Taking it Downtown Spirit Week & Welcome Back Rally

 WHATS GOOD ASB! 🥳

First off, thank you guys all so much for helping out with Welcome Back Rally, we love u and it wouldn’t have been possible without you guys!!! We hope you all enjoyed the first gym rally in almost 3 years.

Here’s a recap of the past week:
Monday: Metro Monday (streetwear)
Tuesday: Celebrity Hills Tuesday
Wednesday: Wealthy Wednesday (semi formal/formal)
Thursday: Tropical Thursday + rally setup
Friday: WELCOME BACK RALLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYY

We would really appreciate any feedback you guys have concerning any aspect of the week. Here are some points for discussion:
  • We implemented the “Add your own” story sticker, but is there any way for us to encourage more spirit week participation? (Backdrop for pics, BTS?)
  • Last week, each spirit day coincided with a specific city. Should we have our spirit days stick to the general theme or try experimenting with more unique and fun spirit days? (Ex: frat boy day, dress as your type, etc...)
  • How can we further encourage people to submit their outfits on the Lynbrook App?
  • How could the actual structure and script of the rally be improved? Should there be more interaction between sports teams, classes, etc...
  • Did any aspect of the rally feel too fast? Too slow?

Thank you for taking your time to fill out this blogger! We are really proud about Welcome Back Rally but we hope to continue to improve as the year goes on :)

  1. HELLO ASB SPIRIT
Amazing amazing amazing job with the welcome back rally!!! It was my (and 3/4 of the school's) first indoor rally, and you guys absolutely killed it. In my opinion, everything was really well paced and the lights off during the alma mater was magical. One of the differences between indoor and outdoor rallies that I loved the most was the introductory video in the beginning that was the perfect segue to the script. However, I did notice that the rally video that is usually posted on the ASB youtube was not there this year, and it might be nice to keep that for people who might not know what the rallies are all about.
For more spirit, I have heard many complaints about the app being difficult to use and people feeling embarrassed to enter photos of themselves, but I feel that advertising the prizes would encourage more people to enter. Whether it be posting the winners or the prizes, seeing people win prizes makes victory seem that much more achievable.
    Great job spirit!!

  2. Hi Spirit!
Great job on the rally and the spirit week, I saw a ton of spirit and you all did super well in the rally and getting everyone super hyped. Especially as the first in gym rally in a long time, it was really nice to go back. For the spirit week, I personally found the celebrity day really difficult to think up an idea for, and I also think that the other spirit days have been used before, so I think it would be nice to switch it up a little more and do something different from past years, but overall it was really nice to see a lot of people dress up. As for the rally itself, I think that it went really smoothly, also setup and rally runthrough, but I do feel like there was a little bit of spirit lacking from the underclassmen/general confusion. Although many upperclassmen did help which was great, I think it's good to maybe teach them how to do things and encourage their class to participate more, and now that they have a class office, to make sure that they get up to speed and given the support they need. Also I notice that throughout the week Epic posts a lot of the spirit day outfits, and I think that it would be great if the ASB instagram could implement posting stories/posts of people wearing spirit wear as well. I know there was a sticker tag where people could post themselves, but it might be nice to have a more centralized place and maybe each day PR can make a little "picture frame" that people hold while taking photos of their spirit day outfits. Other than that, great job on the spirit week/rally!

  3. Hi Spirit!
As a freshman who just went to their first rally, I think Spirit did an amazing job! I had so much fun dressing up for spirit week and deciding on my outfits. The rally itself was super hype – the freshmen were missing a little spirit – but it was still a great experience. A few things that Spirit could consider is helping out the freshmen a little bit. We did not know how rallies worked and were caught a bit by surprise with things like the singing. I also know that a lot of freshmen were confused on how to scan the QR code to get points for the rally and didn’t know where to find it. All in all, I had a lot of fun!

  4. Sup Spirit!
You guys had so much energy that I did not expect despite our long rehearsals and as soon as the bell rang for the rally I knew it was going to be hype. Spirit week went well but I noticed that participation was limited to mainly ASB students. In a lot of my classes it was just me and a few others who had dressed up, but despite that it was still fun. As a part of tech the rally ran smoothly and swiftly, so great job on that. We had no problems at all and everyone seemed like they were having a great time. I will say that it was a little bit of a struggle having to run in at the end to shout, "this is tech" so next time I'd prefer that you guys just shout us out and point to the speaker area or something. Other than that, I'm looking forward to the next rally, great work!

  5. Hello Spirit!!
The past week of the rally and spirit week was super fun and I enjoyed it a lot. For spirit week, I think that advertising the Instagram stickers as well as trying to advertise inputting images of your spirited outfits in the app could possibly increase the amount of people participating. I think that this may have been mentioned in class, but a cool universal spot (similar to recognition's spot where polaroid's were taken) could be cool and may get more people to post to the Instagram sticker. For the rally, I think everything went very well and it was cool to see how excited and hyped y'all were. Overall, you guys did a great job and I'm looking forward to the next spirit week!

  6. Hey spirit!!
Great job on spirit week!! It was so much fun and the rally was so well done especially for the first gym rally in three years. A little comment I have is that I overheard a lot of people talking about how they didn't really think metro Monday was a spirit day especially since a lot of people wear graphic tees, cargo pants, layered jewelry, and sneakers on a daily basis. Overall though, you guys did a really good job. Can't wait for the next spirit week.

  7. HI SPIRIT!!!

What a start to the year guys. I am really proud of you guys for such a great performance on Friday, and I think it shows a precedent of great rallies in the future. I personally think the rally was performed amazingly and the main area of improvement was more in the promo/spirit days leading up to the rally. As some others have said, I feel like many people didn't participate in the spirit days because of the vagueness of the days. Monday and Tuesday specifically felt really vague, to the point where it discouraged people from participating. I had many people who didn't really know how to volunteer on Tuesday due to the fact that celebrities kinda just wear normal clothing? On Monday the main issue was the fact that most people already wear streetwear type clothing and the people that usually don't prolly wont have any on hand. I think in order to get more submissions of outfits on the lynbrook app, there needs to be a higher amount of promotion for the lynbrook app then there already is. At this point people just kinda dont know how to use it, and it would be interesting to revamp promo for the app to give it a new flair for people to have an incentive to download it. Overall guys great job and I think I can speak for all of tech when I say it was a blast working with yall. To a great year!

  8. Hi Spirit! It was epic to see y'all pop off during spirit weeks and the rally. I loved the vibe of the rally and the energy y'all had throughout the week. For the rally themes, I think we could have made it more of a direct connection to each city, especially with the title of the Wednesday theme which seemed a bit detached from any of the cities. Additionally, I think that we might have wanted to improve the bubble rally game, as the freshmen v. seniors round may not have been particularly advisable in hindsight given the size of the two competitors. I really liked the hoop game, and I think games which include more than one volunteer from each class are always fun! Finally, the script and execution of it at the rally was really clean, but if we could make a little more time for "you wish you were a senior hooha" that would be hype! :)

  9. HEY SPIRIT!

This was such an amazing spirit week. I really enjoyed the "add you own sticker" on Instagram, and I felt like it did showcase Lynbrook's spirit on social media pretty well. However, the participation with the sticker was mostly ASB students. This may be due to the fact that it is the first spirit week where this has been implemented, so maybe after a couple more spirit weeks, the participation school-wide could increase (but this should probably be observed). For the actual days, I think although unique ideas are fun for people who are super into spirit, it is hard for people in general to dress up for, such as the "dress up as a celebrity day" for this spirit week. Having a mix of basic and unique days would probably be a good combo though. On the backdrop idea, I think it's definitely going to take time to create, but it also adds an incentive for students to take pictures and post online + they get cute pictures ;) As for the rally, from an audience perspective it was super entertaining and fun. The energy was really high in the gym and much more interactive. The script was also really well written. Overall great job and I'm so excited for the next rally + spirit week !!!

  10. Hi Spirittt

GOOD JOB ON THE RALLY!! It was fire fr and the spirit week was rlly fun to dress up for. The spirit week could have had more participation from the general student body, but it is the first spirit week so people will dress up as the school year progresses. As for the rally, it's been so long since we had an indoor rally and you guys made it amazing. The energy was rlly there, but just as a suggestion, maybe different sports teams could plan with another to make it more integrated instead of just one cluster coming and doing their own thing. Thanks for an amazing week :>>

  11. Heyyyy Spirit!

First off, I LOVEDDD the spirit week and the rally, they were really amazingly executed and you all did an amazing job! I think for the “add your own” story sticker, you guys can use a format where its like "spirit week bingo," or maybe something that you can tag people in so that you can encourage more participation. I think having photo taking stations is also a good idea, you can put up big posters around campus that people can take photos with or maybe keep some props around campus, etc. I also wanted to say that I loved the indoor element of the rally, most of the underclassmen haven't experienced an indoor rally, including me, and I just think that the space is a much better fit for rallies, so I hope you guys can continue having them indoors! Overall, amazing job!

  12. hi spirit!!

i think adding the sticker for each spirit day on the instagram was a super cool idea and it was fun seeing everyone post their outfits. some ways to get more non asb people to post with the sticker are to do story chains or something similar. we could maybe have a generic graphic for each day that says "post your metro monday fits" and then have space at the bottom to tag three friends. i remember a few asb events in the past did this a good portion of students participated in posting. i do believe more unique/new spirit days would encourage people to participate and try something new. someone mentioned in class how having an incentive system would be a good thing for having people submit on the lynbrook app. people would encourage each other to submit their photos so their class could have a higher chance of winning. people may feel discouraged to submit since you have to get 300 points or so to receive a prize. smaller prizes in between would probably increase participation. overal, this spirit week was super fun and im excited for the next one!

  13. HEY SPIRIT!!
this being my first rally, i thought it was a blast. although the freshmen were still a little shy, it was awesome seeing the enthusiasm of other classes!!
i think that most of the dress-up days were simple and easy for us to follow, but there was some confusion on the difference between Tuesday and Wednesday (as celebrities were considered wealthy), and not a lot of people dressed up for the latter (it was a little difficult). there was also some confusion at the actual rally because we weren't quite sure what to do. for example, for the hula hoop game, there was a LOT of cheering from upperclassmen and no one could hear the instructions = we had no idea what to do lol. but overall, i think it was really awesome and a great experience for everyone!

  14. Heyyy!!
First of all, I just want to say that as a first ever rally it was definitely super cool and such an amazing experience, especially seeing all the upperclassmen being really hyped. For the spirit week more specifically, I really liked the general theme of it of taking it downtown. I do think that for a few of the days such as Metro Monday it'd be nice to have a more specific theme or expectation as some classmates and teachers weren't really sure with what to wear. Rather for days like Wednesday with formal wear, it was fairly clear with what was expected. For the rally, in general, super fun experience with all the cheering and games. In the future, it'd be nice to have a little more guidance for the freshman, as we honestly didn't know what to really do or expect. Some of the audio couldn't be heard too clearly due to the loud cheering and instructions or other directions for what was going on couldn't be heard (at least from my spot). Generally, just more guidance for freshman to know what to do would be great since tbh most of us were just sitting, not knowing to stand up. Otherwise, super great experience and as a way of welcoming us back to school!!

  15. Hey Spirit! Great job on the rally and spirit week this year! I really enjoyed the great variety of games that you guys chose and the well organized performances for the rally! I think the Instagram stickers for spirit week was a great idea which I think helped encourage others to participate in spirit week. I think one suggestion I have would be to provide specific examples of each day; for example, in addition to the normal suggestions given on the Instagram posts, maybe have a document with pictures of a sample outfit (using images from google) so people know what to wear. Overall, super job on spirit week and welcome back rally!

  16. Heyy spirit!!
Awesome job on the rally and on spirit week! Being back in the gym again really reminded me of rallies when I was a freshman and I loved how hype it was! The “add you sticker” idea for instagram stories was very clever and like mentioned before you guys can definitely ask PR to make a story graphic that asks to tag three other friends to repost their fits for the day. During the rally, it might be kinda fun to have sports teams come up and compete with each other for games. It can just be the games that each class plays instead of having an opportunity or even one round for the sports team to participate would be pretty fun. Adding onto something about the app, like mentioned previously again I think it would be better to raise up the points per participation that way students are actually motivated to participate as they see the number go up. Overall, spirit week was legendary especially the rally and I can’t wait for the next one!!

  17. Hi Spirit!!
Congrats on your first spirit week and rally of the year! I had so much fun at the rally, especially since it was in the gym this time. I feel like Celebrity Hills Tuesday was a little difficult to recognize since people can dress up as any celebrity they want, even though it wasn’t always easy to tell who was who. Also when clink was distributing masks, something I noticed was that the people who weren’t wearing masks did not take our free masks, but the people who were wearing masks accepted our offers of free masks. I think they probably wanted to keep the masks for future use, especially since we were handing out kn95 masks, which aren’t cheap. I don’t think that’s an issue that we can fix but just wanted to put it down as a note lol. Anyways, thank you for organizing such a successful event!!!

  18. Hi Spirit,
Right off the bat, I would like to say nice job with this Spirit Week. First spirit week of the year and it was already such a blast. Some feedback though for the Spirit Week. It would be cool if there were previews for the Spirit Week for example in the week before? For example, some of Spirit or maybe even ASB could be showcasing examples of what to wear in the week after or there would be a post on it beforehand. This way people would be more comfortable with wearing more crazy outfits, and it would help people get ideas on how to dress up. Something else that helps with exposure would be things like banners, backdrops, and decorations. These will help people get the vibes of the Spirit Week as well as physically see changes in campus -> perhaps inspiring them to dress or take more photos to post. I see this being done a lot at other schools so it would be cool if we did it too. I think the rally went really well expect for the video's audio in the beginning and the echo in the gym. Great job and good luck on the next rally!

  19. Hey Spirit!
Great job on the first spirit week and rally of this year! I think you guys did an amazing job bringing rallies back to the gym. Something you could improve on is finding a way to quiet people down before showing the video because it was harder to hear what you guys were saying during it. In addition I think that we should hand out cheaper masks because people were taking them for the reason that they were expensive rather than actually using the masks. Something else I noticed was that people were less into dressing up for the spirit week because they knew that it was a competition between classes. Overall I think you guys did an amazing job and I am excited for the next one!

  20. hey, spirit!

as i mentioned during class discussion, rec would love to help with photobooths/polaroids to drum up hype on each dress-up day. one suggestion for the days themselves is to think of "single item" dress-up days (ie. monochrome monday where someone can wear all one color) that people can easily partake in (or maybe even participate in accidentally) while creating a "blackout" effect on campus that makes it obvious there's a spirit day (on celebrity day, for example, a lot of people were dressed up and you couldn't tell). as for encouraging participation on the app, could we perhaps do a class submission competition with a winner announced at the rally? since we're doing more non-competitive rallies this year, it might be motivating to add a small competition aspect, and the prize could be something simple (ie. a bag of candy to each freshman lit class/sophomore world class/junior history class/senior econ/gopo class).

    sincerely,
    allison

  21. Hi goats...
As I expected, the was a blast! It was dumb litty that you guys were able to pull off a gym rally despite being new spirit commissioners in a completely new gym environment. The rally video idea was ABSOLUTE FLAMES and the timing of each performance/highlight was perfect as well. I do think in the future one thing that you guys could emphasize is that people shouldn't bring their backpacks to the rally (could also bring this up to COs). All it sorta does is take up space for other people, and as seen in the freshman sophomore and junior classes, the people who wear their backpacks generally end up not being as engaged as others (which is okay! but it could possibly garner more engagement if they are able to stand up and cheer).

My one lil comment about spirit week is sorta reiterating what I mentioned in class during the outro, I feel like more people would be inclined to post to the Lynbrook App if the amount of submissions was taken into account and the winners would be announced during the rally.

    Hoco up next 😤

  22. hey spirit IM SORRY THIS IS SO LATE but seeing as your next rally isn't for a little bit, i thought this still might be helpful!

first off, the themes were good. people just like to complain 😊. i particularly liked the formal one; themes that are more extravagant are generally more popular than ones that look like normal clothes, for example streetwear.

next, the rally was amazing. you all killed it. being memorized just set the bar that much higher. on the other hand, some of the games (the bubble one) were unfairly matched, and while that isn't your guys' fault, it was something that threw me off. maybe you could speak with class presidents beforehand about what the games are going to be, so they can look for volunteers. or maybe have games that involve less... physical...ness, such as the hula hoop tossing one.

i agree with jeff that the outfit app submissions would be more attractive if they were incorporated into the rally. maybe even projecting the coolest ones?

in general, great rally you guys!!!

  23. HEY SPIRIT!!

YAYY FOR OUR FIRST INDOOR RALLY! y'all absolutely killed it after 3 years without having experienced one. here are some things that from a class office perspective could've been improved:

    1. excusal times: this didn't end up becoming too much of a problem since we were able to use the last extra hour (8PM-9PM) the night before to figure out how to make up for lost time the next day. the CPs also received a lot of support from the other class members which was greatly appreciated so thank you for organizing that. the issue was with the delay of informing the COs about not being excused from classes at all. i think if this decision had been made earlier it would've reduced a lot of the stress on us.
    2. discussion of rally logistics: since a lot of rules were newly implemented this year we weren't as aware of them as well as didn't have as much of a say in them as we normally would during ASCC meetings for example so i think having a classwide CO + spirit meeting to discuss the new implementations for rallies would be helpful in setting the scene for the year.

some things i thought you guys did so well for your first commission rally:
    1. organization: the rally guidebook was extremely clear and we were able to easily access it for all our questions
    2. support: we felt extremely supported throughout the process. our concerns were addressed and you guys were able to garner support from the rest of the ASB class to help set up go smoothly

overall you guys had an amazing first rally of the year and i can't wait for the future ones!

  24. Hey spirit!

Thank you so much for putting this incredible week together. The welcome back rally was so much fun, and I especially loved how supportive spirit and the entire ASB was towards the freshmen. I also really loved how the freshmen were provided with supplies coming into set up, so they could start working right away. In regards to the rally itself, the noncompetitive aspect was really nice because it allowed classes to focus on supporting each other and making it a good experience rather than just trying to get the highest ranking possible. The only thing was when announcing the game rankings, some people thought it was the actual rally rankings and were a bit confused. Maybe future game rankings can be announced like “In first place for the XYZ game is…” Other than that, great job spirit, and I can’t wait for more spirit weeks!

  25. Hey Spirit!

This was such a great rally! I liked how all the classes supported each other during rally set up. I think one thing we could do is actually announce that we are doing the sticker ahead of time so students know and can take pictures early on! Overall, I think it was well done, just make sure to show examples so everyone knows exactly what to wear or do during games or spirit days!
