to advertise and receive donations. I think combining the event with a charity cause is a good idea though so stick to that. also, although the basketball students are highly skilled and will most likely beat the teachers, it's just safer and honestly more entertaining for everyone to see them play, given that they do know what they're doing. looking forward to next year's version of this event!

hi clink!
ReplyDeletei thought the game was so so cool! i love how this event was truly unifying - even though it was students versus staff, everyone was such a good sport about it (actually can't attest to one of the sides) but it looks like literally everyone that went and participated enjoyed it! i think it was nice that it was at lunch since i think that was a huge factor that led to good turnout and even though it was tight on time, it was a good time! as for the charity aspect of the event, even though it was pretty successful, i think the incentive could be improved. it seemed pretty hard to make announcements during the game, and i think that students would want to donate more if they could see their money "come to fruition" (even though it realistically is for charity). great great great event!

hey clinkkk
ReplyDeletethe student vs teacher basketball charity was so much fun. as someone who watched, it was organized super well and the crowd was hyped up. after the event, there was a lot buzz about what had happened. overall, the event was a great way to unify the school especially between teachers and students. as for keeping this as a charity event, i think that you guys should. maybe, you guys could set up the jars in the lobby when people are coming in. this draws more attention to the donation aspect of the event. i still enjoyed the shoutouts throughout the actual basketball game (so maybe continue doing that as well). otherwise, such an amazing event!

hey, clink!
ReplyDeletethis event was really well received by the student body, so kudos to y'all for putting it together! i do think that this event is worth keeping as a charity event— in the future, if y'all have more time to plan, you can think about charging a small admission fee (something as small as $1 w/ asb and $2 without would still raise you around $200+). depending on the current events of the time, students will likely be willing to donate to a good cause (ie. raising money for ca wildfires or something close to home). if y'all are comfortable with it, we could open the event to families and the community as well! it might have been a blessing in disguise that we were not able to charge this year— people who might have been hesitant were able to attend the event for free, and now that it's a talked-about thing, people are likely to be more willing to go in future years!!

heyyy clink!
ReplyDeletethis event was SUCH a good idea! so many people were watching and cheering their teachers // friends on so amazing job coming up with such a fun idea and executing it so well! keeping it a charity event is good even though donations were a bit less, because numbers always rise as years go on and you can definitely think of a way to encourage more donations similar to the shoutout method. mr bale's promo video DEFINITELY got people excited for the game and the timing of lunch was also really smart to attract people to watch. overall promo was great. i think having a potential sign up to play for students could be implemented but seeing that the scores were pretty close i think keeping the bball team players is good too, especially because of the insurance. great job clink!! can't wait for next year
<3 anika
hi clink!!!
ReplyDeletei think we should definitely keep it as a charity event no matter how much money is raised. i think the amount of money that is donated will increase each year so $100+ this year is already a good start! i also think that since this was a new event people may not have been familiar with the idea of the charity aspect of it. a $104 raised is better than nothing so i think we should keep it how it is. this event also had super good attendance so it should be promising for future years! i think keeping the players on the basketball team is good, but also you guys could try and open it up to any athletes that are cleared for sports. im not sure if the insurance is valid for all sports or just the sport they play, but if it is valid for all sports that could definitely also be interesting! this was such a cool new event and i am glad you guys were able to put it on. great job!!!

Hey Clink!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the charity game! Although I wasn't there, I heard a lot of good things about it! To answer your question, I think we could keep it a charity but it must be emphasized a lot that it is one. I talked to many of my friends and classmates and most did not even know it was a charity (they all thought it was just a basketball game). I would also suggest having students outside of the basketball team. This is to promote the event more. For example, if you had a person from each sports team play in the game, then all the sports teams would come to support their rep! Overall, it was a great game to watch! Great job <3

Hi Clink! It sounds like the game was a success, and congratulations on raising $104 for charity. Here are my thoughts on the questions you posed:
ReplyDeleteCharity event: It's great that you were able to raise money for charity, and it's up to your team to decide whether or not to keep it as a charity event. If you do decide to keep it as a charity event, you could consider choosing a different charity each year to keep things fresh and encourage continued support.
Promotion: It sounds like you had a good mix of physical and digital promotion, but you could consider adding more digital content leading up to the event, such as social media posts or email blasts. Additionally, consider promoting the event to a wider audience, such as alumni or parents, to encourage more support and donations.
Team composition: It's understandable why you limited the teams to basketball players due to insurance and paperwork concerns. However, you could consider having separate teams for basketball players and non-basketball players, or creating a separate tournament for non-basketball players.
Overall, it sounds like you did a great job with the event and should continue to build on its success for future years. Keep up the good work!
Claire
HELLO CLINK!! hi hi hey there
ReplyDeletesvtcbg was such a blast and i had so much fun watching it! you guys are my real idols 😘💘💘
here are my responses!
1. i like the idea of it being a charity event, and i think it's a great way to raise money, but we should probably brainstorm different ways of doing so. i know the shoutouts thing was a last-minute clutch idea from me + chelsea and it worked in the moment, but with more planning next year, it could definitely be more incorporated with the actual event as the shoutouts were a bit randomly dispersed. some ideas include buying small tokens/gifts for the players (students & teachers), giving out mini "freebies" (not really free lol) to those who donate, etc. i understand that an entrance fee cannot be charged as the event is during school hours, but if you plan on moving it back to after school, even charging $0.50 or $1.00 should raise a handsome amount of money.
2. definitely doing earlier promotion & getting the flyers out sooner...😁😁. if possible, including mr. bale's hype video in the pr video of that month (this would need extensive planning though and could probably only be done if the event was in the first week of a new month).
3. having students from the basketball team worked great as they were skilled and it was logistically easier for you all.
just an amazing event, there was so much turnout, and it was fantastic!
love yall

Hi clink!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved the basketball game because it was an awesome way to get the teachers involved with various student activities. Now knowing how popular this event was and the turnout from the students. I think you guys can have a few more of these charity events throughout the years. Like mentioned in class, teachers can compete with students through rally games or even another type of sport game. I think its good having the charity event there so at least theres a purpose for the event and an incentive for students to attend the event. Overall, amazing job on the event!!

hey clink!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the INSANE turnout at the basketball game, I had so much fun watching! I think this event should definitely continue in the future, especially with different sports (PLEASE SWIMMING). Due to the turnout, I think that students would definitely enjoy this multiple times throughout the year, and making it a charity event is basically the cherry on top :) Overall, amazing event and I can't wait for more next year!!

Hey clink!
ReplyDeleteWow guys, what an event!! This is some of the best turnout for a non rally event we've seen in a while. So many people loved it and I think it was a great idea. I think that due to the popularity of this event it should continue to be a charity event, both because I think it did incentivize people to come and just the number of people made the amount of money raised higher. I also think we should still keep it as the basketball team for the student team, since I think it acted as a way of giving the team love and it made it easier to have a preset amount of people to pick out.

Hi clink!!
ReplyDeleteI'm genuinely so impressed by all the new and creative events you guys were able to introduce this year, this one being one of them. The turnout was amazing and it was a great way to involve teachers in asb events!!!! I don't think it being a charity event or not is too big of a choice as either works well. The only thing I would say is if it is a charity event (or in the future different sports are used and only some are/one is) to be sure to emphasize the charity side of it. Also to put the jars voting for teacher vs student and the jars for announcements to be at the front of the gym or maybe even in the lobby. The area where it was was just hard to reach and easy to overlook. Promo was great (especially the teacher video) and overall amazing job!!

hallo clink!
ReplyDeletethank you for being so innovative and hosting such a fun event! the lunch timing was great and a lot of students from various demographics enjoyed it. ive never seen both gym bleachers pulled out for a sports event and it's incredible that it happened bc of asb!
a couple more notes:
- combining a large turn-out event with something for charity is a great idea. i think promoting the charity beforehand (kind of like what people did for coinwars would be great).
- basketball team: it's smart to just go with people who are already on sports because the student athletes are also being recognized. i would recommend ensuring a more equal representation of grades for the students, so that people can cheer on students from their own grade.
- the no food in the gym policy during lunch was the slight inconvenience as students had to finish eating in the lobby. starting the game late actually worked well because it gave people time to eat/get food from the lunch line. mrs jackson was really helpful with setting up the tv in the lobby so that people could watch -> make sure to communicate/request that next time!
excited to see what clink can put out next year!
xx

Hello clink! Great job with this event, it was such a fun experience and there was a lot of energy from everyone. This was another amazing new event that I really want to see coming back. I think maybe doing different games each year or even just doing a more olympic style thing with different sports and medals, making it a whole thing. I wasn't able to go so I don't have a lot to say besides that, but this has a lot of potential and was such an amazing idea. Great job you guys.

hi clink!
ReplyDeletegreat job on this event! i unfortunately could not attend this event but i remember playing in it 3 years ago and it was really fun. if you guys didn't get too many donations, it might be worth just making this an entertaining event, since students would love it either way, and clink has so much going on all the time.
-emma
hi clink!!!
ReplyDeleteloved this event!! i think we should definitely keep it as a charity event, since it doesn't hurt to just have some jars out for people to donate. plus it helps some people get more volunteer hours. i think it is a cute idea to have other play that aren't from the basketball team, but of course if that's too much work just keep it to people who play basketball or people who play a sport in school since the forms are filled out too. also for the donation table, i think that it might have been a little hard to see so having it out in the lobby may make it easier. overall, the event was so much fun to watch.
- carrie
Hi clink,
ReplyDeletethis event was super duper fun. I loved the energy the whole game brought and also the amount of engagement is crazy I think maybe charging 1 dollar per person to enter is a good idea because it is still very afforable and guarantees the charity is able to gain subsstance.
Thanks, Sagar.
hey clink!!!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness this event was so fun. i personally had a ton of fun watching the game, and this was such a good idea. let me give my 2 cents on some of the questions:
- it's definitely difficult to monetize a basketball game for charity besides charging admission (lower attendance) or selling food (not allowed in gym, plus its lunch and ppl have food alr). the shoutouts were a good idea, but i feel like there's not a big culture/audience for that at lynbrook. maybe you could charge $1 admission? but other than that, i think it might be a good idea to just make it fun, and not a charity event.
- mista bale's video was great, it would be even better if you added a teacher promo video trash talking the students or something to the promo schedule! it could be super funny.
great job ballers,
kyrsten
Hi Clink!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED THIS EVENT!!! The bleachers were packed with so many excited students and the student unity was something beautiful to see. I think you guys can add a sign in the gym lobby to ask students to get their wallets out to donate. Clink commissioners can also walk up and down the bleachers and ask students for any donations, similar to how Cheer walks the bleachers for cookie sales. This can help push more students to pay!
I hope you guys continue this event because it was so fun to see!
Best,
Esha
hi clink-
ReplyDeleteI thought this event was one the most successful events that asb's put out in a while. The gym was packed full and it was super fun to watch grown adults be competitive with high schoolers. This is an event that should definitely be brought back next year. I was super impressed by how the fundraising was for the earthquake as it seemed to be an immediate response. This aspect should definitely be kept as it feels like a genuine reaction to a cause, making people actually care.
Hey Clink!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on a WHOLE new event! Super proud :) I think that this event was super successful & word of mouth was really good promo! Some other ways that you could possibly promo it is by having a joint post with the basketball team to reach more people and also have the teachers who are playing promo it to their class! I think that a good way to encourage more donations would be to sell small pins/goodies that show support for a certain side! I also think charging a low fee for the game would be good (like one dollar). That would make you more than $104 and you could add another jar for them to vote with money on who's going to win!
Best,
Sophia <3
hi clunk!
ReplyDeletesuper great job on this event! i attended the event myself, and i dont think ive ever laughed that hard in a while LOL
anyway here's my feedback:
1) having the charity event be focused on shout-outs during the game felt really overwhelming. especially since the commentators & audience are already focused on the game, having shout-outs out of no where felt really distracting
2) instead this event SHOULD be charity-backed, but the format of how money is collected for the charity itself should be reconstructed. ex/ having $1-$2 entry fees in front of the gym, or having snack-sellers go up and down the bleachers during the game (like an actual basketball game!)
3) game itself could have been a bit more structured, with better time distribution
4) i prefer only having individuals on the basketball team play at this event, since it makes the event more entertaining, and having an influx of signups would make it difficult for you all to choose who gets to play and who doesn't
overall great job! i hope we have this event again next year
-mapl
Wsgoodie clinkies!
ReplyDeleteAs someone who was involved in the planning of this event, I'm super happy with the way it turned out, AMAZING JOB!! It was such a fun event and a great way for the whole school to bond.
1. I think keeping this a charity event is good because it is so popular, however I agree with the people above that we should charge an entry fee to the game. I definitely believe that most students are willing to pay that $1 to see their peers and teachers play.
2. Promotion was great! Obviously on the student end of things it would've been awesome to have the student response to Mistabale's video, but at the end of the day, Shrey's graphics and Bale's video did what was needed.
3. My opinion is to keep it with the basketball team. When we open it up for randoms to play, not only will there be a lot of people signing up, the audience that is watching the game will think "i could've done a better job than them" if one of the student players messes up, which could create a negative atmosphere. Plus, I think it's funnier when we get to see some bloopers from people who typically do stuff that no one else in the school can do (Harsha missing the dunk).
I def def hope we continue this event next year (and possibly with other sports too)!
- Jeff
ANOTHER NEW EVENT BANGER BY CLINK! Great job guys, the charity basketball game was really good. As a commentator, I want to quickly talk about the shoutout process. I think it was really difficult for me and Gio, as there was truly no good time to announce it because both us and the crowd were focusing on the actual game at play and we wanted to go interview the players during the game. I think that we should charge an entrance fee, and maybe even sell some silly signed posters of the teachers in their basketball gear or something. I also agree with the idea someone suggested of having people go up and down the bleachers selling food. Overall, if we want to keep the shoutouts, we should look into a more organized structure of promoting it during the game and also announcing it, because it was really difficult this time. Apart from that, I truly enjoyed this event and look forward to hearing about it in the future.
ReplyDelete-satvik
Hello Community Link,
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I don’t watch or play basketball, but these events were so much fun to watch. I loved the MCs, props to Gio and Satvik. I, however, have some recommendations:
I believe that for the charity event, it would be best to have more down time and longer match times in order to help the charity aspect of the event further. Also, thinking about more options for people to donate would be cool as well, for example making people in Clink go on stage and do an action or sm?
As for whether or not you should open up the teams, I believe that keeping it to just the basketball team would be best as it would be better to focus either on the game and promotional aspect of the event or the charity aspect of the event, depending on the answer to the question from before.
