Hoco Rec Party
HI ASB!!!
Rec just finished Hoco Rec Party after school on 10/28 and would love to hear your feedback:
An overview of the event is that all HOCO heads, C/O's, tech, class advisors, and any individual participants CP's believed to make homecoming a success for their class were invited to join us after school in the cafeteria. They were provided free food/snacks/drinks while the homecoming videos from each class were playing. The food we got were 10 boxes of Costco pizza (7 cheese + 3 pepperoni), a variety of 80-90 individually packaged chips, 80-90 cans of various soda, and various flavors of cookies. We did have some leftover food but it was not an insane amount. There was more soda leftover than anything else and some people were able to get seconds on pizza.
Discussion Points:
- Are there any other types of food you would like to see at future hoco rec parties? (aside from the usual pizza, cookie, and chips)
- A few people who were not invited to the party tagged along with their friends for the food, how should we avoid this in the future? (we did not have any type of system to check in/verify who was entering)
- Not everyone responds to the RSVP form but still show up, how should we better estimate the amount of food we'll need?
Feel free to leave feedback on any of the discussion points or on anything else you think we could improve (especially for the people who attended the party)!
THANK YOU GUYS <<33

hey rec!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the hoco rec party! For the food, honestly I thought it was fine as pizza, cookie and chips are something that the general public enjoys. For the people that tagged along, you could either have a check-in station or have people say their names when getting food. Also a side note, one of our planters heads started telling everyone about this event, though it was really only the people that got invited, so next time maybe just highlight and make it super clear that this is only for those that got invited. To estimate the food needed, I would acutally just go off of the total people invited. Most people seem to be free after school and should be able to come, which solves the issues of the RSVP form.
-- great job, amy :)
Hey Rec!
ReplyDeleteI’ve heard great things about the Hoco Rec Party! It seemed like it was really fun for all the invitees. A few pieces of feedback I have is that Rec could consider having a check in booth and make it seem really formal so that people who aren’t invited don’t enter by accident. I think the food options of pizza, chips, and soda are great and universally liked, so that is fine! Rec could consider donuts in the future because that is pretty cheap in bulk as a dessert option. Overall, great job rec and I’m sure everyone had lots of fun!

hi rec!!
ReplyDeletegreat job on the rec party, i loved how it was a nice low key event to recognize those who were involved in homecoming. for the problem about checking people, i think they did have that in the past where someone is at the door and checks their name, but i almost like that its more open, and it does take a while if it is checking one by one. I know that usually the homecoming skit videos are played on the big screen projector, but I think it would be cute to also include photos from homecoming in a slideshow (like in junior prom) so that it maybe feels even more personal. other than that, amazing job!!

Hey rec,
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I couldn't go to rec party because of heeheehoohoo flu season, but from what I heard it was a really good, chill event that people enjoyed, not just for the food but also for the socialization. I think the best way to make sure that only invited people come to the party is by having some sort of admin stay at the front with some sort of whitelist. It could be as simple as showing their asb card. Overall great job and thanks for having an event to recognize the ppl who made hoco special.

Hi rec!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for planning the rec party!! I think in the future, we can add water bottles to the drinks list because soda and cookies clash. Also if we can place an order for the pizzas a few days in advance instead of calling on the day of the event, I think it would have worked out better. When I called in, Costco said they had a big order at 2 pm, so I had to pick up the pizzas at 1:30. As a result, by the time the event started, the pizzas weren’t hot anymore. I think the only way to avoid having random people who weren’t invited show up to the party is to have a guest list and check people in at the beginning of the event. Anyways, good job rec :)

hi rec!
ReplyDeletei went to hoco rec party for the first (and last) time and it was amazeballs! i loved watching the skits bc all of us were rlly hype and the food selection (minus the diet sodas) was great! really no negative feedback other than that, and i really like that we included non-heads this year because at the party, the more, the merrier!

Hi rec!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the rec party and I think that it was a really well executed event! I liked the food choices and enjoyed the cozy vibe. The one thing I'd focus on is starting the hoco videos earlier to show off all the class performances. Great work!

hey rec!
ReplyDeleteHoco rec party was so much fun to attend. The variety of food choices was so nice and being able to watch the hoco skits with everyone was lot's of fun. In the future, however, I think that people should only be able to enter the cafeteria from one door (kinda like a bar) and just have a "bouncer" let people in. For the RSVP problem, I think sending more reminders on different apps such as having COs send them to messenger chats, etc. would be a much better way of promoting the form since maybe not everyone remembers to check their email. Overall, great event and I can't wait for next years!

Hey rec, great job on the rec party. I wasn't there, but from what I heard it was really well executed and people had fun. I think in the future, letting people in should be more streamlined (maybe having someone to check everyone who enters to see if they're invited) just for the sake of not having uninvited people and needing more than initially expected. Either way, it worked out and I think yall did a great job!

Hey Rec!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for putting on such a fun rec party. It was so heartwarming to rewatch our skits while eating yummy food. A couple things to consider for next year:
1) Extending the party to 90 minutes so there’s time to watch all 4 skits
2) Having some extra slots for ppl who helped a lot but weren't heads
Great job rec!

hi rec :-)
ReplyDeletethank you so much for putting on the rec party. as someone that was a hoco head, it felt really nice and i know many other hoco-involved students appreciated it as well! here are some suggestions & improvements:
1) have someone checking in just hoco heads / COs at the front door. after around an hour, ANYONE who was involved in hoco should be let in! (to get rid of the leftover food as well...)
2) im sure a lot of the people attending have probably watched the hoco vids several times already, and they can do it on their own when they go home anyway. given that the hoco rec party is a chance where SO MANY hoco heads are together, you could have a segment @ the beginning where hoco heads / COs shoutout heads & appreciative messages for each other.
3) the food selection was amazing, no complaints
4) given that many people don't respond to the rsvp every year anyway (plus the hoco burnout and people just being behind on emails), i would just use previous year's project plans to project how much food you need next time

hey rec!!
ReplyDeletegreat job at the hoco rec party! many hoco heads appreciated this event as they were able to get together and catch up after hoco was over! i wonder if there can be some way to encourage heads from different classes to interact with each other? the food options were more diverse so everyone enjoyed that! is it possible to get some grapes or cut fruit in the future? i think it would be less heavy as well.
in terms of RSVP form, you can contact the CPs so they can send the RSVP form directly to the hoco heads groupchat. this way, students can receive info directly in case they missed your email in their school email. to make sure that people who are coming into the cafeteria are hoco heads, you can have a checkin system near the door and have some asb volunteers keep track/do a head count.
overall i think it's a really sweet event and thank you for putting this on for our hoco heads
- sarah ^_^
hey rec :)
ReplyDeletei wasn't able to attend the hoco rec party unfortunately! but i talked to my friends who volunteered for the event or were invited as guests and i heard many good things about the food choice. i remember in your outro in class, you asked how you could better integrate guests from the different classes. i think it would be a good idea to organize people by skit/boys dance/girls dance/coed. that way, they all have something in common to talk about and it also mixes the classes together. also, potentially adding an activity? such as jackbox or a kahoot.
thanks for all the hard work you put into this!

hey rec!!
ReplyDeletethank you for hosting a hoco rec party this year! While I was not able to attend, I think it is extremely important to recognize those vital to the success of homecoming. As for the issue for people joining the party without an invitation, I think that you could set up a check-in system at the door and just have someone check everyone before entering. Additionally, to estimate the food, I think you can just go off the RSVP form responses, and maybe add on a little extra. Great job!
- Alex
hello rec again...
ReplyDeletei appreciate the extra efforts to recognize those who participated in homecoming. although, similar to the others i was not able to attend but it sounds like it was a lot of fun :). i agree that a check in system could get rid of some of the clutter and think that maybe mixing up seating could help get others to get each other well. otherwise from the sounds of it, yall did a great job....
-colin
hey Rec
ReplyDeleteI love that you guys are putting in extra effort into recognizing all of the people who worked so hard for Homecoming this year. In order to expand the event to more people other than skit/dance/decs heads you can let CO's choose one or two people each who they think did a lot of work for homecoming and invite them as well. I did not attend the event but I heard that everyone loved the food and had a great time!
-manit
Hey Rec!
ReplyDeleteI think that this event seemed great and I heard that it went really well! In the future, I am not sure if you guys already do this, but maybe you can get little pastries or small cute desserts, I think those would have a really elevated feel to them while also being super delicious! I think that over-ordering is better than ordering less and you guys can always hand out some of the extras to clubs on campus or any after school activities!
Overall amazing job!
- Kimaya
hey rec!
ReplyDeletethe event ran really smoothly! everybody enjoyed the food and the videos that played while we ate. especially with hoco burnout, getting people to rsvp to the event is definitely difficult but maybe using numbers from this year and previous years as to how many people show up to estimate food could help. also having a check in at the door would really regulate who gets the food and who doesn't. seeing that there were leftovers it doesn't look like that big of a deal, but the money going into this event is for the invitees only so regulating who comes in would solve this issue. it would also allow us to emphasize the importance of rsvp-ing. overall, everyone enjoyed the event, so great job rec!

hey rec!
ReplyDeletegreat job on the hoco rec party. i'm sure a lot of the people who have poured hours into homecoming greatly appreciate this event and the effort you guys put into it. for the food choices i think keeping it as pizza, chips, cookies sounds fine because in general people enjoy it. as for finding a way to estimate money, you guys can base it off of previous years or buy the number of food as if everyone would come. i think leftovers aren't too big of a problem if you want to hand it out to staff, facilities, if people want to bring it home with them, etc. overall, great job!!
- nina
Hi Rec!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on Hoco rec party! I think that ordering a bit more food would never hurt! Some more food ideas would be: fruits, cupcakes, charcuterie board, jello, salad, chocolate dipped things?, and more! I think that a way to regulate who comes in is just to allow only one entrance and have someone be a welcomer who knows the attendees. Hopefully just by seeing that, people are less enticed to follow their friend in or have their friend come with them. Another way could be notifying attendees that RSVPing will be checked at the door, that way the attendees RSVP, and they know that they can't bring their friends. Great job!
- Sophia :)
Hey rec!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on Hoco Rec! I enjoyed my time and can say the same for a lot of my fellow heads, so thank you guys for putting on such a lovely event for us. Some comments:
-I think the only way to combat the RSVP problem is to overbuy food, because its always better to have excess than to have a shortage.
-Just to share my thoughts on the invite list for next year, I think it also makes sense that CPs should be able to invite maybe 3-5 other people who they felt were deserving of attending the rec party, since I know at least for 2024, there were a couple of people who put so much work into backdrop/decs but because they weren't heads or court, did not get recognition at all.
-Another topic that I'd like to comment on is the hoco videos that got played during the event. I think its a great idea, but after playing the senior and junior vids, time hit 4:30, and myself and some others felt bad for standing and leaving during the sophomore vid. Maybe next year, you could play only the winning vid and then the winning video from the previous year (in our case 2022), because it'll be cool to see how the winning classes stack up against each other.
Just my thoughts :)
-Jeff
Hey Rec!
ReplyDeleteThank you guys for putting on the hoco rec party! It is really awesome that you guys make sure that those who worked the hardest for hoco are recognized. One thing that should be noted, early decisions for apps were in two days after the event, making a lot of the seniors who worked a lot on their class's hoco to not go. I know that this isn't something that has an easy fix, and at the end of the day, any sort of appreciation is appreciated.
-Erin :)
Hallo Rec
ReplyDeleteyay hoco rec party! As for food you guys could include cultural party foods (tacos, samosas, sushi?), but i think the usual party foods like pizza, chips, etc. work really well since it comes in bulk amounts and you guys can find it anywhere and it's relatively cheap. Great job on this event!!
Claire
hiii rec
ReplyDeletei think it would be cute to make the rec party kind of like sports banquets where ppl share encouraging messages and thank others for their help! maybe thats smth rec would like to implement next year :)) ty guys for recognizing hard work students at lynbrook!
- esha
hey rec,
ReplyDeleteI didn't get the chance to go because I got rsv from hoco dance but from what i've heard people enjoyed the food and the chance to socialize. I think it would be nice to have icebreaker activities so people make new friends and don't hang out in cliques? That could hopefully solve the issue of class segregation i've heard. But overall great event i would want to attend next year!
-hao
Hey rec!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with hoco rec party. I think for verification, you guys should go full-scale social mode and have a table and a verification system. At the end of the day, this is something we are spending our money and we need to make sure there is actually enough food for the main people we are trying to appreciate. Also, I noticed that people just group up by class and stay apart from each other. Maybe think about different ways you can encourage members of different classes to interact with each other! Looking forward to your guys next event
Hello Rec,
ReplyDeleteI love this event and it's concept, and I don't see much issue with the event. However, it would be great to get some appreciation for the hard working in other manners as well. For example, having a montage of funny moments/of certain cool moments quickly put together and showcased, or a official and longer montage that includes people's statements of appreciation or even interviews with people after homecoming asking about things that they liked a lot. This could be recycled in the future as promotion for homecoming performances in the future as well.
