InDesign Fashion Show

 Hey ASB!

InDesign Fashion Show ended last week, and we would love to thank all of our volunteers and advisors for making this possible. Here is an overview of the event/what ASB helped with:

  • Promotion/Ticket sales
    • In person blackboards, Pandora's box in the quad, Instagram posts + reels, Schoology blast
  • Rehearsal day (Thursday 5/18)
  • Day of (Friday 5/19)
    • Food:
      • Strawberry jam cookies
      • Popcorn chicken
      • Macarons
      • Soda
      • Free popcorn
    • Volunteers helped backstage + set up + clean up
For the discussion points:
  • Due to AP testing, morning announcements were not available and InDesign is a "new" event for a lot of students. What are some other ways of creative promo to increase participation and growth for the future?
  • For InDesign, Social experimented with new foods such as strawberry jam cookies. Are there any other foods we should provide in the future?
  • Leftover popcorn chicken was given out to volunteers/InDesign members who cleaned up. Are there any other ways to dispose of extras?
If you have any other feedback, please feel free to comment it as well!

  1. Hey Social!!

The indesign fashion show went so well, great job! I volunteered for setup, food shifts during the show, and cleanup; the entire process was smooth and there weren't any hiccups. As for the discussion points, if morning announcements are unavailable, promotion could be done through emailing teachers and having them tell their students about the show. Being the first fashion show in four years, I thought the participation turnout was impressive.

    Great job!

  2. Hi Social!
LOVED indesign fashion show! For creative promo, having either ASB students or indesign members wear items that are out of the ordinary but relating to the theme of the fashion show could help attract attention towards the event. For example, for greed, you could have students wear something as simple as sunglasses with dollar signs drawn on the lens. Also, depending on the budget, you could go for something a little more large scale such as a possible red carpet at the front of school during the week leading up to Friday for the show. Something so big is noticeable and it also relates nicely to the theme. For leftover popcorn chicken, I think giving it to volunteers is fine since I can't think of something better. In the future, it could be helpful to look into lowering prices and maximizing a profit margin. For example, if lowering prices would allow you to sell more and earn more, it may be worth lowering the prices. Otherwise, great job social!!

I wasn't able to be there unfortunately but I heard that the fashion show was a hit and that people really really enjoyed attending it! I think since it hasn't been done in-person for so many years you guys had your work cut out for you with the PR aspect of it but I still thought it was super well promoted and I definitely think that people spread the word around so amazing job with that! Maybe next year you guys can think of another creative promo method to promote it that's a bit more large scale because the Pandora's box idea was great but I think that the Quad is so hectic that I didn't end up seeing it so some other people must not have as well. Overall, amazing job social :)

  4. Hi social!
I LOVED INDESIGN FASHION SHOW it was so amazing to see all the designs and performances and the flow of the show was just so smooth and well-planned. I know many people who enjoyed it and look forward to future shows, so great job!! An idea for promo is releasing a trailer showcasing the theme and some of the designs, or putting mannequins out on display with some look that matches the theme maybe? I know the indesign video during Covid year had a trailer I'm pretty sure and it was really cool to watch. As for the popcorn chicken, I personally think handing them out to volunteers at the end was a nice way to deal with the leftovers so I wouldn't really change that. Changing the price last minute would be unfair to people who bought at the beginning imo.
Overall amazing job and I'm so excited for social events next year!!

  5. Hi Social!

Indesign was a really great! The turnout was great, and the show and the performances flowed well. One thing that I would suggest is ordering no/less food or planning for a shorter show so that we will definitely be able to sell food. I think this would have avoided the extra food that we had to give out for free at the end. I think the way we did ticket sales was pretty smart and we should keep selling before the event and at the door. Great work on the event!

I LOVED INDESIGN FASHION SHOW! Although I can't say much about how the volunteering or check-in process was, the entire process went incredibly smoothly for the models. We had lots of helpers at all times for the changing and always had people checking in on us and helping us get in line on time. Especially for a show that hasn’t happened in four years, there were basically no hiccups and the entire thing went smoothly! I’m so proud of everyone who was involved in making this event a reality. Good Job Social!

  7. hi, social!

the indesign fashion show was such a good event, and it was really inspiring to see how hard you all worked on it! in the past, indesign has filmed a lot of creative promo videos that really seemed to bring the event to life on screen— i'm wondering if this would be possible for the future? on terms of food, i think if we don't want to have an intermission, cutting down on options would definitely be the way to go. instead of having to worry about too many stations, only a simple line for boba and popcorn chicken (which should be advertised, because i'm not sure i saw too much promo about food) should be kept so that volunteers are not spread too thin and that the attention is more focused on the show.

    sincerely,

  8. hey social-

Indesign was an event I was really looking forward to last year and I'm very happy that I finally got to see it one year later. I thought the show was absolutely fantastic- the models were well-rehearsed, people were enjoying the food, and the performers were entertaining. One thing that I do think should be changed/added is designer recognition. While there was a shoutout to the designers at the end of the show, the designers seemed to take a backseat though it is their pieces that are the true star of the show. I think even just calling out their names as they walk out could make it easier for the audience to recognize the designers that made the piece.

the indesign fashion show was so well executed, amazing job planning such a successful after 4 years! here's my feedback based on working food. we didn't get many sales on the cookies (or much sales at all in general). chips and sodas are storable but since the cookies may not be, we should definitely consider removing them for next year. not sure how popcorn was but if that didn't get much attention either, perhaps removing all food could be considered, or opening food up to class fundraisers so the burden is off social. the stage set up and seating were really good, i think something pr and spirit can work on next year is hyping up the crowd since it was the first year doing this after 4 years, so people weren't really accustomed to cheering just yet. overall amazing job social, can't wait for next year:)

unfortunately, i wasnt able to attend the indesign fashion show but it looked like a blast, and i heard many people had a lot of fun. for promo wise, cute little video would be nice to hype everyone up for it. i think the way you guys disposed the extra food is perfectly reasonable especially since all the volunteers worked so hard, and getting back something in return will make them feel appreciated. also having caf art is super cute too and i think we should bring it back to promo events. wish i was able to attend but im super excited to see the next one.

Great job on the first fashion show in four years, it definitely isn't easy to pull off :). I unfortunately wasn't able to see how food was doing, but I loved the show itself. I think that something you can do with leftover food is also offer it to various adults that helped us out, or lower the prices. As for promo, we could've done a teaser video of the different outfits, or a small show at lunch with old pieces to garner hype. Hopefully promo becomes easier in the following years, but keeping it a little mysterious would help prompt curiosity. Overall, it was definitely a really well put together show that seemed really professional!

super great job @ the indesign fashion show! i wasn't able to volunteer at the show, but i attended as a model. the flow of the whole show went very smoothly as well! here is my feedback:
    1) the creative promo idea with the box in the quad was interesting, but i feel like most people just walked by it without knowing what the box was specifically for. having a note next to the box or some type of QR code would allow the box to be actually beneficial for the show's PR. additionally, since this show hasn't happened in a really long time, i felt like the PR should have been more targeted towards underclassmen. for instance- having models dress up to school in their outfits on a random school day, or posting reels that give a sneak peak of the outfits.
    2) new yummy food ideas: samosas, cake pops, mini cupcakes, churros, spring rolls, dumplings, (strawberry) lemonade, nachos, elote
    3) overall super duper great job! this might not be completely in social's control, but potentially having the fashion show be in the auditorium next year? this might be better for lighting & seating (especially since the sun's glare was so harsh on the audience)

  13. hi social!
first off I just wanted to say thanks for letting breakdance club perform in this event! from the performer perspective, the rehearsal was a little chaotic (that's okay though since new tech was still learning). using the cafeteria as a dressing room was a good move and a great way to relax from the heat. also, I really loved the pandora's box in the middle of the quad - it was a really cool and mysterious form of promo that got a lot of my friends talking (it also deterred the spikeball kids). thanks for putting this amazing event together!

Absolutely amazing job on indesign!! I think some ways of creative promo are having models dress up on school days (ex. what we did for winter formal). This will gather attention, and people will ask about why they are dressed up, and they can respond "indesign fashion show, etc.". I think a way to dispose of extra food is to give it to staff members on campus, such as the supervising staff and the custodial staff.

    Overall, great job!

Amazing job on the first in-person Indesign fashion show in four years! I loved all of the creative promo that you guys did throughout the week. I think for the pandoras box it would have been better if you guys put more decorations on the box itself. As for volunteering, there were too many boys backstage helpers since they did not need any help getting dressed. Overall great job on this event. I cant wait for next years socials events!

  16. hey social and asb members in indesign,
amazing job with the first ever in person indesign fashion show in four years. I am really proud of you guys for pulling it off and giving me the opportunity to experience one before I graduate LOL. I think since we didn't have access to announcements, we really need to lean into creative promo. The box was really creative, but I feel like it could've been pushed more and been more in people's faces. One idea I had was you guys could post a promo vid where you break one outfit down and how it was made. Kind of seeing the behind the scenes and see the process from buying the fabric to wearing it on the stage. Just an idea but great job with this event guys.

thank you so much for working with indesign to put on the fashion show! it wouldn't be possible without your work!

    here's a couple of points:
    - it would be great if social could pick up more of the performer logistics in the future: e.g. communicating when they should checkin, what their staging looks like
    - promotions: the reels were really fun, and theyre a new form of promo! honestly having some posters up around campus, even the handmade ones could help
    - extra food: giving that to custodial staff would be really sweet, especially since they do a lot to help us setup! the strawberry jam cookies were really cute, and you. can also look into cream puffs. another note about food: buying less and having some light snacks should be better because people eat dinner before long evening events.

can't wait to see future shows!

  18. Hey social,

Really nice event!! I really enjoyed watching the show, and the event was very on time and I think even ahead of schedule so really good job on that. Overall, I think the volunteer orientation meeting was a really good idea. It was a great way to sort out all the conflict in shifts. However, one thing that can be improved is the food. I think the problem of not selling out was mainly because I think we didn't promote the food enough on socials, many people didn't even know that indesign fashion show had food. Also, the popcorn chicken wasn't distributed evenly among the containers and some have significantly more than others. People were looking and choosing which was a bit unprofessional on our end. This is in addition to the coldness of the chicken. In the future, we can invest in some type of food warmer and keep all the chicken in a big container and then use grabbers tongs to distribute the chicken which will be warm and it will be professional. Something like the food heater 2025 used for the corn dogs. I also think that in the future, instead of spreading out the food tables, condensing them would be helpful because the cashbox was on one table. but otherwise good job social!

Awesome job on the Indesign Fashion show, everyone loved the entirety of the event. I think there was a perfect amount of promotion for ticket sales, whether it be online or in person. The black board that was put in between the classes helped a lot because I saw many students stopping to read what it was about so definitely keep using that for further promotions. As for the food, I think there should be an emphasis on the promotion that there will be food at the event and it will be charged (so bring money). In addition to that, the leftover food might be cause of the price of the food. Some students aren't willing to buy a small bag of chips and drink for a dollar, so maybe think about adjusting the price if possible? It's something to keep in mind, because I've noticed a lot students not willing to buy it because they think they're money isn't worth what they're getting, thus causing the left over supply of food. Other than that, the event was amazing and wonderful job!
