Homecoming Dance
Hey-SB! HOCO WEEK IS OVER π€π€ and we would like to thank everyone for volunteering at the Hoco Dance on 10/22! We would also like to shout out Ms. Kirsh, Mrs. Salazar, Mr. C Wong, and all of the awesome staff who helped make this event possible! As usual with any social event, we would love to hear your feedback on how it went!
Drop some knowledge on any of the followingπ
PROMOTION/TICKET SALES
We ended up selling around 680 tickets, had a guest list of 700+ including volunteers
Sold ~60 on day 1, 100 on day 2, 380 on day 3, 120 on day 4
Had to extend until day 4 because we couldn’t get through the day 3 line
A total of ~650 people ended up showing up to the dance
Thoughts on promotion? Were your friends aware of ticket sales happening prior to the last day?
What can we do in the future to evenly spread out ticket sales and not have an overflow of ticket sales on one single day?
FOOD:
We served brownies, ice cream, chips, fruits, and drinks
What were your thoughts on the food/what was your favorite and least favorite?
DJ/Songs:
Song choice/potential bangers for WF (more of what genre, song, etc)!
PHOTOBOOTH:
143photobooths for open air photobooth/backdrop
What were your thoughts/feedback on the backdrop?
ACTIVITIES
Typical activities (giant jenga, double shot, cornhole)
iCelebrate Events for inflatable activities (football/baseball)
What were your thoughts on the activities provided? (Fun, not enough, etc.)
In the future, what activities would you like to see at social events?
DECOR
Was the decor noticeable in the cafeteria? What worked well/can be improved for WF?
VOLUNTEERS
30-ish volunteers, thank you to everyone!!
In the future, what could we do to make sure that all volunteers are present for their shifts at all times, especially if the project leads are also busy with jobs and cannot monitor?

ReplyDeleteAMAZINGGG job on the hoco dance! You guys worked super hard and it all paid off! Everybody I know kept talking about how amazing the dance was and I really enjoyed being at it as well! I think for next year, maybe we can have multiple photo booths to reduce the large line for them. I would also say, for the DJ, next year maybe you guys could play more pop/upbeat songs because they are a bit easier to dance to. Overall, amazing job :)))

Hi Social,
ReplyDeleteReally nice hoco dance that y'all were able to put on -- lots of people came and many people told me that they enjoyed it a lot :) I think that promotion was generally super good and most of my friends were all hyped about it (for them the reason they got it later in the week was because they didn't remember to bring money). I'm not sure if this would work out well but you can consider pre-order forms where people have their name and other info down already and all they need to do is come drop off their money. That way, you can have a seperate line that just go throughs the dropped off money fairly quickly. For the food, maybe get more water in the future as LOTS of people came up to me and asked for water but we ran out. I liked the food options as they were cute and related to each class's theme. One thing I'd recommend is changing the placement of the photobooth. The line was extremely long (40min ish wait) and the entrance was blocked by the long line. It was a bit inconvinient to have people pushing their way in and out of the cafeteria. Otherwise, super nice event!!

hi social!
ReplyDeletesuper SUPER great job on hoco dance, i overall had an amazing experience as both a volunteer and attendee :) i thought pr was good, but in the future i think it's worth trying out creative promo (something like the day we wore formal clothes to school was good) as the sales window was pretty small.
food was good! i thought that it was super cute themed, but i'd suggest "over-" buying next time? i think it's better to have a little too much that we can just give off to hoco-goers/in the den as snacks? food for thought (haha pun)
for music, i think it's worth surveying students for popular songs - it's nice respecting individual students' tastes, but for big events it makes sense to play generic but upbeat and recognizable music
i thought the photobooth was so cute! but i didnt get any and i know people who spent a majority of the dance in the photobooth line :( maybe we could invest in multiple next time/create a more streamlined line system for it
i thought the activities were cool! i saw a few kids cycle through them, but i didnt personally experience them; good as is!
decor was nice! perhaps store lights in a way that doesnt tangle them as much T-T
for volunteers, maybe have backups/assign monitors? i think emphasizing the severity of showing up may still not be 100% effective, so maybe going about it in a more defensive way could be worth a shot
THANKS FOR READING MY LONG REVIEW <3 u guys :D

Hi social,
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the hoco dance!! The attendance was incredible and I think it was a really fun event to wrap up the week of Homecoming. I think the concept for the food was really nice, such as the mocktails, but from a volunteering perspective it was a little bit of a nightmare because of how long it took to make them vs. how many people wanted them. I think at some points it was a bit stressful to get the drinks done quickly enough, so I think in the future it would be better to either somehow prepare the drinks before hand (mixing them together first) or having the cups pre-assembled, etc. For the signs, I think it was cute to use the chalkboard, but it was too dark to see the text, so I think a lot of people asked what the drinks were, so in the future I think having larger more visible signs would still be better. I think the decor was really cute, and I think the lighting from the DJ was a great touch so I think that was great.
Otherwise amazing job!!

Whats good social especially kyrsten and jgoat,
ReplyDeleteHoco dance was really fun! So many people showed up and a lot of my friends were satisfied and said they didn't think the dance would actually be enjoyable. For drinks, I know we valued the fancy look of the plastic flute glasses, but while buying preassembled ones might be more a hassle, they will make production of the drinks easier during the actual event. Also this may just be me, but I felt like we ran out of water (I'm probably wrong). The photo booth could have been in another area to space things out a little, and the line got in the way of the entrance to the cafeteria. The backdrop was pretty nice, though. I know the DJ didn't exactly follow the list but I feel like that's sort of expected as he does have some freedom with his job and there isn't really much we can do to restrict that. I was blown away with the success of the event, WF will be a banger.

Hi social!!!
ReplyDeleteGREAT JOB on hoco dance this year! The decorations were AMAZING and I think the Christmas trees really added to the aesthetic of the dance. I think one thing that could be improved is maybe moving the photo booth outside or somewhere that would not block the entrance to the cafeteria. I think the food was great (although some people were shocked that the brownies were salted). My favorite were the mocktails, although I could tell that making them took a lot of effort, so maybe we could shift to giving more pre-packaged drinks. As for the issue for volunteers, I think you can make sure that all volunteers set reminders on their phones for their shift times. For example, you could have everyone set an alarm for when second shift starts, this way they will know when to come. Overall, phenomenal job on hoco dance this year, and I am so excited for it next year!

ReplyDeletehoco dance was so much fun!! i loved the vibes of it and everything came together so great work to u guys. for volunteering shifts, i think having a designated person people check in with at the beginning of their shift would be good. this would help confirm who is on time and present. maybe the volunteers could check in with kirsh/salazar/wong/ whoever is supervising the area near the food tables. i also think having more volunteers near the stations that looked like they needed more help would be good. i was looking over at the drinks station and they seemed very rushed and hectic. there were two people assigned to the freebies table where i was but i honestly think one person would be able to handle it. other food stations like icecream/drinks def could have needed more help/extra hands. overall, all the volunteers were able to make it work and thank you guys for being so precise with planning and giving us clear instructions on what should be done. i cant wait for more social events in the future

Hi Social!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED LOVED LOVED the homecoming dance! It was so much fun and I enjoyed it immensely. It felt great to unwind with friends and dress up after a long time working on homecoming. I think for the future, Social could extend the time for ticket sales, maybe a week or even a week and a half would be nice. The food, especially the brownies, was DELICIOUS! Everyone seemed to love the mocktails. Personally, I really liked the ice cream, but a lot of people opted out since it was too cold, which may be something to consider in the future. I think the amount of activities at the dance was fine, especially since most people go to hoco to hang out and take photos anyway. However, there was a very longline for the photobooth, so maybe more than one photo booth would be better. Overall great event and good job social!

ReplyDeleteTHE HOCO DANCE WAS SUCH A BIG HIT AND JUST AN AMAZING EVENT!!! it was such a great way to destress after a longg hoco week, and so much freaking fun!! not only was the dance (aka mosh pit) such a blast, but the bomb food and refreshments made it so much better. i especially loved the cocktail idea because it was fun to joke around and it made us feel so..sophisticated ;)
the brownies were so delicious and the ice cream bar was a super smart idea! (although i didn't eat it because it was so cold). maybe having hot chocolate next time would be better, as it gets super windy and chilly in the night! i would have loved to get pics at the photobooth, but the line was terrifyingly long (not something we can fix unfortunately) - maybe having two different spots for taking photos would be nice? the line to enter the dance was also very long, so possible having a more efficient entrance system would allow people to get in sooner and have more time for fun! other than that, would it be possible to put more focus on decorations outside of the cafeteria (near the food area)? i absolutely loved the christmas trees because it gave such a warm feeling, but the lights were really dim so you couldn't see much.
i think cleanup when remarkably well as we finished on time and it was pretty smooth!
song recs:
- definitely more 2000s/2010 songs!! people LOVED old-timers like call me maybe and california gurls because we grew up with it and knew the lyrics!
- maybe no kpop? (at all? sorry serenity :() i think the majority of people didn't know the lyrics, and the crowd really died down when mic drop was played
- more bruno mars!!!! hes so iconic <3
thank you all so much for putting this amazing event on, and i think it will be a core memory for everyone.
love u all!

hey, social!
ReplyDeletehoco this year was AMAZING— as a senior, it was such an awesome way to round out my last hoco and i'm grateful to y'all for pulling it off.
for the food stations, i'd definitely recommend buying more bottled water, or at the very least filling an icy cooler with water from the fountains. toward the end, people were super parched and it was kind of sad to turn them down for. i'm not sure if this was already done and i just didn't see, but having a more "assembly line" system with the mocktail bar could be super helpful for you guys (pre-fill cups with syrup, cherries, etc, have drinks come out of dispenser instead of hand-pouring) so that the process is faster.
awesome job overall!

Hey Social,
ReplyDeleteHoco dance was great. From what I could tell everyone enjoyed it whether it was the dance floor itself or the other activities presented on the day. One of the main issues I noticed a lot of people had was the song choices the DJ chose for the music. I think in the future we should take the wants of the students more into consideration when it comes to the song played. As others have said, it got pretty cold in the evening so maybe having warmer foods might be better especially for the time of year. Lastly, concerning people abusing the volunteering system, I think it was a good idea to discuss it with the class since that is the best way to address to everyone that in the future we need to be more serious about not abusing the system. Overall great job!

Hi Social!!
ReplyDeleteHoco dance was so much fun and the turnout was amazing!! I feel like the line for the photo booth kind of blocked the entrance/exit into the cafeteria, and since the line was extremely long, it prevents people from going in/out through there. Maybe in the future, the photo booth can be placed in a different location. It was also already extremely crowded in the cafeteria, and the line made more people stand indoors. Also, it was really cold and windy out. Is there a way we can use the front part of the gym to distribute food? The lighting would be a lot better and it would be warmer to have our tables and food set up in the front part of the gym so people don’t freeze to death. Other than that, great job!

Hey social! Awesome job on the dance! It was amazing to see the student body come together on homecoming night after three whole years. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it to the dance but I’ve seen the pictures and was mindblown by the decs and the overall vibe. (literally sobbing when I saw the pictures). Overall I heard great comments about the dance from my friends and good job for pulling it through! Can’t wait for winter formal!! <33

Hi Social! Great job with the hoco dance! It was super hype, and very well organized. I also liked that there were areas for students not dancing to hang out and play some inflatable games. I think that in future for drinks, using normal cups should be the plan just because of the difficulty of assembling the fancy cups. Additionally, making it very very clear to the DJ to stick the song list (lol) is probably advisable. Great event!

HELLO SOCIAL!!!
ReplyDeleteI had so much fun both volunteering and chilling at the dance— it was really well planned and everyone was having a great time.
I volunteered with the food, and the main thing that was a bigger issue was with all the trash and containers. Especially with the single packs of soda and the single cups, trash accumulated quickly and it was a bit of a rush to work around. For the drinks, it would probably be easier and cleaner to have several drink dispensers with labels and line them up. Then volunteers can be making the drinks in the back at the same time.
Also the ice cream was adorable but I noticed the really really cute leaf sticks didn’t get used in the end.
Definitely agree on more photo booths, but the photos were super cute and the quality was great.
The inflatable activities were a little bit awkward in my opinion. They were fun but didn’t attract many people to stay and play. If they cost a lot, maybe consider trying something else?
The decor was super cute!! The picture opportunities were great I honestly loved everything about the decor and the decs that were up.
OVERALL it was awesome and I had a great time. Thank you for the memories hehe π
Hey Social, great job with the hoco dance, it was very fun for everyone and very well organized. I liked the decorations and spacing which gave a lot of space for dancing, room for lines, and areas to just take a breather. I think assembling became a little chaotic (for the glasses) so finding a better replacement could work. Overall, great job!

Hey Social!
ReplyDeleteAmazing job with the homecoming dance! Both volunteering for and attending the event was such a fun experience. I was working at the ice cream station, which was a bit short staffed, but all my COs came to help, which made the station move a lot faster. I think for similar events that might not get enough volunteers, it would be worth opening up volunteering to COs because some of them would love to help and they know to act responsibly as leaders of the school. As for the dance itself, it was incredibly fun, but sometimes, the songs weren't played for a wide enough audience. Instead of having song requests open the whole dance, I think 1 song request every 5 songs might solve that issue. Great job social!

hi social..
ReplyDeletehopefully its not too late to be commenting on this blogger post LMAO..
okay but anyway here are my suggestions & improvements:
1) since events like school dances are simply so large in scale, i think there could've been better crowd control overall. for instance, so many people were just cutting the line to get tickets. additionally at the dance itself better crowd control for the photobooth (ppl were just cutting there too since it was so crowded)
2) given how cold it was on the actual night of the dance, i know many students wanted warm food options, or at least ones that didn't explicitly make them colder than they already were (the ice cream)

hello social!!
ReplyDeletei think hoco dance was super fun and from what i have heard many people enjoyed it. as a worker and a "participant" i enjoyed both sides of it. from perspective of a worker i think that the crowd was quite big and a potential way to avoid it could be separating where food is, so that the crowd isn't all just in one part.... idk that might defeat the purpose but i think if it was a bit more spread out it could even out the crowd a bit better?!?! either way hoco dance was super fun and i think it was a big success... good work social!!

Hey Social!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on another banger dance. I was sadly not able to attend but I heard from my friends and saw on social media that everyone had a lot of fun. Since I wasn't there I can only really speak for the promotion done beforehand and from what I saw it was handled extremely well. Everyone was super hyped for the dance and it was no surprise that ticket sales were so high. Overall great job!

ReplyDeletethe dance was so much fun!! props to pulling off the first hoco dance in 3 years. it was so successful and i think it's clear that everyone had so much fun. i think as a volunteer, id say having more volunteers at the drinks station definitely would make our lives easier lol. also the cups were a little bit of a hassle because you needed to piece it together too. the cups itself were rlly pretty but since we were outside the cups would fly off the table and since we were so busy, we would accidentally step on them and they would shatter. overall though, amazing job and cant wait for wf.

ReplyDeletegreat job on our first hoco dance after 2 years! everybody seemed to enjoy the vibe and the food. here are a few tips for next year:
- from working food, i think the themed food items were cute but people didn't really seem to notice the extra effort. i was working ice cream and people didn't seem to notice the studio ghibli themed leaf, so though it was a cute touch, maybe it's smarter to put efforts into other parts of the dance
- the biggest complaint people seemed to have about the dance was the music choice so monitoring requests and updating the music playlist would probably solve the problem. also releasing the playlist beforehand/having people vote on songs could make the dance overall more enjoyable for everybody.
other than that, the dance was extremely successful. great. job social!

Hi Social!!
ReplyDeleteThis year's homecoming dance was a huge success! Despite not normally loving dances, I had so much fun this year, and I heard so many of my peers say similar things. As a volunteer, I think the roles could have been spilt a little bit more evenly, as I ended up moving to a different station that was struggling a bit more. Either way, it all worked out in the end, and I think future years should really use this year's hoco as a blueprint!

ReplyDeletehoco dance was so fun and adorable i think it was awesome!! i would suggest getting outdoor heaters so ppl who want a break from the dance floor can relax in the quad while not freezing their faces off LOL overall great event tysm

Hey social,
ReplyDeletegreat event! I throughly enjoyed hoco dance and it was one of the most memorable asb events i've went to this year. I thought the food was selection was fine, the decor was good but could have use another cup because the fancy drink cups were too fragile and kept shattering. overall great dance im looking forward to next year's hoco dance!

HI SOCIAL!
ReplyDeleteI really liked hoco dance and I am super proud of you guys for pulling off the first hoco dance in almost 3 years. I think you guys are already aware of some of the problems we had with the DJ so I won't touch on that. I know you guys were trying to spread things out a bit, but I think it was a little inconvenient that all the food was on the complete opposite side of the quad. Especially since it was really cold, it was a little annoying to walk across the quad to get food so maybe think about placing food somewhere closer to the gym! Anyways, I am SUPER stoked for wf!
