Winter Wellness Week + Therapy Dogs
Hey ASB!
winter wellness week took place the week before finals to help students destress before finals. therapy dogs took place the tuesday during finals week. as an overview here are the events that took place each day:
monday: stickers
tuesday: cookie decorating collab with Culinary Acts Club
wednesday: pop its
thursday: affirmation wall + squishies
friday: hot cocoa
tuesday (12/20): therapy dawgs <3
some discussion questions:
1) what is a good balance between buying well liked items and staying within our budget? specifically pop its
2) other giveaway items aside from the basic stickers/hot cocoa/etc?
3) should we spend time promoting WWW or is it a self promoting event?
4) more efficient system for dogs? we surrounded the quad with caution tape and had a distinct entrance and exit
5) should we have dogs the same week as WWW and just do one less day of giving away freebies
SHOUTOUT TO ALL OF OUR HONORARY REC MEMBERS WHO HELPED US WE LOVE YOU GUYS

hey rec!!
ReplyDeleteamazing job on winter wellness week + therapy dogs! for me, i loved the cookie decorating with culinary arts club. unfortunately, i didn't meet the dogs because im lowkey scared of them. however, i did hear that the many people loved the event. for the discussion questions, i think giving hand warmers would be a good item especially because it's pretty cold. for promotion, i still think it's good to at least do a little on instagram. however, i think the focus on it doesn't need to be that great because the event is in the quad. Because it's so noticeable, people would definitely participate. overall, great job with winter wellness week! im so excited to see more rec vids :))

HI REC!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with Winter Wellness Week! I know everyone loved the pop its and it was used a lot (i still have to use it when I do work). I do think you need to continue promoting WWW as it isn't necessarily a self-promoting event. Consider posting a story graphic for each day like spirit does for spirit days. Looking forward to CTHS!

Hi There Rec!
ReplyDeleteGood job planning and executing Winter Wellness Week. I think this is really an event that should have promo, since I feel like with so many people on the grind during finals szn I think its important that we remind people if we want large groups of people to participate. I think something like giving out protein bars or other healthy snacks might be really great since people sometimes don't eat as much as they should at that season out of stress. Overall good job with this event guys!

hi rec!
ReplyDeletei really enjoyed winter wellness week// me and my friends were literally so excited about the freebies u guys gave out every day
1) some other things u guys could've gave out include stress balls, protein/granola snacks, or fidget toys
2) i believe WWW is mostly a self promoting event, so no need for too much energy to be spent on the promo for it; it's held in a relatively known place-the quad- and people are generally interested in stuff they get for free...
great job! -maple
hi rec!
ReplyDeletewww was such a W hahaha! really really well done event and it looks like it was a lot healthier for yall not doing it on finals week! some feedback and praises:
1. pop-its were good! i think that if the lhs student body really likes something and likes another thing a little less, divert the priority to the popular item (even if its costly!)
2. keep the current items - it seems to me that theyre a happy medium :)
3. www is self-promoting, and even just graphics and posters do the job quite well (and plus, people seem thrilled to find out about it when they get a surprise day of/week of)
4. system for dogs was good! was just a little confused about where the entrance was, but thats a quick fix with a sign
5. yes, i think dogs are 100% a full-day thing
looking forward to more dogs and less stress!

hi rec!
ReplyDeletegood job on winter wellness week + therapy dogs! i think this event was really cool but definitely needed WAY more promo. i also think that it would be way better to have therapy dogs before finals because a lot of people missed the dogs due to studying or not being at school. overall, great event! I loved the pop its!

Hey Rec!
ReplyDeleteAmazing job with winter wellness week and therapy dogs. The event was so fun, relaxing, and overall had that unique cozy rec vibe that we all love. I know everyone loved the pop-its and cookie decorating especially. Someone even asked to buy a pop-it off of me for 20 dollars :). A few bits of feedback I have is that I feel like the dogs should be on the week before finals, which was the original intention, as opposed to the week before finals. A lot of people unfortunately missed the dogs if they didn’t have a first period. Secondly, increasing the threshold of stuff you have to do before you get a toy may help with not running out so fast. Finally, WWW needs a lot more promo. Being stationed in the quad was a huge boost, but there still needs to be more. Overall, great job rec and I’m excited for more!

hi rec,
ReplyDeletegreat job on winter wellness week! i always love wellness weeks and i especially loved the stickers this time around :)) i think some ideas for future wellness weeks would be bringing back the handwarmers, maybe like slips/words of affirmation that people can take with them (or maybe even fortune cookies?), this might be random but maybe even like "lucky" pencils/pens for good luck? as for promotion, i think it's still important to do promotion so that people know that it's happening, or have bigger signs so that people can see what it is from afar since things tend to get crowded around and it's hard to see. other than that, amazing job!!

HI REC!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE YOU SO MUCH great job with winter wellness week and therapy dogs. This was probably my favorite week so far. I absolutely loved every single day and I thought the items given out were super popular. The cookie decorating with culinary arts was super unique and I think the students absolutely loved it. I think the system for the dogs worked out really well. Overall, amazing job rec!

hi rec!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED winter wellness week (esp pop-its!!) - I really liked the freebies and options provided. In terms of promotion, a bit of promotion on Instagram, announcements, etc. is nice just to give the event some exposure but I don't think that it has to be heavily pushed compared to other events as not only is the event in the quad and quite noticeable, but those that would participate/are interested would probably become aware of the event after awhile whether that be by seeing the crowd or through friends. Personally, I think it'd be better to have dogs on the same week, maybe as a nice way to end off Winter wellness week? Great job rec!!

hi rec!!
ReplyDeletethanks for putting on an amazing winter wellness week. these mini events each day definitely lit up students' moods. the pop its are definitely a bonding experience. when you guys buy supplies for freebies, i recommend ordering them from aliexpress in the beginning of the year/during bootcamp. these small goodies are cheaper from that website even though they take forever to ship. this way, you can order more in bulk and save money! i actually like that therapy dogs are on a different week than winter wellness week. the dogs would be a good continuation from the wellness week. having some sort of quick hands-on activity is also great! i think the affirmation wall was pretty cool as well
thanks for helping us destress!
best,
sarah
hello rec!!
ReplyDeletegreat work on another fantastic wellness week! i honestly did not know how much these wellness weeks actually impacted students until this one and it was pretty cool to see. agreeing with many, i think having the dogs on the same week would be a lot more helpfulish? (ik it's not your fault). i also think that maybe working with more clubs for these wellness weeks can help take the some of the load off asb and help with diversity for these wellness weeks. other than that, great work rec!!
-colin
hey rec!!
ReplyDeleteunfortunately, i wasn't here for the therapy dogs (as i came after lunch for 3rd period), but here are my responses to your other questions!:
1. i think it would be better to buy cheaper items but in bulk as a lot of the time, i would come after a club and everything would be gone (especially for the popits). you could try investing in one item the most - focus your money on that and make it a really nice item - and make the others a bit cheaper? that way the first 300 students or so can get really awesome things but the others after still get something too
2. not sure if michelle obama would like this but peppermints really fit the winter theme! slap-on bracelets are also fun and fidget spinners would be beyond awesome. (again, this could be the "highlight" of the week and you could invest more money in it" i would also love love love if we could give out slime but finding small packaging may be hard :(
3. i think it's mostly a self-promoting event, but i do think that promo is still necessary. having more insta spam would be great and putting up posters around the school + letting teachers know so they can promo to their class would be better. this way, students who don't usually sit in the quad still know about the event and grab something (because i know a lot of people who saw the table but thought you had to pay for the items)
4/5. 🐶:(
overall, very relaxing and awesome week!!
love you all,
shreya
Hey Rec!!!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this entire wellness week. The pop-its along with other freebies were incredible fun and really lit up everybody's days. I specifically also enjoyed the affirmations. I wasn't there for the therapy animals but from what I heard, the line system was a great improvement from last year and definitely should be continued in future years. I think that it would be cute if you had small decorations at the tables every day just to spice it up. Other than that I really enjoyed this whole week so great job!

hi rec!!!
ReplyDeletewinter wellness week is something i think a lot of people all look forward to and you guys did an amazing job on it. to answer a few of your questions i think for www it's probably best to do some promo, but i don't think you need to worry too much about promoting it since the amount of people at the booth makes people curious and the location is easy for people to see too. i think having the dogs as one of the days for www would be better since it will help with staying within your budget, and its one less day to worry about. for freebies, i think there's really not much else to give besides stress relievers. an idea could just be like candy, but it might not be as big of a hit as pop its. i think the system for dogs was pretty good but maybe make it clear where the entrance is. overall though, amazing job !!

hi rec!
ReplyDeleteamazing job with wellness week! a lot of my friends had really good feelings about it. even through the stress of your own finals you were able to pull through for our student body which is so amazing. as far as the execution went, everything was smooth from the outside perspective. there were probably definitely issues with having to do all of this during your own finals so here are some ideas for next year to make that process smoother:
1) have simpler days. days where you just had to set out a table and display freebies for example seem like a lot less stress compared to hot cocoa or lemonade
2) prep the difficult days much in advance. lemonade is a bit difficult because you can't purchase it much in advance, but hot cocoa cups can be prepared a week or two in advance
3) self assemble stations. for hot cocoa, instead of staying and working at the table, you can keep a pitcher of hot water, powder, and marshmallows for people to self serve so all you need is one person manning the table
overall, amazing job and thank you so much rec!

Hey rec!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with wellness week! I LOVED it so much and it is one of my favorite events ever. To answer your question, I think that the event self-promotes itself. Most students know about it and are excited every semester for the event. If anything I'd say you could do perhaps a post on social media and heavily ask teachers to promote the event to freshmen as they are new and might not know about it very well.
- Seren
Hello Rec,
ReplyDeleteAmazing event btw. I heard a lot of good things from friends at the time. Okay so for advice. I’ve mentioned this before but having people coming rounds to the doggo will make it more efficient. For example, 2-minute rounds for groups of blank. I also think that having the dawgs on the same week as winter wellness is an amazing idea, however, I noticed that dawgs are just dogs. What I mean is that it might be better to have some variety. In this sense, contacting AAH as you normally do for the petting events could be a good idea. I also do not know if they allow this, but maybe branching out and asking AAH for some of their larger animals like their mules or lamas, or maybe their different bird species could be an idea. They also have turtles which are pretty cool. I think turtles are nice and cool. Turtles.

HI REC!!!!
ReplyDeletePeople Love the pop its so i think pop its are worth definitely worth it. The point of winter wellness week's purpose is to bring students joy during finals and if something like pop its does that. Some other days you can bring back is muffin day or tea and stressballs. Having dogs on the week of finals is not a good idea because people will be cramming during lunch so it will decrease the attendance. AAH probably has a lot of appointments so if possible i think the week before friday or thursday would be the optimal time. Again great job on WWW!
Hao
Hey Rec!! Here are some points addressed in the order of the discussion points:
ReplyDeleteA good balance between buying well-liked items and staying within the budget can be achieved by conducting a survey among the students to identify the most popular items, their expected quantity, and price range. For pop-its, it might be useful to consider ordering in bulk to get a lower unit cost per item. Additionally, the budget can be allocated based on the expected number of attendees for each event to ensure equal distribution.
Some giveaway items that can be considered are stress balls, face masks, pens, water bottles, or tote bags. These items can be customized with the school logo or Winter Wellness Week branding to increase awareness and promote the event.
While word-of-mouth can be effective in promoting an event, it is essential to have a strategic marketing plan to increase participation and awareness. This can include promoting the event on social media, sending email newsletters to the student body, putting up posters around campus, and collaborating with other clubs or organizations to amplify the event's reach.
To make the therapy dog event more efficient, it can be helpful to establish a sign-up system to manage the flow of students and avoid overcrowding. This can be done through an online form or through a physical sign-up sheet. Additionally, setting up multiple entrances and exits and assigning volunteers to manage the traffic flow can help streamline the process.

Hi Rec!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS EVENT. I loved the activities and LOVED THE DOGS. I think that we do still need to promote this event as it'll help people commit to engaging in the event. I also honestly think that the dogs system was not too bad. The wait was about 5 minutes and I got more than enough time with my dog. It moved relatively quickly. I liked the events throughout the week and I hope WWW can still be a W event next year.

hi reccy rec :D
ReplyDeleteI have to say– budget be damned, I love the pop-its. I brought mine everywhere and I know tons of people feel similarly. Next year, I think admin is going to consider increasing Rec's budget so buying goodies like this shouldn't be a problem in the future. Also, I totally get why the dogs were on Tuesday of finals week, but I personally was too exhausted to stay for lunch and missed the puppies. I don't know if this is something you want to change in the future, but having the dogs at the very end of finals week or at the very beginning may increase the incentive to stay and see them.

Hello rec, amazing job on this Wellness Week. I never really got the hype about pop its until I got one, and it was extremely well deserved hype. Little things like these really do help make the week better bit by bit, and I think that's great because it's accomplishing what the main goal of ASB should be. I doubt I even have to say anything about the dogs, their amazingness (is that a word) is always appreciated by all. I really don't have any major criticisms for it; just keep thinking creatively and doing what you do, and add on any new and fresh ideas that come along the way. I think the student body really appreciates it.

hey rec!
ReplyDeletegreat job on therapy dogs! i may be biased as a dog owner but dogs are my favorite animals you guys have brought this year. I especially loved how calm and friendly these dogs were, that way they didn't scare students who might want to approach but are a little nervous. I think the current system you guys had was pretty good, but what might make it more efficient is letting in concrete batches of students and then giving them a set amount of time to pet the dogs.

Hey Rec!
ReplyDeleteAmazing job with this wellness week! I know a lot of people really loved it (especially the therapy dogs and the pop-its)! I think one thing that you guys could implement in a future wellness week is a potential collab event with social, not for one during finals, but for one during the school year maybe you guys can add a movie night at the end of the week as a fun and relaxing event to end the week with! Overall amazing job!
- Kimaya
HELLO RECCCC
ReplyDeleteI love dogs i love dogs I LOVE DOGSSS this was such a great wellness week because of the dogs and also the pop-its. I think next time you guys can buy more wellness items because there is always a lot of engagement in lunch activities so a lot of people turn up for events. The layout for the dogs was super smart and effective and I would recommend having similar layouts for future animal visits. Thanks for a great week!
Best,
Esha
hi rec-
ReplyDeleteI was trying to think back on this event and was about to come to the conclusion that it was just ok when I remembered that this is where the pop its came from. I always really appreciate wellness weeks as it is such an unproblematic and chill event, but the bar for it is pretty basic. However, the choice of pop its was truly remarkable as I think that the little fidget toys will truly leave their mark on lynbrook students for generations to come. I seriously see them everywhere. I think something for future rec members to take away from this is to really cater to the people and remember the purpose of the wellness week. You are given money to make high school students happy, and there is really so much you can do with that.
hi rec!
ReplyDeletegreat job on wellness week! The dogs were a great hit and I think that people really enjoyed having dogs on campus. I think that the pop-its were a SPECTACULAR idea. People loved the pop its so much, and most importantly, I think pop-its are freebies that people take to keep, and not just take because they are free and then throw them away after. One possible thing to think about is making the cookie decorating a little less chaotic by maybe setting up an assembly line type setting instead of having a few tables with cookies and icing. This would allow for people to get through faster, as well as keep things more clean.
Great job!!!
Alex
Hey Rec!
ReplyDeleteThe pop-its were amazing!!! I think that one thing that I realized for all wellness weeks was that it was always the same people getting things. One effective way to go about this is to do only activity type things at lunch, maybe like a movie, or MITQ, or crafts, while we give let's say candy canes to every student in advisory. That way the wellness is spread to everyone instead of a lot of wellness to a group of students! I really liked the setup for the dogs this time and think that we should keep it :)
- Sophia <3
Hey rec!
ReplyDeleteI guess WWW was a ...WWW 🤣. jk that was rly corny
I really enjoyed WWW! My one constructive comment would be to not put therapy dogs on the same week as finals, because for people who have 2 finals (aka myself) on dog day, dogs are an afterthought in midst of the stress. (and another thing is if a rec member ends up having a double final, i pray for u)
I really liked how you guys did a collaboration along with CAC, and the items that were given out were actually super helpful for stress relief.
Great job!
-Jeff
